I came across This article .

What do you think of it?
I myself consider the "almost falling pants" a cringe worthy fashion statement. But since there are so many thousands who like them, it can't be all wrong, right?

But is it worth having trouble with the law, just for the sake of being dressed with the "in" thing at the moment?

As a side note, I also truly believe that the "tendencies" in fashion are decided solely by the fashion designers. If they say "this is what people wear right now", then it automatically has to be true.

I imagine just about everyone's seen this by now, but I figure it's worth an encore.

I found the dress code for US Airways on their website:

Quote:
We require that all passengers traveling on AD75 dress in casual business attire. US Airways gate agents are instructed to enforce this dress code, and passengers who fail to dress appropriately may be denied boarding.

It's not prominently displayed, and I had to do a search for it, where I found it under their "Agent Discounts" information page. US Airways isn't clear about whether that rule applies for all passengers on their airline, as well as all passengers "traveling on AD75."

While I agree with "General" Larry Platt's song about "lookin' like a FOOL with your pants on the ground," I'm also kind of inclined to think that US Airways way too easily turns a fashion statement into a fascist statement.

I think it's worth avoiding US Airways, which is a crap airline, anyway.

What exactly is AD75? I couldn't find a definition using google.

I can kinda, almost, short-of see why an airline might take this position. If the people at the top writing the policies have been around in the industry long enough they can probably remember when people would actually dress up to go on a plane. Now most fliers wouldn't look any lazier if they showed up only wearing those snuggies & crocs. Perhaps, to them, seeing people flying in pj's or baggy jeans around their ankles infuriates them the way some theatres react when some people dress in pj's to go to the opera.

But its pretty hard on the airline's part to suddenly want to start caring about this considering how long its been since it was normal to dress in business attire to fly. Why let it go on for so many years before suddenly deciding a dress code should be established & enforced? It also doesn't seem fair to enforce a dress code that's so hard to find. It's unreasonable to assume their customers would know it even exists. It's terrible customer service to suddenly pull someone off a flight for something that they had no possible way of knowing was against the company's policy. That's just not nice. If they really want to stop people from dressing casually they need to go out of their way to get the policy publicized long before enforcing it. Meaning ad campaigns, notices stabled to the tickets, emails to people who buy tickets online.

I wish I could find AD75 too - seeing that the definition of "business casual" as I understand it would forbid wearing of jeans. My coworkers and I cannot wear jeans at work except for on "casual Fridays". The airline peeps would have to send most people away. :?

It's US Airways' own code for their agent discount, coupon-free program.

And, yes, I agree that what they do (and fail to do) is terrible customer service.

I think that most of these dress code "violation" news stories that we see cropping up nowadays involving airlines and trains can be attributed to overly zealous employees indulging in their personal umbrage.

Watching the video of Deshon Marman on the plane, I also got a real uncomfortable feeling seeing two white US Airways employees hassling a black passenger about how he was dressed.

I did some googling and I think you're on to something here.

This is clearly not "business casual" but US airways didn't use any hidden dresscode policy to have the person arrested.

At least one spokesman [quoted in the above link] said:

Quote:
"We don't have a dress code policy," Wunder said. "Obviously, if their private parts are exposed, that's not appropriate. ... So if they're not exposing their private parts, they're allowed to fly."

I am starting to suspect the people who bothered Deshon Marman didn't even know about the double-secret AD75 dress code policy.

I'm reminded of the lyrics from a song
Quote:
my pants sag low (low)
even though (though)
that went out of style like ten years ago (go)

That amusement aside, if someone tried to arrest me or kick me out of something just for my clothes I don't think that I would be too willing to go along with it either.

Well, this is probably not a good sign if they weren't bothering him over the dress-code.

I agree people should make an effort to leave the house (like getting out of your pj's and putting clothes on) but flying isnt the most comfortable of things to be doing and surely allowing your customers to feel comfortable while they fly is essential?
