Post Any Preppers/Survivalists on here?
So out of curiosity are there any Preppers/Survivalists on these boards (other than me of course). For those of you who don't know "Prepping" is the term given to people/or the act of preparing for:End of the World as we know it(Armageddon,2012,or what not) ,Natural Disasters(down in Florida almost everybody had a box in case of Hurricanes),Self Defense (i.e. getting mugged),getting lost in the woods or sopmething like that,First Aid,or whatever else you feel the need to have an emergency kit/stash/hideout/vehicle/or what ever about.

I personally want to be completely self-sufficient (minus the God factor of course) and be living on my own homestead within the next decade and that is a form of prepping as well because when the grid goes out (either from say a storm or permanently) your good there. You also have your own food supply as well so that is a big bonus.Another thing I try to do is buy extra of things I use/eat so say when the Turnip Hits the Fan (better than saying "S*** hits the fan") I won't be in want,etc..

Okay,I'm starting to think that I'm not coming across in the way I'm trying to so sorry to sound kinda hockey about it.

Also I carry/bring with me practically everywhere is my Bug Out Bag.A Bug Out Bag is pretty much a bag filled with whatever you need/want to survive for 3 days without serious injury.

The main reason I'm even posting this here is that as a whole,we're kinda wacked out compared to..others (most "normal" people see no need nor want to even prep). Also the media has ill-portrayed prepping to be a couple of rednecks living in bunkers/compounds in the middle of no where who shoot any other humans on sight...How ever unfortunately that has actually happened on several occasions so we're a mixed bag of people. One thing though that has made "normal" people who don't care about anyone but themselves and immediate family want to prep is the whole 2012 BS (in my opinion that is,please by all means feel free to think differentially about that.Heck the only thing I fear would be an economic/national collapse from the masses panicking about it).

Anyhoo, this didn't come out as well as I wanted it to but I'm just curios about if there are any others on the site or those who are interested about it.

P.S.For those who are interested there is forum/blog for those in America but it contains a wealth of information that would interest anyone about prepping. Here is the URL

I must say- I am not.

I am one of those Floridians who you would see standing on the beach during a hurricane yelling "Bring it on!" and throwing huge hurricane parties (seriously guilty). I also happen to live in a part of Florida that does not get hit by hurricanes but every once in a blue moon. They come closer in recent years though, I must admit. But yeah- I have no hurricane preparedness stuff. I should- but I don't..

I'm preparing for the zombie plague, which we all know is coming.

The fact that I live within walking distance of three graveyards, though, is a bit counter-productive, I think.

I'm thinking about to prepare myself with a few dozend bottles of wine. People can live weeks without food but not without liquid. And wine becomes better by the time. But that's my problem. I would not wait for the catastrophy. So after a week or two after the shops are closed I would have serious problems. But I have a tent and a little sailing boat, so if the flood comes I don't have to climb the hills here.

Actually I once came across a website about prepping and I remember the comments on the page by apparent preppers really ranged from totally-reasonably sounding people to crazy "I'll kill you and take your food stash" type people. I wonder what the ratio is? maybe 70% normal people and 30% crazies. The only reason why I say "30%" is because as you said, "most normal people don't see a need..." I would say preppers are usually either very thoughtful, super-plan ahead type people, or super high-strung, anxiety-ridden, paranoid people (armed with riffles).

Considering all that I think prepping is a decent practice. I'm just not ready to commit to it full-out. I am also not in a financial / residential position to do so. However, I remember reading on the same website about "first-in, first-out" practices and some other good tips which I think are easily adoptable and applicable to daily life. Basically, I think that prepping is an extreme embodiment of efficient living. Also, if i were ever to go on a camping/hiking/at-sea/extreme trip, I would totally stock up on those emergency nutrition bars that have like 3600 calories per bar...cause you never know how long you might be lost, and those bars could easily go in a fanny or back pack.

I have interests in survivalism and have made preparations for disasters etc.

I keep a get out of dodge back next to my bed and in my car. I also have some basic supplies in my closet. I'm living with my family currently but when on my own I typically have more supplies set up such as canned food and water.

I don't bother preparing for the end of the world, though. Its wasted effort!

@SpiderBorn:Nice to see at least somebody with GOOD.I don't see the need for the end of the world entirely, just to a certain extent.

If I had the money, I would have preparations for when disasters happen. After going through Hurricane Katrina, I learned my lesson of being prepared very quickly. I'm all for surviving for as long I as can. I've accepted that I'm going to die one day, but it still scares the hell out me that I could die too early and be full of regret.

I don't really prepare for these sorts of things. I am from Houston originally, but we were on the west side, so the most we'd ever get from hurricanes was rain and some wind. I don't personally believe anything will happen at the end of 2012, and even if it truly is the end of the world...well, nothing will help you anyways, haha. And even though I live in an area that is supposedly ripe for tornado activity, I've actually never been that close to one. And supposing your house gets hit by one, there go all your stocked up goodies anyway. :|

I'm not, but my husband is. So I guess I've become one by proxy.

We went on a 50 mile drive and he brought a light bar for traffic direction. Just in case there was an accident on the side of the road and we needed to stop and help (which in all fairness we do stop when warranted. But still...). I guess when I think about it, most of our preparations are for Emergencies and not disasters.

But with a 712 sq foot apartment, where would we put it all? I'm already forced to store my sugar in my shoe closet....

Bwahaha! Be afraid. Be very, very afraid... For, when I rule the world, y'all will have to wear silly hats for my amusement.

Who suggests that the really careful preppers/survivalists here start stocking up on silly hats.

Yes, and I just joined this forum. I think that for the next few years we will see combinations of global problems, particularly chronic economic crisis, global oil production dropping, and the long-term effects of climate change.

Somehow, I also see connections between this and the idea of the gothic and a new dark ages.

I am a potential prepper...I just gather information, take care of what I know and..ok... I try to have some plans of what to do in different situations. I have a bf that keeps me above ground :D here and now...day by day...he actually think I'm silly...

But then I'm more afraid for a Zombie attack than anything so... that's a trigger. But it can be used to so many other situations so does it matter why...(?)
