What do you think of death metal? I will say that I like some of it(along with goth synth and other forms like that)

I said "good stuff" 'cause I like it. It's not one of my favorite genres, but I like it. It has some good stuff.

I would say good stuff, but I only like death metal like Children of Bodem or Dimmu Borgir's "best" CD not what they make nowadays. Because these 2 bands use alot of cool stirring(if thats the right word) keyboard and guitar riffs so that the music becomes symphonic and very powerfull. Also the k/covenant has these little things, thats why I am a huge fan of them.
But I really dislike bands like meshuga (if I spelled it right) and most songs of the Cradle songs are for me to monotonous.

I thought that Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir were black metal, not death metal
Lilith - who's been searching out black metal bands for a friend and Dimmu and Cradle were 2 of them.

Indeed.
As far as I understood, the differences between Black metal and Death metal are their lyrics, mostly.
Blackmetal is often aimed towards the religious parts of society, mainly christianity. Bands like Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth are indeed black metal, as their lyrics are full of references that fit within Gothic Satanism.
The death metal bands on the other hand are more aimed towards the downsides of society: Cannibal Corpse, Akercocke (contains Black bits though), Deicide, Morbid Angel, Napalm Death, Death, Vader, Entomed, Hypocrisy.

I was the lone 'worsdt genre ever' voter. Death metal sucks, or is misidentified. I'm not thinking black metal here... death metal is crap bands like Cannibal Corpse.
Just what I want to hear... Cookie Monster doing a death growl over shitty double pedalled drums and guitars tuned into fucking B flat. I think it's annoying tripe.
Actually... make that talentless annoying tripe.

Ohh sorry for that one.Z) But there are so many sub metal genres. Hmm lets see what do we got? Death, Heavy, Black, Doom, Speed, Trash, Space, Fantasy, Gothic uhm and I am sure that I missed a few.
But indeed, I think cannibal corps sucks big time. But thats just me.

Also, the difference between black metal and death metal is this. Black metal has more of a high pitched gut wrenching scream, while death metal has more of a growl.

I was the lone 'Totally Awesome' voter, hmmmm ???
As a musician who has played and written a lot of Death, Grindcore, Sludge and Thrash, I've just gotta interject and say that you're talking out of your arse. I don't mind valid opinions ('Death Metal is shit'. That's fine with me, don't listen to it. Problem solved, man), but to tack on the little jibe that musicians playing within the genre are 'talentless', for that is what you have effectively stated, is a very incorrect assessment. If I hadn't heard this kind of thing before, I would feel indirectly insulted myself.
The guys I've worked with in various metal-orientated bands over the years ('Naysayer' - jazz/death fusion, 'Curmudgeon' - full balls-out grind/sludge, 'Hate Bucket' - hard/metalcore screamers, 'Churchate' - anti-Christian Death Metal, and 'Loathe' - fastest thrash band I've ever heard) have been some of the most incredible musicians I've ever had the good fortune to communicate with, both in and out of the rehearsal space. As a bassist working around the Melbourne circuit, I am considered first-call and somewhat prodigal; when held up next to some of these monster shredders/skinsmen/vocalists/low-enders, I had to take a step back and reasses my position as a bass player, and as a musician overall.
To call any of them 'talentless' is not an opinion, it is ignorance.
No other genres of music are as physically demanding as Death Metal and all of it's sub-genres, and it is usually non-musicians who fail to make sense of the music itself. Perhaps it doesn't speak to you in any way, or you just don't have the patience, understanding or desire to listen to and digest something that isn't so obvious as every fucking 4/4 corporate rock 'song' playing round the clock on radio. That's fine, musical maturity might not be one of your priorities - but the misguided throwaway lines really piss me off.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I like my music to challenge my ears, mind, body and soul. I like it to challenge me, because I live for it - although I play a lot of different styles these days (financial dictation), I would not be as 'together' as I am today without my experiences with Death Metal. Taking the stage for 2 breakless hours at a time, 32nd note passages at 180 bpm in modulating key signatures every 5 bars flying from my hands, to my bass, to the people, broken bones, blood, base hatred of oneself and every poison that ever worked itself into you ever laid before 500 people to see and hear ... don't ever tell me that what I have done and what has helped shaped me as a unique person among unique people is 'talentless'.

"Death Metal is shit" is a valid opinion to you, but having someone say it's talentless isn't?
You do also realise that they're asking about opinions on death metal on a gothic board, so expect a majority to not enjoy death metal. And also expect people to not measure death metal by the same standards that you do.
Because I can't say I've listened to much metal I can't really comment here, but I generally actively avoid the genre... stuff like speed and thrash to me *is* talentless as it's just a bunch of earsquealing noise. Just because it might take a lot of effort to sound that way doesn't necessarily mean, to me, that there's talent involved.

I can't say I enjoy the heavy metal genre as a hold at all(well, except for progressive metal). The whole concept of loud guitars, big bass, and lyrics that no sane person would understand does not appeal to me at all. One of my friends(a thrasher AND theatrical satanist) made me listen to Slipknot and Cannibal Corpse. Let's just say that afterwards,I had a migrane, and me trying to think about something happy and lovely... Never will I listen to that crap again(but you still have a place in my heart,Tool). #(

An opinion which equates 'Death Metal' with 'shit' is fine with me; basically the person is only saying that they don't care to listen to it. Whatever inflates your dinghy, that doesn't bother me at all.
But to insult it in such unfounded terms twigs a nerve with me - if you know what you're talking about, and you can back up your commentary in an intelligent fashion which stipulates exactly why you think it is talentless (since we're talking musically, obviously a certain degree of instrumental and theoretical experience is necessary), then I might not be so offended. More extreme forms of metal are on par with jazz and classical in terms of technical proficiency, rhythmic development and the complexity of the arrangements. To be able to understand and appreciate the apparent 'noise' is a sign of a cultured and mature ear, this much has become obvious to me as I have evolved musically.
As a side note, many people are turned off of the genre by the form the vocals take. 'Boohoo! The words are stupid and I can't hear them properly!' or in rose's case, 'This dude sounds like the Cookie Monster!'. This misses the point of their implementation completely. Death Metal was conceived as a completely 'anti-pop' and seperatist genre. As a way of flipping the bird at popular music, the vocals were integrated as more of a rhythmic tool than as the primary source of melody; they're not supposed to be decipherable, let alone catchy. Pick up any Death Metal CD and check out the liner notes - it will usually give credit to the 'singer' under the heading of 'vocal patterns'.

i, despite my age, and accompanying infirmities.*hobbles around painfully for a few minutes before sitting down to type* love metal....of all kinds.
I like the sound of the roaring vocals.. they vibrate to my very being..I like the furious drum beat.. brings me out of myself and makes me want to spin around until i drop.
As for the lyrics..if i want lyrics i listen to something else.
Simply put, metal is music for the whole body, not just the ear..if you cant feel your bones vibrating then it isnt metal..
and as for being unable to understand the words? I thought that was only old people who said that? my mother never could listen to my music..(The rolling stones and the beatles at the time) because she said she couldnt understand the lyrics..

I voted "awesome!". I dig just about all Death Metal, from technical/progressive to gore grind. It's all so dark and incredibly heavy. It's not something I want to listen to all the time, but when I'm in the mood I can't get enough. Death, Obituary, Six Feet Under, Immolation, and CBT (hehe) are some of my favorites.
