Apologies, no offence intended.

I read a rather interesting article in The Guardian today about Big Brother and "reality TV shows". Apparently two novelists who both wrote about ludicrous reality TV shows in their books have been approached by TV execs wanting to license not the books, but the sadistic gameshows described within them.
How long before we see "Who wants to win a heart transplant?" on national TV?

Wasn't he just? I love the man's deadpan dry humour. He was so critical of everything and anything. Odds on he wasn't Goth because it wasn't depressive and cynical enough for him.

i made a mistake. I didn't put this into a new topic. I'm sorry.
PLEASE! Please please, I'm getting desperate. I've been trying to, trying, like really trying, to get into contact with London Goths, or not even London Goths, those close enough to London to know how it is in London, please please help me. I'm a student from the Philippines doing a thesis paper on Goth. My thesis mate and I have done a sort of overview of Goth like the fashion, music, literature, etc. Now, we're tyring to interview the individual Goths themselves. Like why they turned Goth and how they learned about Goth. No age specifications. The London thing is just to delimit the study. London, Manila and LA. The London's proving really really hard to do. Please anyone who thinks they have Goth experiences to share, please email me at d_faery@hotmail.com. Or this here, works too. You can email me whichever way you want, just email me, make sure it gets to me. Thanks. I have MSN too if you want to contact me there. Thanks Thanks. I just really need eight more people. I'm just writing this because Goth sort of fascinates me. I'm not a Poser, whatever. I'm just trying to finish a paper on something that interested me and maybe circulate it locally.

Wondering if anyone could help me with a request, mainly those second and third gen survivors. Could someone please explain to me exactly what the Punk Wars were? I'm attempting to knock up a pseudo-Scathe ( http://www.scathe.demon.co.uk/histgoth.htm) history of my own, but no matter how much searching I do, I can't seem to find anything describing what the Wars were. I'm guessing it was the period 1980-83 when the Goth subculture began to declare its independance from Punk, but past that I'm uncertain. So, if anybody could help...?

Punk Wars - That's going back some.
I can't remember much about the rift between Punks and Goths at that time as I was probably not in the right place.
In the area where I lived at the time (Lothian, Scotland) there was a big thing with Punks and Mods. (There was only a handful of Goths then). You were either one or the other, and there was loads of bickering going on. I was kind of caught in the middle and thankful I was only about 10 or 11 at the time.
Araknyd, have you heard of the books:
Streetstyle and Stylesurfing by Ted Polhemus.
There's an interesting flowchart at the end of StreetStyle showing the "family tree" of all the major genres of street fashion. Dunno if that might help give you some leads.

You could try asking Mick Mercer, he's a journalist/writer and has written a number of books about the Goth scene, and he's british, so he might have some answers for you.

Goths declared their freedom from the punk scene at or around 1979/1980. Hell i now feel old.......~sighs~
Um btw what's the facination with us brits anyway? Are we not talking enough?
There should be some sort of goth map like Netgoth if possible. Well im from sunny crappy Telford in Shropshire if that helps. :I

I'm attempting to order Mercer's latest book, but I'm having trouble with Amazon. Still, I'll check that out...cheers Lil. Aelf, I've not heard of that book, but any new leads are appreciated. Thanks!
Poor Vamp, I know whatcha mean. I live in a hell-hole 'Seaside Resort Town'. :O The thing is, goth.net couldn't possibly dedicate sections to each country, otherwise it'd get A - Too Many or B - Not Enough and always C - Accused of favouring certain countries.
Still, at least us Brits have our own thread now.
Cheers to all!

Oh, I've got the 'Gothic Rock Black Book' by Mick Mercer. I forgot I had that one. Araknyd, if you're still having probs getting his stuff, let me know and I'll read through it again!

He released a new one back in May.
All of his other books are out of print.

Hey Immortal. 'Fraid the thread's been pretty quiet, as there doesn't seem to be much on to discuss. So, umm, feel free to throw us a prompt! </plead>
 Welcome back!

Thanks, Araknyd!
You can be my personal thread checker if my computer blows up again. *)
Just a small thing to get the thread goin again. what would be your dream home? an Adam's Family style home? or my personal fave a remote island somewhere, mainly a cold, harsh unforgiving scottish island (Like Taransay). Or either a undescoverd tropical island where man hasnt touched. There i can rule the small jungle! wth my ability to communicate to animals! (Oh, did i really put that in?)
What would it be?
P.S ignore the 'jungle ruling bit'
