 Find Your Presidential Soulmate
Apparently, my presidential soulmate is Gary Johnson, former governor of New Mexico. To find out yours, click this link and select various issues to see how the candidates compare to your views, courtesy of Project Vote Smart. Note: A candidate's stand on various issues is determined by that candidate's voting record, public statements, etc. The "Lacks Courage" indicator means that a candidate hasn't yet responded to Project Vote Smart's "Political Courage Test". -- Nephele

 Re: Find Your Presidential Soulmate
I LOVE it when you post sites like this. I got a 78% best match for Gary Johnson as well. All the others were in the 40s, believe it or not. Interesting! Thank you, Nephele!

 Re: Find Your Presidential Soulmate
No surprise that I am a 79% match with Obama. I may disagree with him on some things, and think he could do more in some areas, but I was already planning to vote for the guy. ~spidey

Not that it really applies to me but I got a 68% match to Obama... and 60% to Gary Johnson.

 Re: Find Your Presidential Soulmate
Oh dude I remember this site! We used this last year in my AP US Government class and everytime I got like an 85% or something for Obama.
Wow, this time I got 88%. It was 95% until I said I didn't think people should be required to purchase health care. I think Gary Johnson was 44%. Never heard of him before, though.

ittybittybat wrote: I think Gary Johnson was 44%. Never heard of him before, though. You probably haven't heard much about Gary Johnson because he hasn't been invited to speak at many television broadcast debates, and he doesn't have the $ millions to run a successful presidential campaign. So that's why he's not so well known outside of New Mexico. Also, Johnson has recently switched political parties (up until December of last year, he was a Republican). Johnson is a fiscal conservative who has made the issue of balancing the budget his primary concern, stating that the biggest threat to our national security is not the cutting of military spending, but that the nation is going bankrupt. He has proven that he's serious about getting our nation back in the black, as his history of vetoing spending bills in New Mexico resulted in a $1 billion surplus for his state. The Republicans don't like Johnson, though, because Johnson is a social liberal, supporting marriage equality, decriminalization/legalization of marijuana, reproductive rights, etc. That's the same reason why the Republicans don't like Ron Paul, but Gary Johnson is more socially liberal than Ron Paul. Anyone else here taking the quiz? -- Nephele

 Re: Find Your Presidential Soulmate
Ah, that's why he was almost at 50%. I'm pretty socially liberal. Actually, I'm pretty liberal-liberal. That's probably where the 88% Obama thing came from... Dude, parties (and I mean the organizations themselves) piss me off on both sides. The focus is more on money than potential with these guys. Ick. My actual presidential soulmate is probably Jimmy McMillan because "THE RENT IS TOO. DAMN. HIGH!" He should run for president.

And Dylan Ratigan is trying to change that. Although, without getting Citizen's United overturned, I don't see his movement have much of an impact. ~spidey

-- Nephele I neglected that I cannot vote in your elections and took the quiz anyway. My presidential soulmate, according to this quiz, is Obama (83%). Followed by Gary Johnson (43%) and Buddy Roemer (38%). Which I found funny, as I have never even seen or heard Johnson's or Roemer's name in the media covering the presidential (pre-)elections over here. All we hear about is Romney, Sanctorum, Perry and Gringich (and Ron Paul, occasionally). And some of those conservative candidates are so very far from my own political parties that it's hard to understand for me why they are so appealing to so many Americans. But then, I don't understand their equivalents where I live either.

That's sad, because you want to elect the most capable, and not the richest president-to-be. Not related to this thread, but I always found it a pity that only Americans can vote, since who is in charge in the US influences my country - and many other countries - so much. I guess I'd just like a say in something that is going to affect me as well (granted, to a much lesser degree than US citizens).

I would be very interesting to see who would be president and how elections around the world would change if such a thing occurred.

I got 42% each for Gary Johnson and Buddy Roemer and 72% Obama which doesn't surprise me at all, since the President and I are not even 1 year apart in age. Think he likes (Black) Sabbath? \m/ -- Mon Jan 23, 2012 9:29 pm -- Oh! And Nephele...have you anagrammed the Presidential Candidates yet
