Post Re: Introduction Thread - New? Introduce yourself here!
Hello Goth.net,
I've been into the goth subculture for years now, and I've been lurking on this forum for at least a year, and I finally decided to join up :) I don't really know what else to say for an intro..other than, as far as what "branch" of goth defines me most, I would probably say romantic, although I think each branch is beautiful in its own way. :D

Hi everyone, hope all are well =]
<insert generic comment about being dreadful at welcome posts>
I haven't joined a new forum since 2007 and since that has been overwhelmed with wannabe Edward Cullen's and Psychopathic mods on some egotistical rampage I thought a fresh start is necessary =]
Theoretically, I am not a Goth. I attempted once upon a time ago but the whole dress up to look like a Goth on the outside thing isn't my style, basically, I'm lazy! (LOL!)
I'm 21, from England and I enjoy creating all number of things. I enjoy reading fantasy, drama, novels, fiction, in fact I read all number of things and have been known to sit and browse a dictionary. I'm far from intellectual and find something hard to understand, so generally just accept things for what they are. I *was* a paranormal researcher (until my relationship with the group leader broke up and I was the sacrifice!) and we studied all number of things from cold reading to Quantum Mechanics. Although I'm a skeptic, I'm a believer too.
Just because I'm not a Goth on the outside doesn't mean I don't count lol! So I hope you're willing to accept me for who I am =]

Ciao for now and I have read the rules =]

Sounds interesting - even if you don't like the generic welcome post, I like to tell you that I'm pleased and your introduction triggers some expectations. By the way, the I'm not a goth but ... introduction is more generic than you might think. The Goths seems to be the only ones who can't find a definition of gothic. That's because of the individualism I suppose.

So be welcome Luxuria by an ordinary demon. 8)

Luxuria, I especially like the screen name you've chosen for yourself, as it has an interesting history!

At first glance, some might take it to indicate "luxury" as in the modern definition of the word: "great comfort, sumptuous living," evoking imagery of fine dining, expensively furnished living accommodations, etc.

But prior to the 17th century, and further back towards the Middle Ages, "luxury" was defined as "lasciviousness; sensual pleasure," with the word having had more sexual connotations of a sinful nature.

Back in ancient Roman times, the literal meaning of the Latin word luxuria was: "rankness" as in "vigorous growth (of plantlife)." Its figurative meaning was: "exuberance; the quality or state of being flagrant; excessiveness; riotous living."

So there has been quite an evolution of the word "luxury," and I think "Luxuria" makes an excellent gothic screen name!

Perhaps you already knew all this, and I'm sorry to go off on such a tangent, but I'm a wordie, loving words. :D Your screen name just got me all excited. Heheh.

Back on topic: Welcome to Goth.net, Luxuria, and all new members!

I have learnt something new =] I was aware of the Latin meaning of Luxuria to mean lustfulness, the rest I did not know. Thank you ^_^
An awful lot of people mistake it for Lux or Light, or a measure of, which is slightly frustrating.

And demon17, unfortunately I have an uncanny ability to smash initial impressions of myself that others have. I apologise in advance if I disappoint.

Welcome to gnet, Luxuria. I agree with Nephele. I love the screen name! Also, fresh starts are sometimes needed.

Ahoy. Err...I'm a young woman newly interested in the world of Gothic, but I can (in my own opinion) already consider myself a Goth. I love pirates and everything related to them, so my style could be described as Nautical Goth or Gothic Pirate. I'm hopelessly romantic, love the sea and (most ungothicly) sun. I listen to stories and write music...no, the other way round. Art is my life. I do some textile work now and then, laugh at weird jokes and eat lemons. That's the basics, hopefully you'll see me around.

Well, you'll certainly fit in 'round here! I'm often rocking the Art Deco and Modern in purple and black, myself. :-)
