When I am bored with my straight hair, I put pipe cleaners in my hair over night (about 30, in damp hair). It takes a while to wrap and twist the hair up and also take it down. But the result is a rather impressive afro-style do. It will take your hair up about 2-3 inches so you need longish hair. I normally spray it with loads of hair glitter and go and scare the neighbours. :b

I despair of things to do with my hair. It is waist length, wavy, very thick, and has a tendancy to swallow hairgrips whole. joy :p

There's LOADS of stuff you can do with your hair.
You can try curling it, you can french braid it, you can put it half up, half down... pigtails, buns, weird combinations of braids/waves/curls/straight...
My suggestions do, of course, assume you know how to braid your own hair ^^;;;;;;;;;;;

I really must see a picture of this. It sounds quite amusing. Haha.
Once in a while now I have taking to curling my hair with my mothers curling iron. It takes me about 30 minutes since I have so much hair but it is really nice looking and pretty.

ok, since there is a hair topic open right now i'm going to steal the spotlight in this one! hahahaha.
um, yeah. my hair is about 2 inches (too long to spike [or gel] and too short to start working on a part) in that phase where i could quite easily do that trendy messy look. i tried using pomade in it today and the look was okay, but my hair feels kinda...nasty, and dirty. i don't like it like that. and as far as i know that leaves me with two choices. (a) slick it back like a greaser or maffia guy or (b) do nothing to it, in which case it becomes a really puffy afro thing. neither of those two options appeal to me. so what should i do? any suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestions girls. Shai'tan, I say you slick your hair back, or just leave the hair like it is and just add gel. If anyone has other suggestions for me,keep on posting.

I'm addicted to french twists--they look pretty polished if all the hair's tucked in, or they can look trendier clipped up with the ends sticking out (my hair's really straight, so it always looks spikey when I do this).
As of late I've also noticed a lot of people with Dorothy-style double french braids (Wizard of Oz) that look really cute, too.

I had this dilemma....... so i got dreadlocks.
Not a solution for everyone, i know (being somewhat more....permanent than an average hairstyle)
But a suggestion if you are really bored with your hair, maybe temporary dreadlocks?

2 inches is not too long to spike, my hair stands 9 inches tall and makes me look like a cross between sonic the hedgehog and a stegosaurus but it stays up.
take some good quality soap and rub it into wet hair until you get a lather then comb it through the hair and soap again until hair goes stiff. then spike it.

You can try getting ahold of a less greasy pomade. They're going to be more expensive, but you can find them in a beauty supply, such as at the mall or try the local pharmacy. Or at the very least, don't use so much of it. "A little dab'll do ya," as they say.

You can spike your hair easy if it's 2 inches. Use some spiking gel and it'll look good.

I just straighten mine since I have a nasty fro-type thing going on. I'm also very impatient with my hair (it doesn't like chemicals) so, I can't do a whole lot with it. I like that pipe cleaner idea, though... I may try that...
I always thought it was cute to have a bunch of little braids in pigtails. It takes a whole lot of time to do (my friend and I did that to my hair last Halloween) and takes a lot of gel to keep the loose strands at bay, but it's horribly adorable. Depending on how far your hair is past your shoulders and how thick it is, it should take about an hour. It took me about 45 minutes and mine is fairly thick and 2 inches below my shoulders.

Oh, I've had the exact same problem, since my hair is shoulder-length and straight and boring. I was just about to cut it all off at one point...and still am....grrr....
One thing that I have really liked is using a crimper (I don't know where you could get one, since I got mine from the family cabinet) and creating streaks of crimps all around my hair, so it's a mixture of crimped hair and straight hair. I don't suggest doing your entire head, because after awhile the crimps will come out and your hair will look limp. Also, and it would take forever.
Mmm...yep.
