Decided I'd start this thread to see what are some of everyones favorite song lyrics.
Name the song and the artist, then post the lyrics. You can explain why you like the song if you feel the need...but Im not going to twist your arm and make you.
The Ostrich
Steppen Wolf
We'll call you when you're six years old
And drag you to the factory
To train your brain for eighteen years
With promise of security
But then you're free
And forty years you waste to chase the dollar sign
So you may die in Florida
At the pleasant age of sixty nine
The water's getting hard to drink
We've mangled up the country side
The air will choke you when you breathe
We're all committing suicide
But it's alright
It's progress folks keep pushin' till your body rots
Will strip the earth of all it's green
And then divide her into parking lots
But there's nothing you and I can do
You and I are only two
What's right and wrong is hard to say
Forget about it for today
We'll stick our heads into the sand
Just pretend that all is grand
Then hope that everything turns out ok
You're free to speak your mind my friend
As long as you agree with me
Don't criticize the father land
Or those who shape your destiny
'Cause if you do
You'll lose your job your mind and all the friends you knew
We'll send out all our boys in blue
They'll find a way to silence you
But there's nothing you and I can do
You and I are only two
What's right and wrong is hard to say
Forget about it for today
We'll stick our heads into the sand
Just pretend that all is grand
Then hope that everything turns out ok
....the lyrics are great, or so I think.

Dazed And Confused
Led Zeppelin
Been Dazed and Confused for so long it's not true.
Wanted a woman, never bargained for you.
Lots of people talk and few of them know,
soul of a woman was created below.
You hurt and abuse tellin' all of your lies.
Run around sweet baby, Lord how they hypnotize.
Sweet little baby, I don't know where you've been.
Gonna love you baby, here I come again.
Every day I work so hard, bringin' home my hard earned pay
Try to love you baby, but you push me away.
Don't know where you're goin', only know just where you've been,
Sweet little baby, I want you again.
Been dazed and confused for so long, it's not true.
Wanted a woman, never bargained for you.
Take it easy baby, let them say what they will.
Will your tongue wag so much when I send you the bill?

Mine would have to be "Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids" by Cradle of Filth...
I am not sure if this has been done before one the board but a search turned up with nothing...
(Parental Advisory, Explicit Lyrics)
------------------------------- START
Maleficent in dusky rose
Gathered satin lapped Her breasts
Like blood upon the snow
A tourniquet of Topaz
Glistened at Her throat
Awakening, pulled from the tomb
Her spirit freed eclipsed the moon
That She outshone as a fallen star
A regal ornament from a far flung nebular
Her likeness hung in the black gallery
Commanding unease
Demanding of Death to breathe....
Midst the whirl and daylight fauna
Of society at court
Elizabeth bedazzled, Her presence sought applause
Though Her torchlit shadow
Thrown upon damp cellar walls
Greeted nothing but despair from slaves Her nights enthralled
Thirteen Winter solstices had shown
Her path, that the dark
Had marked its dominion
Spaying the confessor
Whose caresses she'd known,
As whipcord in the House of Dog
Her cold cunt meat on holy bone
Raped of faith, She now embraced
The narcissistic unrest frozen on the mirror's face
With this disdain, inside these veins
(Highborn wanton that She was)
She sought to keep what age would claim
Her soul was sold and for this toll
Reeking pyres ever smouldered
On the whims of one so in control
Elizabeth, mysterious.
Cruelty brought thee orchids
From the bowels of the abyss
Once upon atrocity when midwitches stifled cries
And carved abortive runes in reddened wombs
Exhumed by scrying eyes
Madness came upon
Her like an amourous lover's seed
Lifesblood splashed upon Her skin
In gouts torture unleashed
And to Her dead reflection
Twas as if Her pallor gleamed
Like an angel's warmed by candles
Where erotic stains had cleaved
So demons dragged this libertine
Lusts screaming for release
Upon the flesh of maidens preened
As canvas for caprice
Exacting obeisance
Her gaze held a seance
Of spirits too trapped under glass to commune
A sleeter mistress than Luna
Whose threats to consume Her
Met with torments giving vent to Her swoon
Flat on Her back
Pack-prey for the reams
Of verses and curses
That haunted Her dreams
Midnightmare chimed
Thirteen in Her mind
A disciple of scars
Branded years hissed behind
Ridden split-thighed
By the Father of lies
An ovation of wolves
Blushed the skies as they writhed
But Heaven is never forever
She came, a spent storm
From the clouds...
Leaving serpents in office
Inside every gate
To lick righteous holes
Blinding Lords to the fate
Of virgins forced naked
To defile on rent knees
Hacked and racked backwards
Menses choking their pleas
"More. Whore. More.
Twitching make me wet with thee
Carcass rub me raw"
------------------------------- END
I shiver when I listen to it. I love it and consider this song the best song ever written by COF!

Optima by Christ Analogue
If the fear in my brain would know one minor thing
it'd be whether I sink or I drown
And in my divide I somehow come alive
and I'm wrenching myself off the ground
and in your concern you ask me if it hurts
and I wonder how you even care
yes god it does, and it defeats the cause
but there's something you must understand
that I cannot under any circumstance
reduce what I've enhanced
for I am not alive
by lack of my devise
If the fear in my head would have one last protest
it'd be whether I cease or desist
and the anguish will come
but I will not succumb
to a lifetime of running from this
and through my ideals
I see just how it feels
to be treated as if your not shit
and throughout my install
I feel tired and raw
but subsequence drives me to this
that I cannot under any circumstance
reduce what I've enhanced
for I am not alive
by lack of my devise
under any circumstance
reduce what I've enhanced
for I am not alive
by lack of my own pride

The Rapture
by Siouxsie and the Banshees
O pull on the rein and haul me in
back to the start where eyes first blink to see
A flowing mane a cut-glass limb
and they're falling soaring so rhythmically
O pull on the rein and haul me in back to the start
rebirthed in ecstacy with cherubim and seraphim
When I was falling soaring so rhythmically
Falling soaring falling for you so completely
The Rapture unfurling blues and greens
The Rapture a swirling violet stream
mystic majestic entangled in a web of curling vapour thread
Encaptured by forces unseen
Enraptured an eclipse intoxicating
strangely not inside strangely not outside
Drowning in the middle of an eerie transition
And I don't know your name
Never been alive yet I haven't died
I hover disembodied in a semi-wakened haze
Floating far above the cloud
sinking far below the ground
Only my senses remain
The Rapture unfurling blues and greens
The Rapture a swirling violet stream
mystic majestic entangled in a web of iridescent curling vapour thread
Floating far above the cloud
sinking far below the ground
No form only my senses remain
Wondering if I dare to say your name
wondrous thoughts embalmed avow you came
By the crescent disc rising amethyst
how can love remain the same unchanged?
Moonlight plays upon this sunken brow
midnight ink bleeds wet mercurial clouds
By the crescent disc rising amethyst
somnambulist unharnessed storms the plough
By the crescent disc rising amethyst
how can love remain the same unchained?

It's horribly tough to pick one favorite set of lyrics, so here's the lyrics to a song I've been listening to a lot lately.
The Foggy Dew
anonymous
As down the glen one Easter morn
Through a city fair rode I.
There armed lines of marching men,
In squadrons did pass me by.
No pipe did hum, no battle drum,
Did sound out its loud tattoo.
But the angelus bell o'er the Liffey's swell,
Rang out through the foggy dew.
Right proudly high over Dublin town
They flung out the flag of war.
'Twas far better to die 'neath an Irish sky,
Than at Suvla or Sud el Bar.
And from the plains of royal Meath,
Brave men came hurrying through,
While Britannia's Huns with their long-range guns,
Sailed into the foggy dew.
But the night fell black and the rifle's crack,
Made perfidious Albion reel.
Through that leaden hail seven tongues of flame,
Did shine o'er the lines of steel.
By each shining blade a prayer was said,
That to Ireland her sons would be true,
And when morning broke, still the green flag shook out,
Its folds in the foggy dew.
It was England bade our Wild Geese go,
That small nations might be free.
But their lonely graves are by Suvla's waves
On the fringe of the great North Sea.
Oh, had they died by Pearse's side
Or had fought along with brave Cathal Brugha,
Their names we would keep where the Fenians sleep,
'Neath the shroud of the foggy dew.
But the bravest fell and the requiem knell,
Rang out mournfully and clear,
For those who died that Eastertide
In the springtime of the year.
While the world did gaze with deep amaze,
At those fearless men and few,
Who bore the fight that freedom's light,
Might shine through the foggy dew.
As back through the glen I rode again,
And my heart with grief was sore.
For I parted then with those gallant men,
I ever will see no more,
And to and fro in my dreams I go,
And I'll kneel and I'll say a prayer for you,
For slavery fled, oh you gallant dead,
When you fell in the foggy dew.

Blood Roses
Tori Amos
Blood Roses
Blood Roses
Back on the street now
can't forget the things you never said
on days like these gets me thinking
when chickens get a taste of your meat
chickens get a taste of your meat
you gave him your blood
and your warm little diamond
he likes killing you after your dead
you think I'm a queer
I think you're a queer
I think you're a queer
Said I think you're a queer
and I shaved every place where you been
I shaved every place where you been
God knows I've thrown away those graces
the Belle of New Orleans tried to show me
once how to tango
wrapped around your feet wrapped around like good little roses
Blood Roses
Blood Roses
back on the street now
now you've cut out the flute
from the throat of the loon
at least when you cry now
he can't even hear you
when chickens get a taste of your meat
when he sucks you deep
sometimes you're nothing but meat

One of my favorites (it was hard to pick just one) Is "Cry Love" by John Hiatt. I deliberately chose against the ones that it is likely that most of you know.
/div wrote: A moment of steel, a dry eyed house Did he say goodbye to you, or did you kick him out I know you're not afraid to go alone But this was a marriage of spirit, flesh and bone
Now what you gonna do when the planets shift What you gonna do, gonna slit your wrists Bleed all over the milky way The stars in your eyes look red today
Cry love, cry love The tears of an angel The tears of a dove Spilling all over Your heart from above Cry love, cry love
The trust of a woman in his hand But he was a little boy, not a man You loved him stronger than he could feel But he was wrapped up in himself like an orange peel
Now what you gonna do with the bruise and the blush What you gonna do when there's no rush Cop a little misery at the corner store Well one day that train of pain won't stop no more
Cry love, cry love The tears of an angel The tears of a dove Spilling all over Your heart from above Cry love, cry love
Throwing up ashes on the floor If this is a lesson in love, well what's it for The heart won't remember the burning fire The next time you feel the flame of desire
Cry love, cry love The tears of an angel The tears of a dove Spilling all over Your heart from above Cry love, cry love
Cry love, cry love The tears of an angel The tears of a dove Spilling all over Your heart from above Cry love, cry love
Cry love, cry love, cry love

Corpse Is A Corpse
A corpse is a corpse of course it is
predetermined destiny uncommon bond
don't be afraid to take my hand
walk with the dead beaten broken man
a cult of me a stain and feast the open brain
the pleasures i indulge will pave a pathway to hell
from an offset imbalance of membrane and cell
and though you try and try and try to pull me down
it's all been lies it's lies begat the lies again
i'm not afraid, afraid of dying anymore
only i can set me free
so turn and blame but don't you fuckin look at me
it's over, it's over
we've secretly replaced your pathetic existence with more pain
and anguish and suffering than one soul could possibly stomach
so fasten your noose and enjoy your ride
cause life is hell and then you die
and though you try and try and try to pull me down
it's all been lies it's lies begat the lies again
i'm not afraid, afraid of dying anymore
only i can set me free
so turn and blame but don't you fuckin look at me
decompose you maggot
now you'll shut the fuck up

"Patience Worth"
-Faith and the Muse.
So you've returned to lengthen my shadow
To once again shatter my windows
What a child will feel
When the home is hell
Hands loom and fall
Waiting for the pen to move
With arms too wide to hold just one
Too small to heal the world Go on
Were it but words that called me home
Relayed the dream that beckoned you beyond
Every injured soul
Needs a silent hand to hold
Someone to break
Pleading for the heart to hate
Hell is an empty house haunted by a child's voice...
*sighs* so pretty.

"Thank You" by Led Zeppelin...
If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you. When mountains crumble to the sea, there will still be you and me.
Kind woman, I give you my all, Kind woman, nothing more.
Little drops of rain whisper of the pain, tears of loves lost in the days gone by. My love is strong, with you there is no wrong, together we shall go until we die. My, my, my. An inspiration is what you are to me, inspiration, look... see.
And so today, my world it smiles, your hand in mine, we walk the miles, Thanks to you it will be done, for you to me are the only one. Happiness, no more be sad, happiness....I'm glad. If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you. When mountains crumble to the sea, there will still be you and me.

Incubus, Stellar
Meet me in outer space
We could spend the night
Watch the earth come up
I've grown tired of that place
Won't you come with me?
We could start again
How do you do it
Make me feel like I do
How do you do it
It's better than I ever knew
How do you do it
Make me feel like I do
Meet me me in outer space
I will hold you close
If you're afraid of heights
I need you to see this place
It might be the only way
That I can show you how
It feels to be inside you
Incubus, The Warmth
I'd like to close my eyes and go numb,
But there's a cold wind coming from,
The top of the highest high rise today.
Its not a breeze 'cuz it blows hard,
Yes and it wants me to discard,
The humanity I know,
watch the warmth blow away...
So don't let the world bring you down,
Not everyone here is that fucked up and cold.
Remember why you came and while you're alive,
Experience the warmth before you grow old.
So do you think I should adhere,
To that pressing new frontier,
And leave in my wake, a trail of fear,
Or should I hold my head up high,
And throw a wrench in spokes by,
Leaving the air behind me clear?

Smashing Pumpkins - Soma
Nothing left to say
And all I've left to do
Is run away
From you
And she led me on, down
With secrets I can't keep
Close your eyes and sleep
Don't wait up for me
Hush now don't you speak
To me
Wrapped my hurt in you
And took my shelter in that pain
The opiate of blame
Is your broken heart, your heart
So now I'm all by myself
As I've always felt
I'll betray my tears
To anyone caught in our ruse of fools
One last kiss for me...yeah
One last kiss good night
Didn't want to lose you once again
Didn't want to be your friend
Fulfilled a promise made of tin
And crawled back to you
I'm all by myself
As I've always felt
I'll betray myself
To anyone, lost, anyone but you
So let the sadness come again
On that you can depend on me, yeah
Until the bitter, bitter end of the world, yeah
When god sleeps in bliss
And I'm all by myself
As I've always felt
And I'll betray myself
To anyone
Lamb - Gorecki
If I should die this very moment
I wouldn't fear
For I've never known completeness
Like being here
Wrapped in the warmth of you
Loving every breath of you
Still my heart this moment
Or it might burst
Could we stay right here
Until the end of time until the earth stops turning
Wanna love you until the seas run dry
I've found the one I've waited for
All this time I've loved you
And never known your face
All this time I've missed you
And searched this human race
Here is true peace
Here my heart knows calm
Safe in your soul
Bathed in your sighs
Wanna stay right here
Until the end of time
'Til the earth stops turning
Gonna love you until the seas run dry
I've found the one I've waited for
The one I've waited for
All I've known
All I've done
All I've felt was leading to this
All I've known
All I've done
All I've felt was leading to this
Wanna stay right here
'Til the end of time 'till the earth stops turning
I'm gonna love you till the seas run dry
I've found the one I've waited for
The one I've waited for
The one I've waited for
Wanna stay right here
'Til the end of time 'till the earth stops turning
I'm gonna love you till the seas run dry
I've found the one I've waited for
The one I've waited for
The one I've waited for

Love Never Dies - Part1 - APB
Forever in your arms, you said, forever in my heart
My love for you will make us both climb higher
Driven by the power that is burning in our hearts
You know my faith in you will keep us together
Forever in your arms you said, forever in my heart
My love for you will make us both climb higher
I sense your presence in this room, I feel that you are near
You hold me close and whisper, "Love is forever"
Love is forever...
Love never dies...
Vampyre Kiss - Inkubus Sukkubus
Fall into my arms my love
And dream sweet sinful dreams
Where no-one is ever who they seem
Let me be your darkened angel
Surrender your love to me
Embrace the nigth for all eternity
Let me hold you, open up your love to me
Feel my caresses, open up your heart to me
Where in this life would you find a lover like I can be
I will destroy you, open up your soul to me
Feel no fear my love
For we were meant to be as one
Is not the moon much finer than the sun?
Let my cheeks be stained
By the yeilding of your heart
And never more need we be apart
Fall into my arms my love
And dream sweet sinful dreams
Where no-one is ever who they seem
And while my crimson lips
Are still moistened from the kiss
Share with me such unwordly bliss

I don't have the time to find lyrics online but the song is:
Bother by Stone Sour. I like the lyrcis because I think it would have been the song I would have written and I can actually feel the song (which transcends listening to it).
