Upon turning on the radio one day I heard a cure song. It was Love song off their desintegration album, but wait that's not Robert Smith singing. After the cure dropped off the face of the earth in the mid 90's I was surprised to hear them on the radio again because their origional songs are being played too. After talking to some people I learned the band was called 3-11 and I believe they have also done covers of lullaby and fridays i'm in love. Their versions make we want to puke. Does anyone here know what I'm talking about?

I guess you must be really upset by Cradle of Filth's cover of "No time to cry". It is annoying when a band takes a good song and makes a really shitty cover, but it's not that big of a deal to me.I havn't head the 3-11 songs but I can imagine X)

Actually, I don't think the 3-11 version is all that bad. Mainly because they basically made a carbon copy of the original and added the occasional steel drum to it. Not very original, but at least they didn't butcher it.
I do, however, absolutely LOVE the version Snake River Conspiracy did. They actually made the song fairly unrecognizable, but in a good way. It's very grindy and the lead vocalist id a grrl so it adds a really sexy twist to it.
Really, if you're going to do a cover, at least change something. A carbon copy shouldn't garner any airplay.

Have you heard their version of "sleepless" (origionally by Anathema)?
I found they compleatly destroyed that song, especially when Dani kept making high pitched screeches where in the origional song there was deep growls.

Wait...sleepless is a cover? its the only CoF song I like! I'll have to get the original...
as for the 311 covers, I actually like em a little more than the originals, seeing as I'm really not a big fan of the cure......and I like 311....

1. Just because you like a certain band and you think a cover doesn't match up to the original doesn't mean you have to diss it and the band. It's another artist's interpretation of a song, saying it sucks is pointless, it's like saying someone's opinion is wrong.
2. Um, CoF isn't exactly my favorite band, but could we all maybe stfu with the trashing them in every post? It's getting annoying...CoF sucks this, CoF sucks that, did you hear CoF do this song, etc. is getting old. Wow, they inspire a load of posers, can we get on with our lives?
(I do like their D&D album, they know what they're doing with pound style black metal...)
As for the cover, I'll try it out. I might agree that I don't like it like the original, but come on, let's give artists a break here and there.....

This may come as a surprise to you but I don't hate CoF I actually like some of their songs like "her ghost in the fog" "Lord Abortion" "Torture soul Asylum" and "Amor E Morte" to name a few. I don't know about others here but personally I have nothing against them but I was giving my opinion that I really didn't like the job they did on those three covers.I'm not one of those CoF and Manson haters if that has crossed you mind while reading my previous posts.

Admittedly I don't really care for their new rock-type stuff, much, but their doom metal material is classic. /div wrote: Um, CoF isn't exactly my favorite band, but could we all maybe stfu with the trashing them in every post? It isn't about their fanbase, though, I think. They play lame recycled Maiden worship with horrid, effects-drenched vocals, annoyingly played keys way too high in the mix, and boring drumming. That and they're assholes to their fans, too, I've been told. /div wrote: (I do like their D&D album, they know what they're doing with pound style black metal...)
Ye're welcome to like whatever you like.. but they are NOT NOT NOT black metal. (:

I think they are one of those bands that can't really be classified, so maby we should leave it at that. Anyway I don't want this to trn into a "Why CoF sucks" or whatever type thread and and up closed so I think we should end the discussion on them, enough has been said anyway.

/div wrote: I think they are one of those bands that can't really be classified, so maby we should leave it at that. They're completely classifiable; generic heavy metal with harsh vocals. /div wrote: Anyway I don't want this to trn into a "Why CoF sucks" or whatever type thread and and up closed so I think we should end the discussion on them, enough has been said anyway.
If ye hadn't noticed, there was no "bashing" of the band until after people showed up to "defend" them.
But fair enough.

Dani Filth is no a-hole.....I've met him, he's a normal guy dude. He talks about how greasy American fast food is just like everyone else. He gets wild in concert, but other than that.....
CoF is like a more Dimmu clone in a way. If they'd stayed semi-underground like Dimmu, we'd all be saying otherwise.....
And yes, they are strictly classified as black metal, unless you want to get into the "you have to stay underground" BS. They ARE popular, but that has no effect on how you should classify a style of music or a band....although CoB and co. will always be better.
Whoever said there wasn't bashing and blah blah blah- yeah there was, how the hell else was CoF brought up?
Back to covers.....
I'm getting into some bands that play covers better than the original artists....that happen to anyone else? You think that the cover band wrote the song, then find out it was really someone else's, listen to the original, then find that it sucks.

I actually don't have a problem with the 311 version of love song. Same with the Jack off Jill cover of it too. I actually like the Jack off Jill version better.

Damn straight, spider. Snake River Conspiracy kicks all manner of ass coving that song. In fact, that cover is what inspired me to buy their album.
Oh, and you are quite right: a cover should do something original with the source material, or else why bother? Otherwise, you wind up with that pussy-fied version of "Behind Blue Eyes" by Limp Bizkit.
Then again, expecting Limp Bizkit to produce something even marginally entertaining is like expecting Pauly Shore to make an Academy Award-winning film.
