Post Re: Goth/Gothic Quotes
This quote comes from an obituary I read today of a very interesting person.

Edith Fellows was a child actress in the late '20s and early '30s who had been abandoned as an infant by her mother. Her paternal grandmother raised her, and brought her to Hollywood where she was "discovered" by the film industry.

As soon as little Edith gained a bit of fame and fortune, her mother came looking for her, and sued for custody of Edith. It seemed that Edith's mother was really more interested in Edith's movie earnings, than in the child herself.

When 13-year-old Edith was asked to testify, here is what she said regarding her mother:

"I might be willing to be friends with her if she'd leave me alone, but I'm not used to loving strangers."

R.I.P. Edith Fellows, and cheers to the discerning little girl that you were.

You find the coolest things, Elphie! I like that quote. That's a very acerbic(justifiably so!) statement to come from someone so young.

"Because I'm a writer, I can think of more fancy methods. One idea I came up with is to hold a lottery, and the winner then gets the chance to kill a real killer. Not only does it put the law in the hands of the people, but it will also raise revenue. It will also give the people who always chant, 'kill them,' [a chance to] think twice about it, as now they're going to be one of the people who have to do just that."

-- Jeff Lindsay, author of Darkly Dreaming Dexter, when asked what killing method would he consider is the the best way to send someone off through capital punishment.

The only one I can think of right now is the obvious "Memento Mori" but one of my favorite quotes in general is (and I don't know who said it, google is your friend  ) "Well-behaved women rarely make history"

"I got away with blue murder, and loved every minute of it." -- Nancy Wake, when asked how she would like to be remembered.

I like to think of the above quote as being "gothic." But I especially want to pay homage to Nancy Wake, who died earlier this week (at the age of 98). She was an amazing World War II heroine.

Quote:
The Gestapo called her “The White Mouse” for the way she deftly avoided their traps...

Max Hastings, a British journalist and military historian, described her an “ardent warrior, possessed of an endless appetite for sensation.”

As her involvement in the war deepened, Ms. Wake was trained by the British to kill with her bare hands (she delivered a fatal karate chop to a sentry at an arms factory), parachute into enemy-held territory and work a machine gun.

She chomped on cigars and bested guerrilla fighters in drinking bouts. She traveled nowhere without her Chanel lipstick, face cream and a favorite red satin cushion.

“She is the most feminine woman I know until the fighting starts — then she is like five men,” a colleague in the French resistance once said...

Loved this!

"Children of the night. What beautiful music they make."

"Even a man who is pure of heart
And says his prayers at night
May become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms
And the full moon is bright."

Since this thread was creeping it's way into the round file, I think I'll put a bullet in it.
