 Is this ad biased?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHfsQ64z ... re=relatedI was watching TV with my sister, and she said this ad is kind of racist, how it's only white kids, and how they say, 'sometimes I just like white' and shout 'vanilla!' I'm not sure myself;what do you guys think? It might have been nice if there were other races portrayed, but it might not have been a deliberate bias. Still, their lines make me wonder...

But there's also this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYmI_6MSxgw&feature=relatedSeems to address the issue somewhat.

 Re: Is this ad biased?
I don't know, I think they could have benefited from choosing kids for that commercial that came from different races, just to widen the diversity.
As of the children saying "Vanilla"..i honestly don't find that very surprising...I suppose because my child like vanilla the best opposed to any other flavor at the moment...
So, I guess while I don find it racist, per say, I can see how some might see it as at least mildly offensive or discriminating.

 Re: Is this ad biased?
it wasn't the best choice. But it doesn't seem rascist at all.

I really hate it when people proclaim that they eat ice cream with a fork.

 Re: Is this ad biased?
Liking Vanilla isn't recist O.o is it racist that my favourite flavour jelly babies are the red and black ones? Or that my favourite pop tarts are chocolate? Of course not! Its a flavour! Sorry, but I think this is just a case of political-correctness gone a bit silly, yet again.

 Re: Is this ad biased?
All ads are biased (they are intended to sell something), but this ad is not deliberately racist, I believe. Kids do sometimes refer to colours instead of flavours (esp. if they still have difficulty pronouncing words like 'vanilla' or 'strawberry'), and the kid who was shouting for vanilla is just exited about the ice cream in the way children sometimes are. Don't try to see something in it that isn't there. An ice-cream company pushing racial believes via a commercial where kids talk about their favouritve ice-cream seems a bit complicated and unrealistic. True, it might have been smarter to include kids of other races to be above all suspicion. But I find it really sad that you have to think like that these days.

I think people viewing ads (not this one specifically, but just in general) put far more thought into it than the people that make them. If in ad is racist or sexist they do it blatantly, they're not subtle, and they do it intentionally because the controversy is worth way more publicity.

Ignore them all, ignore the bright packaging, don't read the copy, don't believe them. You are a psychologically profiled target, not a "valued customer".

I really hope that was an attempt at dry humour, but because you didn't elaborate, I will assume so lol. Blackcurrent and strawberry flavoured Jelly Babies just taste better to me (although I am partial to a nice apple one, but I suppose that makes me racist, or rather species-ist against Martian infants ) But yeah, I agree otherwise, people are seeing things that just aren't there.

 Re: Is this ad biased?
I don't find it to be racist. Sure, as someone stated earlier, it could have benefited from a display of diversity. Indeed, in THIS day and age, it is a bit weird that it lacked that. However, no, I don't find it racist or biased.
