 Underworld Fans: Underworld 4?
There gets to be a point there too much of a good thing can often become a bad thing. I love the Underworld movies,. The first and second were great, the prequel- less so. Well I just found out that they are making a fourth Underworld movie called Underworld: Awakening.I'm not sure I want to see it. Apparently the gist of it is that Selene (played again my Kate Beckinsale) escapes a long imprisonment only to learn that the humans have discovered the existence of both Vampires and Lycans (big shock there) and all species are in an all out war. Hmm.. So let's get this straight. Long sleep...huge mutli-species war...and most importantly....long sleep = No hybrid Michael (No Michael at all, actually)...which let's face it, is half the reason I watched the movies...needless to say I'm extremely hesitant to see this one, espeically with the way the last one ended ( which made me assume that Selene, Michael, and the other vampires and lycans were 'cured'...) So do any of you plan on seeing this? What do you think about it?

 Re: Underworld Fans: Underworld 4?
I'll probably go see it, I really enjoyed the first 2 films. I'm guessing they won't have the leader of the lycans in this unless he's in flashbacks, he was probably my faveourite character. Seems odd to just ignore the whole hybrid thing given it was such a big deal in the first 2...

 Re: Underworld Fans: Underworld 4?
I saw a posting on Facebook about this from the Underworld page and kind of groaned. Loved the first movie, second was okay, prequel was just meh. But, if Kate Beckinsale is back and the story line is moving forward (as opposed to backward), I may think about seeing it. Depends. So many other movies I need to watch first, haha.

 Re: Underworld Fans: Underworld 4?
I loved the first film, I actually own the directors cut of it, I somewhat liked the second film, but I felt like it didn't really have as much substance as the first, and I didn't even bother with the third since it was a prequel.
I loved the first film, but that's all I really cared about in the series

 Re: Underworld Fans: Underworld 4?
I considered the first movie to be pretty epic and reasonably "fresh" when it comes to modern vampire tales. Although the story on a whole was not really original, I found the cinematography and style of the movie intriguing. Like most other movies I find this dynamic however, I found the sequels lacking. I do hope the new one can recapture the essence of the first film, although I hope for it, I don't usually expect it.
Underworld worked for me because of the actors, cinematography, music and display. If that can be brought back into the fourth movie, I would be most pleased.

 Re: Underworld Fans: Underworld 4?
As I said before, I've never seen any of the "Underworld" movies.
I missed the chance to see the fist one in theaters, I missed the chance to rent it, and I didn't watch the sequels/prequels because I've never watched the first one.
HOWEVER, I don't like what I see in this trailer. In my idea, bringing humans into the equation is a mistake. The war between vampires and Lycans should stay between vampires and Lycans. One of the (many) things I hated about "Blade: Trinity" was briging human authorities into the mix.

The first two are awesome, the prequeal- eh. No real complaints, I guess. I really don't like how the third one seems to completely deviate from the hybrid idea. As Milky said, it was a large part of the movies- it's why the movies happened. So- why get rid of that? From what I can tell Speedman isn't in the movie and there is no mention at all of Michael in the plot... A friend of mine suggested he might be in the movie via flashbacks- but that just kills the entire thing for me really, because of the relationship he had shared with Selene. It's like when they make a romantic movie, then make a squeal where the couple had broken up. It annoys me.

 Re: Underworld Fans: Underworld 4?
I don't consider "Daybreakers" a true vampire movie because the "vampires" in that movie have a scientific explanation behind them.
To me, vampires are purely supernatural creatures. They are beings of magic, not science. As such, I dismiss any movie that tries to explain vampires in scientific terms.
And before anyone says it, I KNOW that many people claim that the "Blade" movies do this. However, in the "Blade" movies it's merely hinted at, never outright stated like in "Daybreakers".

I'm oppisite of you, then. Being the scientific creature that I am, I love it when 'paranormal' things are explained in terms of science (which could also be known as Parapsychology)- that is why Wings in the Night series by Maggie Shayne is my favorite books ever- because she explains vampires in very scientific means, and it takes my breath away. Though Dabybreakers wasn't great- it was still moderately enjoyable that I remember. If I remember correctly my main compliant was that the female lead was rather shallow. As for the blade, as I already said- I liked the third movie best- so I cannot comment much on the first two being that I didn't care for them as much so I only watched them both once- and it was many years ago. Now back to the reason of this thread- Underworld 4. I'm still not convince that this will be a good movie. I really did love the series because of the hybrid theory. If they take that away then I fear it being just...an action movie with a common theme with happens to have vampires in it. The hybrid idea was interesting, but the war between all species. Less so to me, honestly. So I do not know if I am going to see it or not. If I do, I doubt I will go to to the movies to see it. I suppose it depends on what people here sa and what other friends say about it. I wish they hadn't changed the plot line- then I wouldn't be so torn.

 Re: Underworld Fans: Underworld 4?
I agree midi, when they bring a little science into it, it makes it more believable to me, and allows me to be caught up in the story more. I also agree about the hybrid thing, which, if I'm not mistaken, was completely unique to underworld, I would really like them to explore the new species more. I also enjoyed Blade 3, but then, I like Ryan Renolds

 Re: Underworld Fans: Underworld 4?
I like all those Saturday afternoon 'popcorn' movies. Dabybreakers could have been taken further, the fear that they could devolve was an interesting plot point to the blood shortage. I'd see U4, even if it was crap, Especially if the reviews said it was crap. I'm currently working my was through the Feast movies, glorious trashy films!

 Re: Underworld Fans: Underworld 4?
Being a Underworld fan, I do have both hopes and fears for this one. Movie plots, especially action ones, tend to thin out more with each sequel (or prequel) made until you get to a point where only the first and second movies are actully the only good ones left. And it leaves you, the poor viewer, scratching your head, thinking: "Wait, what? " (The Alien quadrology is an excellent example of this, you find few fans who actully like Alien 3 and A:Ressurection) Still, I wont judge this movie fully until I've seen it ofc. And if the story dont taste for me, then at least seeing Beckingsale in tight leather surley will My greatest fear is that the movie might suffer from what many other 4th sequels do: It strays off too far from the elements that made the 1st and 2nd movie senseable and that the 3rd movie usually skips or ignores completely, plus that it also introduces new elements that makes no sense whatsoever but is just there in an attempt to top the action level the previous ones had. Time will tell...

 Re: Underworld Fans: Underworld 4?
Alien 3 is underrated, and Aliens shows that sequels can be both completely different from the original and yet still be amazing. *takes his xenomorph fanboy hat off* Alien 4 on the other hand...

Have you seen the alternative version of A3? Quite a different beast gets facehugged. Nightwatch, you might want to see Whiteout for more gratuitous ass shots of Beckingsale. In fact, it was so obvious it detracted from the movie, real 4th wall wankfodder material.
