"Regional" here is defined as:

• "Upstate" New York (typically used to mean anything outside of New York city)
• The Canadian border area right around Lake Ontario. Yes, this includes Toronto. :P

If traveling to Canada, always bring (or get at the border, where the conversion rates are cheapest) Canadian money, I know from experience waving American money around in Canada gets you two things: A perceptible "Oh, you're one of THEM" attitude, coupled with crappy service, especially if you wander outside of the "tourist traps" (as most of US are wont to do) and a really lousy exchange rate IN Canada compared to what you can get at the border.
