They didn't land. I want to get that straight right off. They were already here. When he first phone call was made, they could've been having burgers in the house next to you. One of them, not a family of them. There were no families. Not yet.
They were the best thing that could happen for billions of people, and the worst for about 20. What happened to these 4 men, 16 women was bad enough to throw the world into a panicked shock.
Maybe we overreacted. Maybe our reaction was unexpected. Maybe they thought we wouldn't mind losing twenty, if it would save the future of their race. Maybe we shouldn't have threatened to throw them off our planet without listening at their attempts of explanation. It does sound pretty cruel now that I think about it. Maybe they had it planned from the begining. Maybe the start was only 20. "maybe". such a little word. We'll never know, now, anyway.
It seems everyone was waiting for them to try and take over. Thats what all the aliens in movies and books have always done, right? Taken over the world and killed us all. Except they didn't kill us. I wish they had. God, I wish they had.
They started out nice. They gave us cures for every disease from the common cold to AIDS. The techniques they taught us practically erradicated hate and war. Then everything went to hell.
It was all the fault of one reporter. Again, maybe. They could've planned this from the beginning. For some reason, I hope so. One person wasn't meant to hold the guilt of the end of humanity, of everyones death.
The worst part wasn't the deaths, but you know this, 'cause you saw it on the news. The worst part came before the death. If you were unlucky and lost a friend or a family member, I'm sorry for you, and god be with them, because no one deserves to go throught that.
That reporter holds responsibilty for everything that happened. It all started with one little thing. Doesn't it always start with something small?
