 Favorite movie/tv genre?
I'm just wondering what genres everyone likes. My most favorite genre would definitely be sci-fi, including anything related to cyberpunk. Favorite series includes Caprica, some BSG, X-Files, Medium (though it's more mystical than anything else), Star Trek (excluding Voyager and Enterprise). Movies, some of my favorites are Ghost in The Shell, B movies like Flash Gordon (70's version with the awesome Queen soundtrack ), The Car, A.P.E.X. and many others. What about you?

Disaster movies!
Apocalyptic, alien-invasion, plague, natural disasters...
They all make me so very happy.

Why is that? :p I like some post apocalyptic movies. Road Warrior being one of them.

 Re: Favorite movie/tv genre?
I never really got into the Mad Max, Road Warrior series.
Some disaster movies/series I've enjoyed are: The Core (really bad science, I know), The Day After Tomorrow (more bad science), Hard Rain, The Andromeda Strain (original movie and re-make tv series), Independence Day, Cloverfield, Skyline, The Stand (Stephen King's tv series), The Walking Dead (tv series), Surface (tv series), Life After People (speculative documentary series with pretty good science).

 Re: Favorite movie/tv genre?
Like Nephele I can never get enough disaster movies.
My top three genres are:
1. Gay and Lesbian (Hey, according to Netflix, it's a genre!) 2. Documentaries on Ancient History, Myths / legends, Occult, Spiritual and Sexual. 3. Disaster movies. 4. Romance
Favorite movies within these genres:
1.Gay and Lesbian: Gay: Latter Days Lesbian: Elena Undone (currently)
2. Documentaries: Ancient History: The Plague Myths / Legends: Atlantis Occult: (anything paranormal related...) Spiritual: The Nature of Existence: Companion Series Sexual: The Science of Sex Appeal; Strange Sex
3. Disaster: The Day after Tomorrow; Impact
4. Period Movies: Pride and Prejudice (A&E Mini-Series with Colin Firth); Downton Abbey (TV Series)
I also like:
Detective Movies (Fracture), Science Fiction (SyFy's Alice), Thrillers (The Wolfman, if that is considered a thriller). Drama (Seabiscuit; Othello) Musicals (Repo: The Genetic Opera) Romance (The Cutting Edge Movies)
I also like anything that's dark or deals with things that interest me, despite genre such as: Harry Potter movies, Underworld movies, Blade Movies, X-Men movies, Sherlock Holmes, American Pie Movies, etc...
Honestly, I rarely pay attention to genre- I just watch what I like, but that is about the basics of it!
My movie interests are vast.

 Re: Favorite movie/tv genre?
For movie genres include action, horror, drama, and action/sci-fi (such as Star Wars) and horror/sci-fi (such as the Alien series). For TV shows, detective/cop shows, espionage, and some horror type, examples include Law & Order, 24, and The X-Files (I myself am an X-Phile, if you know what that means that high five to you) I'm even guilty of liking medical dramas such as ER and Grey's Anatomy (sue me, ok? lol) talin wrote: I LOVE The Stand! I had the dvd several years ago but lost it when I moved. I should get it again. I actually have two copies of The Stand on DVD, I bought the second because my first copy started to go downhill due to overuse I didn't think anyone else liked that movie, let alone owned it as I did, lol I was never really a big fan of disaster movies myself, although I did like The Day After Tomorrow as stated before (a lot of people bash this movie, yeah yeah, I know the science isn't fact, but it's a movie, it's supposed to be fun not 100% fact driven), but I never really thought of The Stand as a disaster movie myself. Maybe post-apoctalyptic.

 Re: Favorite movie/tv genre?
I quite enjoy b-movies (new or old), the cheesier the better, and I'll watch literally anything that has Zombies in it, I don't know when it happened, but I seem to have developed a preference for "dumb" (well, a lot of people consider them such) movies over the years, a quick glance over at my DVDs/Blu-rays and I've spotted at least 6 Jason Statham, and almost all the Superhero films released in the last 10 years. Bill Murray films are another love of mine, I also like sarcastic or just plain mean spirited comedy stand up (Frankie Boyle, Dylan Moran etc.), none of these are actually "genres" really, I guess when I sit down to watch something, I've come to favour switching off and relaxing, and just being entertained. Not that I don't watch more intelligent stuff too.

I like a lot of genres for TV/Movies, but my favorite is definitely comedy. I just love to laugh until I'm about ready to piss myself.

 Re: Favorite movie/tv genre?
I like a little bit of everything: romance, sci-fy, fantasy, drama, mystery, you name it. With tv though I find myself drawn more towards crime and cop shows like CSI NY and Blue Bloods, oh, and don't forget Sherlock Holmes! Movies: Fantasy--Lord of the Rings Sci-fy--Serenity Romance--Sense and Sensibility Action--Live Free or Die Hard Drama--The Help Musical--Summer Stock Mystery/Thriller--The Prestige Anyways, I think you all get the point. Any Svengoolie fans out there? I get a kick out of him although I usually don't get to sit down and watch the movies he has on since I'm usually busy with other stuff.

-- Nephele Those and horror movies. 90's and back had the coolest horror films, today horror seems to = heavy violence and gore, but there are a few newer ones that are decent enough.

 Re: Favorite movie/tv genre?
I've always had a spot in my heart for action movies. I grew up in the '80's, and my two favorite actors were Ahnold and Sylvester. In the 90's, as a teenager, I worshipped Steven Seagal. Always had a fondness for vampire and werewolf films. And lastly, I love disaster and post-apocalyptic films. And I've not searched this site yet to see if it was posted before, but NBC has a new series coming out later this year called Revolution. Short story: electricity disappears from the entire world for no known reason. Not even stuff like batteries, flash lights, or vehicles run anymore. The story them jumps 15 years ahead, where, due to the collapse of governments everywhere, militias and warlords have begun seizing control. I really want to watch this when it finally premieres. Revolution
