Post I like Lacuna Coil and Within Temptation what else is there?
I love Within Temptation and recently discovered Lacuna Coil, I'm looking for more 'happy' metal such as the Game by Lacuna Coil or Faster by Within Temptation. But I'm not sure where to look, any advice?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJkvaIWBrKc - The Game

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDJpf2mQ0w4 - Faster

WT is beautiful but often too depressing for when I have guests over and such. I'm not a very happy person, I don't need to feel worse! :)

What I like about metal is the energy in these songs, the strength if you get what I mean. I don't like boring songs or most slow songs, they depress me.

Well, I know that, personally, I don't think i have any music that could classify as 'happy'. I've got some up beat songs by bands who are normally dark, but I think that is about as far I go into happiness.

Hmm...are you wanting to stay purely in just the category of Metal music, or would you be willing to look at other genres as well? If so, that opens up more doors.

I will list (with links) songs that I feel are upbeat. Just know, though, that what is upbeat for me, may not be so for you, but I'll try. And for time's sake and not spending most of the day on this, I'm only listing one song per artist. If you wish to hear more from each artist, there is plenty on youtube.

Assemblage 23- Document (Echo Image Remix)

Avantasia: The Scarecrow

Blind Guardian: Turn The Page

Cruchan: Some Say The Devil Is Dead

Gothminister: Happiness in Darkness (You may not like this one, but his music is strong and I think it's happy....)

Nightwish: Forever Yours

Therion: Sons of the Staves of Time

Type O Negative: Cinnamon Girl

VNV Nation: Carry You (Sounds sad, but the message is very uplifting, as is most of their music).

Songs/Artists for other Genres:

Abney Park: Wake (Dream Mix)

Onigo Boingo: Dead Man's Party

Siouxsie and the Banshees: Spellbound

ThouShaltNot: If I Only Were A Goth (No, Voltaire does not sing this, despite popular belief, so I came to find out a long time ago)

Voltaire: Vampire Club (Twilight Version)

45 Grave: Riboflavin (Not sure how happy it is, but it is definitely very catchy...)

etc... etc...

I'd say if you like Within Temptation and Lacuna Coil, you might like Theatre of Tragety, Sirenia, and Nightwish as well. And for fun, look up Rasputina... You can also go to last.fm and see all the artists similar to the ones you like.

Yeah. most of what I listen to, even if the music sounds upbeat, has dark lyrics for the most part. Go figure. Well I tried and I hope you find what you are looking for. No doubt others can help you better!

I was gunna make a comment on 45 Grave there, midi, but you already stated about it not really being happy

Maybe you'll get some good results with the following bands:

-Living Colour (here's the one song they're known for, shame really because they have so many great songs Cult of Personality)

-Def Leppered - Check something out from the Pyromania album, or even the Hysteria Album, don't look into their new stuff though.....they went WAY down hill

That's all I can think of of the heavy metal that I consider "happy" and even Living Colour can get angry at times.

I've been a Lacuna fan for a while, myself, personally.

Damn, haven't heard they're new stuff, but I hope Def Leppard haven't produced utter crap.

Anyway, back on topic, it depends what you call 'happy'. What I think you mean by bands such as Within Temptation (of which I'm quite fond of) and Lacuna Coil (of which I'm not too keen on) is symphonic metal. Although it is a 'lighter' genre of metal, it carries a sort of 'melancholy' theme. Check out other symphonic metal bands, like Nightwish, or some of the other genres of music that has been previously mentioned.

Could try Aerosmith- they can be pretty upbeat. As can Bon Jovi.

Siouxsie and the Banshees have some songs that might be what you're looking for, albeit having dark lyrics. You could check out She's a Carnival, Hong Kong Garden and Cascade. Those songs aren't particularly dark and depressing.

Can't really think of any other artists/songs at the moment.

Hahaha, gotta love Voltaire. ;)

A very impressive compilation, Midi! (And everyone else.)

As for "happy metal"... I was also thinking of suggesting symphonic metal (as Deafening Silence here did). Therion is a favorite band of mine (although I wouldn't exactly call their music "happy").

Someone sent me a link to some Epica songs which I quite like but I find the choir disturbing. I love the growls in this song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jf7EmVjNQGE

But Tony Blair's voice and the choir ruin it for me.

And God the lead singer is so cuuuute. Wow. She must be an angel.

As for the others mentioned, I don't like Nightwish, I can't stand that woman's voice. Not sure why. I listened to some of the songs suggested here, most were too... Soft? I don't know how to describe it, I like it when it moves and erm... Explodes.

I have a few Epica songs, but like the two bands you are fond of (Within Temptation and Lacuna Coil) I'm not a huge fan. I like some songs by Within Temptation (such as Gothic Christmas) and I like only one song by Lacuna Coil. There are a few I like by Epica, but I've really strayed that all that music.

The metal I listen to is mostly Power Metal / Symphonic Metal (Kamelot, Avantasia, Nightwish, etc...) and some industrial (Gothminister, VNV Nation, etc...). I have really strayed from it though.

I still love my metal and I always will, but I've grown so much more and I love just about every dark genre and my heart will always be in the darker side of folk/pagan music.

At the end of the day, it's all preference! I do hope you take a look at last.fm. It can really help you.

I could suggest some metal/metal sounding tracks that have an upbeat rocking energy. (Let me know if you can't see the Youtubes, and I'll change the links to LastFM or something)

What are you after? Intense energy but not too emotional or depressing?

Type O Negative is good, t'ry Christian Woman' or 'I don't wanna be me'. (They also do a great cover of Black Sabbath - 'Black Mass, Satanic perspective'.)

These below are closer to the original metal, so you might not like the harder stuff. But have a taste.

Dio. Try Holy Diver and Don't Talk To Strangers.
Black Sabbath's Bark At The Moon.

Motorhead - Killed by death.

Other good bands -
Moonspell
Alice Cooper.
Metallica
Alien Sex Fiend
Rammstein
The Tea Party
Theatre Of Tragedy

Thanks! I will look them up, by the way I have a question, does this count as 'Heavy Metal'?

Not gonna get into a debate about whether it is heavy metal or not, but I'm leaning more towards classifying it as symphonic metal. Epica are quite good, but I wouldn't call them heavy metal.

I thought Ozzy Osbourne did that in his solo career, not with Black Sabbath. Maybe I'm just being picky though.

Bark at the Moon was Ozzy's third album after leaving Black Sabbath and the first to not feature Randy Rhoads on guitar (it has Jake E. Lee filling that space)

This thread deserves a mention of Warlock...... or Doro's solo albums for that matter.
