Re: Introduction Thread - New? Introduce yourself here!
Hello, I'm a 23 year old who wafts between OH and PA. I first ventured into goth and darker cultures when I was 12-13. I was curious about what goth really was because someone had thrown the word around, and I actually found proper sources [on the internets?!?]. First I picked up a Bauhaus compilations, then First And Last And Always, and I haven't been back to normal since.
By some definitions, in a few years I'll have been goth for half my life. Thrilling and marvelous.
My musical tastes drift in and out of goth proper. Most recently I've been through early darkwave, neofolk, and dark crazy ambient shit. I love male vocals but I'm almost hostile to the female voice. It does nothing for me. I relish UGLY music, music with teeth. I do like some conventionally pretty or beautiful things, but I don't like them in goth.
I like black, silver/grey, and muted pastel colors. Generally black. I'm a sucker for floral patterns, ridiculously gaudy overshirts, and form-fitting black shirts. Skirts > pants. I buy coats like some women buy shoes, but one pair of DMs and curiously stompy Sketchers is enough.

Yeah, music in general rather than performance based, though that is what I hope to be doing one day. What sort of complications? The complications were of the school I was going to... The music program sucked and so did the school. The education was terrible and the the school was way too expensive.

Re: Introduction Thread - New? Introduce yourself here!
Hello, I am 37 from Long Island. Lately I've been reading a lot of dark fantasy and horror type stuff, like Caitlín R. Kiernan, Joe Hill, Lovecraft, and Shirley Jackson. I came here mostly to talk about this type of thing, but have been enjoying talking about other things, too. I'm especially currently excited about the work of Caitlín R. Kiernan, and want to share my enthusiasm. I'm especially psyched about her upcoming novel The Drowning Girl, and would love for other people to talk about it with. Please check out the Publisher's Weekly starred review they gave it, http://www.publishersweekly.com/978-0-451-46416-3You can preorder it on Amazon, http://www.amazon.com/Drowning-Girl-Caitlin-R-Kiernan/dp/0451464168/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329172770&sr=8-1

Closet goth here. Due to circumstances over the past few years, I've toned it down a lot (unfortunately). I love the goth rock of the 80's, however: The Sisters of Mercy, Fields of the Nephilim, The Cult, and the list goes on...
Simply put, I'm looking to meet with like-minded people, I suppose!

Simply put, I'm looking to meet with like-minded people, I suppose! Hello there. Well....You have come to the right place! I'm a bit of a closet goth due to certain circumstances myself... It doesn't really help when all you have is one Gothic looking jacket, but hey, at least I like to wear all black... Anyway, I hope you have a great time here!

A very cold chilling welcome to fellow interns. I must say that I'm liking the initial list of 80's goth music; I'm often accused of being stuck in this same era...but it's a lie, honestly

Grim Tidings, forum lurkers. It is my hope that my emergence into these threads will serve as a benefit, and that I can provide perspective, insight or other contributions in equal measure to those I extract. I anticipate our imminent discourse with baited breath. I fancy myself an Epicurian Hedonist, taking pleasure in philosophy, critical thinking, and pleasures of the flesh (note: children, and adults with the minds of children, are exempt from my lustful romps). In my mind, it is critical thinking that separates the wolf from the sheep. I've a broad and eclectic taste in music, generally because I've a wide range of emotions that are run through a macabre filter in my mind. At any given moment, you might catch me listening to Robert Johnson, Burzum, The Birthday Party, The Cramps, yelworC, Sisters of Mercy, Tom Waits, Front Line Assembly, Johannes Brahms, The Rolling Stones, M.D.C., or Kammarheit, to name a few. While I understand the inherent incongruity of my sonic library, I find such point null. My literary diversions are tragically limited, however I've an appetite for Harlan Ellison's work, as well as that of Lovecraft, Poe, Shakespeare, Milton, H.G. Wells, Charles Bukowski, Ray Bradbury, PKD, Hunter S. Thompson, George R.R. Martin, John Steinbeck, C.S. Friedman, and Chuck Palahniuk, among others. And let's not forget Dante Alighieri, whom placed the sycophants in a pit of excrement for their wallowing, writhing pleasure.

I had a group of friends for a few months that were very intellectual and critical in thinking. Excellent vocabulary and well read. We played tabletop rpg which I've always loved and they would have philosophical debates which I didn't like much since I always lost. Best time I had in my younger years, one identified himself as goth at the time but I didn't know what that was (now I do clearly). Definitely look forward to seeing you on the board. Hail fellow and well met.

Re: Introduction Thread - New? Introduce yourself here!
Hello! I'm 18 years old girl from Slovenia. I've had interests in goth culture when I was 13. Back than it was my mother who prevented my goth stile, but now she doesn't care any more. And now I dress like one. I'm don't know every thing about goth culture because goth scene in Slovenia is really small
