This thread has amused me to no end so I thought I should reply. Some of the things I have read on here have made me smile quite a bit.
First off I cannot dance. I have no coordination. Plus if I do the conventional slow dancing with guys I think I try to lead. As I am not old enough to go to a real club. So the one for teens that I go to once a month is obviously not Goth. But i feel like elaborating anyway because liek lots of us here I totally feel like people stare at me. Oh yea...they do. I don't even dance weird just the fact that I cannot dance. Once I get moving and I start trying to shake my booty I get over it. I do dance around in my room sometimes. I was working on a simple basic move this girl at the club taught me on my bed in my undies and my mom walked in and said something and I screamed bloody murder. But anyway. Devin the girl trying to help just told me to do what feels right and natural. I guess once I get down the basic movements and coordination I will be all set.

One foot, then the other, then hop on one foot three or four times, then the other foot...I probably look like a total retard when I do it, but it's too much fun.
This sounds like a modified pogo. I like to pogo every once and again. Not a good skanker, though.

I also like to dance alone in my room with the speakers blaring ("I'm a maniac, maniac..."). It provides me much needed stress relief.
I love to watch people dance...I find it hypnotic and relaxing. Funny, many times I recognize people by their distinctive movements rather than their faces or clothing.
Des, I have a friend who isn't the world's greatest dancer that received many a stares not because she looked silly, but because her confidence made her hot.

I don't really think it matters whether or not you can dance well. If you have fun doing it, and you're confident, that's all you need

What kind of hot? Sweaty Hot or Sexy/Cute Hot. *curious*

Des, for some reason, I am picturing you dancing around like Elaine from Seinfeld.

Yes! With the thumbs!
I've never been to a goth club, and if I did I suspect I'd get my ass kicked. My dancing style is affectionately titled "Sex on the Dancefloor." Which I'm sure comes as no surprise to anyone! And I love to slowdance. The only bad thing is when I don't have a girl to dance with I don't know what to do with myself.
I'm very coordinated though. I took a social dance class in college and kicked ass at it. Which was like waltz, fox trot, swing, etc. Swing dancing is so much fun except I'm not all that good at it beyond the basics. Really is a great workout too.
So usually the local watering holes here have some rock band playing. When that happens my dancing ends up something like "bounce with the beat and throw the devil horns up while swaying head around and singing along." All the while looking for a girl to grind all up on. :p
But it's all in good fun. Usually I just dance around with my friends. I don't have the balls to ask random people to dance.

Well sex without a partner is called "masturbation" (and is apparently good for your prostate ) However, I suspect that "Masturbation on the Dancefloor" will get you thrown out of a lot of clubs.
After all, if you make the floor slippery then the madly bouncy dancers may fall and hurt themselves.
Doth, who just couldn't leave a line like that sitting there

HAHA! That is probably true. Elaine is hilarious. *Does the Thumbs Up Dance* That is indeed a very classy dance.

I like that spastic kick and head toss dance she does. I've never seen anyone (without a handicap) that horribly uncoordinated before.

People dance differently in different cities. I am originally from the San Francisco Bay Area and I dance differently here in DC than a lot of people. I move my hips around a lot and kind of slowly skip around all over the place. It depends on the song. I always have an audience when I dance because I am one of the only people around here that dances to all of the old songs.

I feel bad now, I am worse than des, no one has tried to teach me. Which really annoys me since my friend gets wierd looks compared to most guys he dances like a woman. (Using his whole body not just flailing around and jumping)

My dancing is restricted to my room by myself with the volume full up. It consists either of me hopping up and down while bobing my head or doing the Beavis and Butthead dance of pumping my arms bopping my head while kicking things on my floor.
At clubs I usually just sit and chat with a friend while watching the chicas dance. The only dance I do in public would be the waltz and it's been a while since I've done that.
