Snow Flower and the Secret Fan
A beautiful film about the bond of laotong in Chinese culture (sworn sisters). The film deals with a pair of modern women and of a pair in the 19th century, and how their lives paralleled each others. Really made me reflect on the concept and nature of love between two people.

 Re: Last film you watched
I've just re-watched all 3 of the Underworld trilogy, in eager anticipation of seeing The Awakening very soon

Unless you've already seen it and hated it, then I'd be like, "yeah it totally sucked", and walk away quietly with my head down. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cabinet_of_Dr._Caligari_(2005_film)I saw Nosferatu in the theater with a live keyboardist, but the audience somehow got confused and thought it was a comedy and laughed through the entire thing. They kind of killed the horror vibe. I've never heard of the remake. Thank you for mentioning it, because I tend to assume remakes aren't very good and ignore them. I think you might be right about this one being good! Yeah, I saw Nosferatu with the old soundtrack. It's funny, but I had the complete opposite experience with Shadow of the Vampire. I was the only person in the theater laughing. It was embarassing. -- Tue Feb 14, 2012 7:15 pm -- FairyInBoots wrote: As an example, OK, I don't fault people if they naturally speak with different accents --I learned to adopt a passable UK accent from living there, and sometimes just being around people with non-Midwestern accents, hell, watching BBC America will lead me to lapse into my other accent. At the weekender in Chicago I go to, I tend to have an accent half the weekend cos most of my weekender friends are people from Europe. He says he was raised by British parents, which, OK, fair enough, he has an easy explanation for lapsing into a UK accent --but his accent in public speaking, like introducing the silent films at the arthouse cinema he plays organ for, he'll get more... "affectedly posh" with every second. And then switch back-and-forth between Eaton and New Englander. So yes, I now even doubt his previously plausible claims of his own background, and just think he's one of the most unintentionally silly people I've ever met. (Unrelated to movies, sorry everyone) I...kinda do that, but it's unintentional and not so much a UK accent as just sounding generally "foriegn" if the people around me are to be believed. I've been told I sound Scottish, Irish, or like a Spanish speaker. Maybe I could be the female Sasha Baron Cohen or something. (Back to movies) You could be right about the remake being horrible, of course. I'm a bit horrified by the idea of the proposed Beetlejuice remake.

 Re: Last film you watched
I just watched Safe House with Denzel Washington. It was alright. For some reason I thought it was going to be one of those movies that make you think, instead there was a lot of action (which I am not a fan of). So if you like action films, I recommend you see it.

It seems that if it happens it may be a sequel rather than a remake. I'm skeptical.

I watched it on Valentine's Day. I'm looking forward to seeing his upcoming film adaptation of the Dark Shadows series. Very, very curious about it. For those who haven't seen the original TV show, consider it. I like the beginning of it, before the introduction of Barnabas Collins, who then turn into the star (and is played in the film by Johnny Depp).

Priest, with Paul Bettany and Karl Urban. I really liked it, even though it's a very "Christian" film. I hope they make more in the series, I'm interested in where it can go.

I really wish they hadn't decided to licence the IP and then make up an entirely different story for it. The comic was spectacular.

I really should watch them all (for some reason it seems I missed the first and third film ).
