Hmm... I fed my Tim Burton addiction tonight by watching THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS again. That movie is so wonderful. I played the VINCENT short that's featured on the dvd before the movie, it's so funny... very *hand*staple*forehead*. The other short on the dvd, FRANKENWEENIE, is also quite excellent.
For those of you unfamiliar with TNBC (what rock have you been under??) it's a wonderful stop-animation movie produced by Tim Burton based on his drawings and I believe some poems. The story is about the king of Halloween wanting to run Christmas because he needs a change from the Halloween routine. Things go amiss but are righted at the end and a cute relationship burgeons to top it off. Absolutely gorgeous animation and excellent music by Danny Elfman.
And then to top it off I played THE TIME WARP and SWEET TRANSVESTITE off the Rocky Horror dvd... those songs are very amusing. Tim Curry is *so* excellent in the role of Frank-N-Furter. Very camp movie, but hysterically funny.

Yeah!
NBC is a really good movie.
Also one of those movies that everybody told me to watch but I did (by many reasons) not see...
I watched it last weekend with one of my closest girlfriends (not MY girlfriend though)...
I was suprised since I had no real hopes before watching this movie. But it contained a whole load of humour and was indeed a pretty gothique movie...
The whole movie is like a musical, there is a little talk, then there is a song, a little talk, then song...
Since Lilith before seconded my advice for you all to watch Sleepy Hollow I hereby second her tip for this movie...
The Nightmare Before Cristmas - Don't forget that!

If Tim Burton's involved the chances are it's pretty damn gothy.
Beetlejuice, Sleepy Hollow, Edward Scissorhands, Nightmare Before Christmas, Batman 2 (I think he did the first one as well, they definitely had gothy visuals, even if it is a comic/franchise movie)...

Aw!
*Thinks his head into the wall*
I did not know he had done all those great movies...
Sciccorhands is yet another one waiting to be seen by me. I have allways disregarded it as a child-disney-type movie. But I mean, hey, I did that to NBC too and it was a pretty friggin' good movie so...
Maybe I shall go to my local videostore and buy all the Tim Burton stuff I can find...
=)

Vincent is quite amusing, another stop animation film, about a 7 year old boy (called Vincent) who wants to be Vincent Price. Keeps switching between reality, and the demented world inside his head.
The best part about it is, its actually narrated by Vincent Price

Don't judge a book by it's cover etc.
Some Burton movies I'd rent before considering buying them. Things like MARS ATTACKS! (campy sci-fi movie done in 50s B-movie style which I found funny) and ED WOOD (a kind of biography about the filmmaker Ed Wood - I haven't seen it yet though) are probably not everyone's cup of tea, and are different to the more gothy fare that Tim has come out with.
And then there's PLANET OF THE APES, also a Burton movie and one I've been warned to stay away from, from PotA fans and also Burton fans, so that's saying something. As always, your mileage may vary.
On a slightly related note, if you liked TNBC you might enjoy the stop-motion animaton JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH. It's based on the Roald Dahl book (famous UK childrens author, his work is great! ) and is directed by the same guy that directed TNBC. Very very cool movie also.

Tim Burton movies are always something different.. I loved Edward Scissorhands, while most of the people i knew that had seen it thought it was just strange! Mars Attacks is probably my least favorite, but NBC and James and the Giant Peach are great.

Heh, i'm late as usual. I saw NBC a long time ago and liked it! I still like it, a lot of people think it's too childish and just a kiddie movie, they're wrong. I've seen Mars Attacks.. Eh.. Not too great, i guess i'd say it sucks. PotA, sucks too. I've never seen Edward Scissorhands, but i've seen Beetlejuice, Sleepyhollow and the Batmans, alright movies.
Take care & G'Nite,

He He. I love this movie, although iI do still have to buy it. At this moment I'm borrowing it from my Aunt. It is VHS, and it is a special addition which has VINCENT and FRANKENWEENIE. I was very close to falling asleep when frankenweenie came on and watched it near to the end, and fell asleep...
I love the songs in it... Plus Tim Burton's movies are some of my favorites. I will also highly recommend this to any who have yet to see it.

For those interested, nightmare before christmas will be playing tommorow(tues 2 july) on 5smax, and fourth of july(thursday 4 july) on max.
I'm not sure of the exact times, but if you dont have MAX but you have STARZ, it will be showing shortly after on several of the STARZ premium channel network.

You are better off then. It is rare that they ever show anything good on TV... despite the fact there is an endless barage of channels available to watch.
Such is the facet of quantity over quality.
