 Re: LGBTQI Issues and Related
On page 38 of this thread I mentioned politicians in St Petersburg were trying to pass a law, effectively making it illegal to even discuss any LGBTQI matters in public, it was soon after shelved. Well next week they are voting on it, allout.org is hoping to shame the Mayor, through international bad press, into vetoing the bill (which he is capable of doing). They have a petition hereQuote: February 20, 2012. In just one week the city of Saint Petersburg could pass an outrageous bill that will make it a crime to read, write, speak or meet to discuss anything considered “Gay”.
St. Petersburg is one of Russia's number one tourist destinations. That's why an international storm of bad publicity will force the Governor to think twice about the cost of signing this bill.

Signed and shared. That is truly shameful.

One of my best friends is a native of St Petersburg so I've set this his way to put some pressure on in Russian.

An update about Russia and the ban on mentioning LGBTQI in St. Petersburg: The law passed. It is now illegal to support or mention anything related to LGBTQI people. How sad. Article Here

 Re: LGBTQI Issues and Related
That's a disgusting law. article Midi linked to wrote: The law is not about LGBT rights, per se, but it is a panic over the fear that the national identity is under threat. How can the a law against supporting LGBT be not against LBGT rights? I'd say that the LBGT rights are seriously harmed when nothing positive can be said about it in public. same article, emphasis added wrote: The law bans any positive communication in the public sphere about what it terms “propaganda of sodomy, lesbianism, bisexualism and transgenderism”.

Since nothing more needs to be said about the LGBT implications of the law, let me just add this as a straight person:
Sodomy is far more fun than popular media gives it credit for.

 Re: LGBTQI Issues and Related
I'm interested to see what happens if Madonna really does try to go to St. Petersburg for her concert and tries to advocate LGBTQI rights as mentioned in the article I linked.
Would she even be allowed in the city after threatening to break their new law?

It's sad when people think that they can governmentalize their little moralities. It's even worse when governments readily endorse such things.
As an openly gay man, I can safely say is that all I want is to be left alone and be viewed equally under the law.

As an openly gay man, I can safely say is that all I want is to be left alone and be viewed equally under the law. I think that is all that most of us in the LGBTQI community want. Also, have any of you seen "8" yet? It is a one and a half hour long play starting names such as Matt Bomer, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, George Takei, Martin Sheen, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Bacon etc... and is a play about the court hearing that was not allowed to be seen by the public. Well- they made a play out of what happened during the trial and the eventual overturning of prop 8. watch it if you can. At the end, the prosecution as well as the plaintiffs and the two women's children were there at the end. It was very amazing. According to the play and the proceedings: "We put fear and prejudice on trail and fear and prejudice lost."

 Re: LGBTQI Issues and Related
A friend of mine just introduced me to a character called "Lizzy the Lezzy" and I have to share it with you all. It is an 18 page animated poem about a lesbian trying to get laid. Lizzy the Lezzy Gets LaidOh, yeah: This is probably not suitable for work or school. Very crass language. Plus you'll laugh. A lot. I assume. And don't get defensive about anything. It is suppose to be funny. I myself am a bisexual and a witch (you'll understand when you read it) and I didn't take offense, so please- it's meant to be funny.
