Re: Best Dark/Horror movies of the 2000s!
I was lucky enough to be at the premier, and being a teeeny event in the middle of the day in Dublin, got to talk to the lead. She was really amazed at the reaction to the film and didn't seem to realise how good it actually is.

The graphics were very well done. I believe my favorite scene was when she was in the room being dressed and Gothed Out, basically. She looked amazing and the scene really drew me into the movie. After that point, I was engrossed.

I just remembered a few more, that I don't think have been mentioned : Brotherhood of the wolfPart horror, part martial arts action film, most people I've talked to about it, seem to think it was rubbish, but I loved it. Dog SoldiersSimply put : one of the, if not the greatest werewolf film('s) ever made. The BoxI can't really say much about it, without giving too much away, but I'll just say. I hate Cameron Diaz, so to recommend a film with her in it, is quite a big deal I'm sure more will come to me later

Gods, don't even get me started with "The Box". A confusing, inintelligible mess trying to explain something from the original Richard Matheson story that didn't need to be explained.
"Brotherhood of the Wolf", on the other hand, was pretty cool, a really scary and entertaining monster movie. Althought, in my opinion, the movie loses a lot of its momentum after they deliver the fake Beast to those guys.

I still think it's the best movie adaptation of a Richard Matheson story (a short story at that), to date *shrugs* Apparently Real Steel is based on another, and judging from the trailers...I don't think that opinion is going to change...

You mean Real Steel isn't Rock'em Sock'em Robots the movie?

That was my initial thought Apparently it's based on the short story "steel" though (which I haven't read)

Re: Best Dark/Horror movies of the 2000s!
"Real Steel" is another Matheson story that was originally a "Twilight Zone" episode before being turned into a movie. Only "The Box" was an episode of the 80s series, while "Steel" was an episode of the original 60s Rod Serling one.
I just saw "Real Steel" and...it was mediocre. Not great, but not horrible either. Just mediocre. I'll say this: considering Shawn Levy directed it, it could have been far, far worse. This may be the best movie Shawn Levy ever made, but that's not saying much. However, the ending will leave a sour taste in your mouth.
I stand by my opinion that "Twilight Zone" episodes should remain "Twilight Zone" episodes. Unless you do an anthology movie, like the 80s movie.
And, as my sources indicate, the original Matheson short story predates the "Rock Em Sock Em Robots" toy.

Re: Best Dark/Horror movies of the 2000s!
one of my favourite "darker" movies from the last decade would be Vidocq. Sorry, can't find sub-titled trailer, the movie is subbed though. It is a great combo of History, SiFi, Horror, Crime, Etc... And, one of my favourite Apocalyptica songs, Hope Vol.2 is featured on the DVD... I don't watch a lot of Horror, but I do enjoy psyco-drama/thrillers, most of which include a "darker" theme. Some of my favourites would include Memento, 21 Grams, Vanilla Sky, etc, etc... Also recommend: Number 2311:14Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless MindThe Virgin SuicidesI'm also with the previous post on MirrormaskFor the less psyco-thriller style, I've enjoyed Tim Burton directing Jonny Depp in Sweeny Todd and Sleepy Hollow... ...to many good ones to post I think...

Sleepless: I agree completely with Number 23. That was an eerie movie in its own right.

Queen of the Damned, I suppose...A lot of it was a bit cheesy for me, but the clothes kept me entertained.

I already said it twice in two different forums (one of them being this one) about how awful "Queen of the Damned" is, how much it destroys the original movie ("Interview With the Vampire"), and how it's one of the worst sequels of all time. But I respect your opinion.
