What is the most basic and appropriate for guys and their make-up? Tips would be great.

My ex's most basic make up look was white foundation

My boyfriend usually uses foundation to even tone and create hollowed chek bones (much like what one would do with theatre make up), then uses a very simple eyeliner.

I use a basic eyeliner. Though currently experimenting with other styles then "just around the eyes"
Havent had the chance to buy white powder yet, though those I've seen with it, looked great. Just dont over-do it, you'll end up looking like an antique.

I use black eye shadow and black eyeliner, I used to also put red on the tops of my eyelids but lost the eyeliner, I can't find any black lipstick around here but i'm ordering some in about 2 weeks along with some other stuff.
with my eyes, I do one of a couple things:
1. eqypt style, just basic line accross the side of my eyelid about 1" long
2. Sorrow line, a long curved line under each eye reaching down to about my cheek (fairly thick on both sides of face)
EDIT - Also as far as buying it, I suggest going for the more expensive mechanical pencil eyeliner, that is both water proof and easy to get on, but if your jsut trying it, buy the cheep stuff after that you definatly want to buy the good stuff thats easy to get on because sometimes if the eyeliner isnt soft enough it can hurt trying to apply it to sensitive areas like the the area just underneath your eye
3. Tear drop under one eye
4. Cry lines, wavy lines (3-4) under each eye all of different lengths (going big to small from left to right, or from the middle getting smaller and smaller etc)
Best thing, just experament, and if you haven't worn it to school before, be prepared for some comments, even from non-goth freinds, it may take people some time to get used to it, just try not to get mad at there close mindedness, and you don't want to be at a club and have to go into the wash room to fix runny eyeliner only to find out your eyeliner isnt with you and have to wash most of it off for it to look decent

Sometimes just a touch of eyeliner and shadow is enough, à la Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean. Just enough to look very exotic, not that much that it starts to look over the top or clownish.

My worthy ladylove forgot to add the prefix " when onstage" to that description. Normally, I either go au naturel or daub on a bit of eyeliner.
Actually, I think that well-applied eyeliner can be a guy's best friend, goth or not. When used with subtlety and skill, it can really dramatize the entire face.

I second Lilith's thought that a little bit of liner and shadow is perfect; it's all my boyfriend uses.
Anything more is a big no-no in my book. Most people in general can't pull off wearing tons of makeup, and it just looks all the worse on men.

Definitely black eyeliner and eyeshadow, though, some men can pull off lipstick too. I suppose I fall into that category.. hrmm...

i just use a little eyeliner under teh eye with no elaborate designs. being chinese and having a little darker skin tone, white powder would probably not work too well as i'd have to do teh rest of my exposed skin...

I think guys look incredibly good in some eyeliner and white foundation. And maybe some dark red lipstick.

Heh. My bad. I also forgot to mention that as with all makeup, having it be situation appropriate is key. Going to work with squiggly crap on your face is silly.
Doing full makeup for a club, however is not.

As far as makeup goes, I just do eyeliner. Since I have to work outdoors after school, my face and arms are pretty damned tan. I like the eyeliner because I think it brings attention to my eyes, which I've gotten many a compliment on. Though lately, I havn't been able to bother myself with putting it on, since I have to reapply it every few hours because it seems to disappear. Guess that's what I get for using some cheap crap one of my brother's friends leaves at my house.
I want some dark purple eyeliner, though.
