I have noticed many occasions where a thread is thriving and lots of intelligent discussion is taking place, but then some dim-wit comes along and hijacks the thread by posting a dim-witted comment, then one of the mod comes to close the whole thread thus putting the discussion to an end for all involved just because of that single dim-witted comment.
I was just wondering if the currect policy could be revised so that the hijacker is punished instead of the passengers, something like a '3 stupid comments and yer' out' type of rule where the law abaiding posters can just carry on their discussion and ignore the dim-witted comment.

It'll be taken into consideration.
I'm thinking that really inane comments can get deleted by mods in order to preserve a thread...

I'd be cautious about instututing comment deletion if its some inanity. I say keep it up for all to see in a thread.
As for stupid whole posts made, the kind that are immediately deleted because the poster was too stupid to RTFMB, I would be in favour of deleting stupid threads one week after closing.
Also, mr anonymous..... The reason why a lot of fruitful discussions end up with close tags on them is partially because newbies drag up old fruitful discussions, then tack on their useless inanities. That might be why you find a good thread that went bad every so often.

Well, not some silliness... I think we get a bit of that everywhere... but some people just want to railroad a thread, and either we tell people to get back on track, delete the offending posts (depending on what it is of course) or lock the thread... in some cases topics can be revived from the edge of the abyss of idiocy rather than just locked.

I know what some people did on this one other message board I went to once was if someone posted something stupid, the moderator would delete what was inside the post and put: **Post deleted/modified by.... and then put the name of the moderator say Lilith or Blood Rose. That might save topics but I'm not sure. Just an idea.

I'm sorry, but I find it highly amusing how fast I figured out what that acronym means. I'm usually terrible with the things...
I say we just smack em' one, start living up to our reputation as Nazis. ;P

Yeah, but just the fact that they were nazis totally ruins it...nazis are evil. They pushed people around and told them what to do and were cruel and prejudiced. Especially Hitler...what an idiot.

Just like most employers.

I wish there was a way to protest that. Especially that whole dresscode crap. Seriously, its bad enough one has to work at least let them be themselves whilst they are doing it. I wonder if there is a way to fight that system.
Just some random thoughts...

I agree that mods close things way too easily... and they are often very hostile doing it, I'm not mad that you closed my thread, but in alot of the closed threads the last mod comment isn't what I would call respectfull. Too many Manson goths have come here and the mods have totaly lost it (no pun intended) and are now attacking everyone?

Christ you whine a lot.
But seriously though, is there perhaps a way to change the board's code so that you can ban a specific member from the topic? That way the conversation may continue but the offending party has no choice but to stfu.

You're talking to the wrong person.
That's one to aim at the makers of the board code, over at ikonboard, not us.
And fyi, telling someone they whine a lot is not very useful, is it?
