Ok, I admit that piqued my interest and google turned up nothing promising. Would you care to add anything?

I had to stop reading the first article in the OP as I found it too disturbing... I cannot understand why people feel the need to do such dreadful things to others. It just baffles me, and to do this for such a sick reason is incomprehensible to me.

I don't understand it... and I don't think I really want to, either!

I agree with those that opined the view that no amount of rehabilitation will serve any useful purpose. People that do this kind of thing, for little to no reason, are beyond all hope I feel, and they should be removed from society as they are too dangerous to share this world with those of us that live within the law and are minding our own business!

Agreed. I do believe that there are people who are beyond any redemption, and need to be removed from society for the safety of all.

I also believe that people who bring children into the world and assume no responsibility for teaching them right from wrong also share in the blame for when their children become a danger to others.

I don't think it's really that big a step for unchecked bullying behavior to escalate into something like what this girl did.

I'm pretty sure this is a psychopath. Realistically modern psychiatry cannot prove that the disorder is due to choice or a neurological defect, though I choose to believe it is a biological fault. Reason is I just cannot believe any person could do that without having something wrong upstairs. Now medical science can treat major conditions like schizophrenia, bipolar, etc. but only barely and the medication used in some cases takes a lot of time to get correct for each person. We don't even know what would work with psychopathy. Lock them up, don't let them out, and keep trying to find a working medical solution. Preferably a surgical one for everyone's sake.

On a side note, there are some in the mainstream that accuse goth of this kind of evil which Infuriates me.

I can't find anything on the internet either, but it's not exactly a "hot topic" for study. Essentially as I recall, the female serial killer has masculine physical attributes, wide-set eyes and will use an overt weapon such as a knife or a gun to dispatch their victims. Women who kill for revenge or money typically fit the stereotype of the "Black Widow" and are more feminine in appearance and likely to use something less obvious to kill their victim, like a poison or drug. Seeing this girl I immediately thought of Aileen Wuornos.

Spidey, I'm sorry, but it sounds to me as though that teacher in your class is promoting physiognomy, which is pseudoscience.

That's what it sounded like to me too.

I'm not the highly educated sort, just a shift worker and it's really cool when I get to learn something I hadn't heard of before thanks nephele! Don't feel bad if you hadn't heard of physiognomy before spidey it was new for me too.

Probably budding anti social personality disorder if I had to wager a guess. My guess would be that the young lady's own history is very, very dark indeed.

It certainly does not justify the murder of a child. Personally, I think the teen should be locked up and key tossed away.

That's what it sounded like to me too.

Spidey's explanation reminded me of Phrenology, a (long abandonded) theory that measurements of the skull said something about corresponding brain areas and, in turn, about someones personality.

Of course, the size and exact shape of your head doesn't say anything about your skull. That's become clear since, but a lot of things about the (developing) brain still are not. (But the brain does develop into the late teens, early twenties, I believe.)

So, even though there is something seriously wrong with this girl (her personality or just her moral development? I don't know) and I would be more assured if someone who kills for a 'thrill' is off the streets forever and always, I am not sure if she is indeed beyond all hope. But how on earth do you decide that someone (teen or adult) is indeed a lost case and should from now on only see the street from a prison cell?

Could have been. The class was interesting none-the-less. :)

Post Re: Teenager sentenced for life in prison for "thrill kill"
It reminds me of the bullcrap about kids that have been bullied themselves turning into monsters that bully, maim and kill others. I never can understand bullied children using said bullying as the reason that they become aggressive and violent adults. Speaking as someone that was emotionally and verbally bullied for nearly all of my school life (over ten years) I would never dream of making anyone feel even half as horrible as I was made to feel... let alone killing someone purely to see "what it felt like."

My bullying was so insidious at one stage that I developed a fear of school and my attendance record for one year was 49% absent to 51% in school! I was the target of a hate campaign and had malicious lies spread saying I'd said nasty things about the girls in my class... I returned from a long absence (during a playground game I was badly injured and suffered a broken arm and a nasty, deep wound on my left leg that required hospital visits, many of them) and no one would be more than civil to me for about a week before it all came out. To this day I have nothing but suspicions about who started it all (but I don't know who else it could be but the person I have in mind!)

Never once did I, or have I, felt the need to act out against the actual people that did all that, let alone those that are completely innocent years afterwards. I just don't get it and I cannot understand people using bullying as an excuse for being a criminal (although had I suffered physical violence I could honestly understand fighting back against the bully/s, especially when a person reaches that point where you just snap!)

But to kill an innocent young girl, just because you "feel like it"? No.
