PreZ FTP errors with uploading Apr 19, 2001

It seems people have been having trouble uploading files ending in '.htm' or '.html'. This problem has been found and fixed, and I'd like to apologise if you were receiving the 'Forbidden filename' error message. Upload at will :)

I've also noticed noone has really come to me for their old GOTH.NET home pages. Do people still want these? I've got them all back from before we went down in the beginning half of 2000.

PreZ Recent problems (update) Apr 9, 2001

You will all be pleased to know that the hardware problems that have been plaguing us this month have now been resolved. Our primary hard disk it seems was on the way out (even though it was new). We have replaced it and been able to salvage all the data that was on it. Special thanks to Striker and Lujan for being on the scene and putting in the extra time needed to get us back online and minimise data loss in the process.

We are no longer expecting any more outages, and we apologise for the level of our service over the last week or so.

PreZ Recent problems Apr 6, 2001

Well, as some of you may (or may not) have noticed, over the last few days GOTH.NET has been up and down more than a hooker in mardi gras. This has been traced to a hardware fault (right now, its suspected to be the power supply). Be aware we're working on it. The power supply has been replaced, so it SHOULD stay up now, but bare with us for a little while. We may also be upgrading the ram in the machine, so it may go down again for a short time in the near future, as yet, this is not confirmed.

We thank you for your patience ...

Lilith Webmistress Absence Apr 1, 2001

As of today, I'll be heading back to my home turf of The Netherlands for an as of yet undetermined amount of time. Whilst I'll still be checking email and working on the site from there, please bear in mind that replies to emails and submissions may be a bit slow. Updates also might not be as frequent as I'd like, but I'll try and keep the inconvenience to a minimum.

Lilith Site Status Mar 31, 2001

After several months, it's finally here... the Art section is up and running! It's been a popular area on GOTH.NET garnering a lot of hits even before we actually had content up there. It's finally been completed with the submissions we've had so far. If you have anything you'd like to submit, you can do so by emailing art@goth.net.

As for the rest of the site, aside from the Writings section, which is in the works, most of it is done and up and running. Various small things have been implemented, none of which will be noticeable in the way that new content is. Links on the Links and Community sections have been updated so there are more places for you to go and check out.

PreZ Recent Outage Feb 28, 2001

Well, as you probably noticed, GOTH.NET was totally down from Sunday 11 Jan, 2001 thru Tuesday 27th Feb, 2001. This outage was beyond our control and due to some 'internet cowboys' with more bandwidth than brains attacking the server and our ISP taking it offline as a result. The service that drew the attack has since been removed, and we are not expecting any further outages.

Once again we would like to apologise for the extended outage.

PreZ Old data recovered Jan 15, 2001

GOOD NEWS for all previously existing GOTH.NET users. The CD's (3 of them) containing ALL user informtion of GOTH.NET before it went down for its few month outage has arrived safely. For all those users who would like their old homepages back, it can be retrieved by emailing root@goth.net with your username, and the name the account was under (should be your real name). Your request may take some time to get back to you, as I am expecting a high volume of requests and I am still on a slow connection personally (and half a world away from GOTH.NET itsself, but I will try to get back to you as soon as possible.

PreZ Admin Move Jan 13, 2001

It seems GOTH.NET itself isnt the only thing moving. Since about Christmas (2000) two of the admins of GOTH.NET have been in the process of moving (namely PreZ and Lilith (the webmistress)).

Consequently processing of new account applications, and updates to the GOTH.NET website may be slower than normal. We apologise for this delay, but it should be rectified by the end of February - mid March.

For the curious, where are we moving from/to? We're coming from the gloriously temperate harbour of Sydney, Australia to the infamous state of New York, USA. Why? Employment mainly. We made it here safe and sound, and finally got ourselves a minimal net connection, but we still have to wait for the rest of our equipment to ship across the pacific.

Incidentally, anyone in the New York goth scene who can act as a guide, please contact us! we're feeling isolated here (we know where the events are, but we dont know anyone there!).

 PreZ GOTH.NET Move Dec 19, 2000

Well, we've finally moved to a high speed connection again. The move took much longer than expected due some misuderstandings. Consequently, GOTH.NET was down from about 3:00pm Friday, 15th December, 2000 until roughly 1:00pm Tuesday, 19th December, 2000 (all times are based on Sydney, AU time). We will be kicking GOTH.NET back into a high gear now, and finally get things going again for real.

 PreZ Sub-domains now accepted Dec 2, 2000

We are now accepting applications for sub-domains (ie. http://www.something.goth.net addresses) on our GOTH.NET Sub-domains page. If you have a site that contributes to the gothic community (eg. a band, a shop, a club, etc) then why not apply for a sub-domain. Email addresses are included with your sub-domain if you desire them.

PreZ Longer Accounts Allowed Nov 29, 2000

We have now increased the maximum length of account names available on GOTH.NET to previous levels. You may now apply for an account name up to 32 characters (spaces, weird characters and upper case letters will be filtered). If you previously applied for a shorter account name because of the 8 character limit, and would like to increase it now that it is possible, then please contact root@goth.net with your request (including previous and new account names).

 PreZ Resurrection of GOTH.NET Nov 22, 2000

GOTH.NET is finally back online after a hiatus of several months.
Email and webspace account submissions are now being accepted again.

Previous users: Email and webdata stored on the GOTH.NET server up till the day it died will be made availible as soon as we get our hands on the cd of the old harddisk. In the meantime, if you re-apply for webspace and/or an email address, please let us know you were a pre-existing user.
