Wicca

Wicca (aka. Witchcraft) is a religion, and I would like to first point out that is is NOT evil, or a cult, or related to Satan, or anything of the like. Wicca is a nature based religion that reveres the Earth Mother and the Universe as a whole both for providing a home for us, and being as diverse and resilient (despite humanity's obsession with trying to kill everything around us). As such, Wicca is very season and geographically tied.

Wicca as such as no real limits on its followers -- unlike dogmatic religions, wiccans are free to believe whatever works for them. The philosophy here is that each person is different, and there are many paths to the same goals - and each person must choose the one that is right for them - and only by thinking for themselves and discovering themselves, can they really have some kind of spiritual atonement with the universe. Wiccans believe that there is a big 'unknowable ultimate' -- some kind of vast force that drives the universe, that humans could not possibly comprehend with our minds being so small. Therefore all our god and goddess figures (and our many spirit guides, etc) are all merely symbols that we ourselves can comprehend and atune ourselves to. So if you hear a wiccan talking about a god or goddess, remember that it is almost certainly not the same god or goddess that any other person (including another wiccan) worships, but merely that person's perception of what a god or goddess would be like.

Wicca is not evil, or a cult of any kind, or linked to Satan. These are popular myths that have been propagated for centuries by the Christian faiths. Why would they do this you ask? Well, back before Christianity was popular, Wicca was followed by most people around Europe (and other forms of it around the world). The town healers were often wiccan priests and healing by divination was common. Christianity's only hold was on the cities -- country folk tended to reject the dogmatic religions and could not make a dent into the popular wiccan followings. However although the majority of people lived in the country, they were mostly uneducated and poor. Christianity started circulating rumours of evil and encouraging that the 'evil wiccans' should be punished and quashed. With kings and nobles (and rich merchants) all living in the cities and being Christians, there was no problems raising an army for them - and the country folk were often given a choice, repent from thy heathen ways or die. Many of the original rumours circulated by Christianity (eg. that witches can fly) still survive to this day. The truth of the matter is however, that most wiccans don't even believe in Satan -- or any absolute evil or good power.
