Thanks for that! I'm having a tough time trying to decide which of the nine mansions I'll take! -- Nephele

 Re: Creepy Abandoned Mansions
Heyy!! Mind reader! I was thinking of posting that! Thanks for doing so. I ran a search on that Mudhouse place and saw conflicting stories, some saying that the owner is a nasty woman who loves to catch intruders and press charges. Yes, of course you'd want to prevent vandalism, etc. but it claims here that she doesn't let ANYONE visit (when they ask for permission), and people who manage to get pictures land in big trouble! At the same time, how were those pictures taken at all? And then here's an account that contradicts the "mean old lady" story go to the bottom of the page. I can certainly say that reading all of those accounts is entertaining, true or not.

I can certainly say that reading all of those accounts is entertaining, true or not. I don't think those stories conflict at all. From the sound of it she's perfectly fine talking to people who grew up in her neighborhood or whose immediate family did. But any "outsiders" get a rough reception because of all the problems they've had with theft, arson, and vandalism. They probably assume that all the problems they're having are from the tourists and they're probably right about that. That seems to be a pretty common theme for these sorts of places even before sites like abandoned but not forgotten came on. Then once those sites started becoming popular it made it too easy for those who want to destroy things to find out about cool places. I see a lot of people on abandoned structure-type sites & forums say "I know of this one place but I won't talk about it on the internet because I know as soon as I do some idiot is going to go there and destroy it." The pictures themselves? I'd bet a pile of money that they were taken illegally by trespassers. The vast majority of interior-shots you see from places like this online were not taken with permission.

 Re: Creepy Abandoned Mansions
Meaning that even if an outsider asks perfectly politely about taking pictures, she will be suspicious because of all the past intruders "why should you be any different?" although if anyone takes pictures and posts them (even if they asked her for permission), it's additional publicity, which of course would cause even more trouble.

 Re: Creepy Abandoned Mansions
Thanks for the links Whenever I try to look up "abandoned mansion" on google images, it keeps showing Tiger Woods' abandoned mansion Wow, I'm surprised I haven't heard of the Mudhouse Mansion! It's not too far from where I live. It's a gorgeous place :O Too bad people can't get access to it; I wonder why the Masts are so secretive/protective of it? The pictures of the inside look downright creepy! *chills* Next time I'm down by Lancaster I should ask some locals about some of the legends! That'll sure be interesting.

Heck, the Kimball Castle is just down the road from me. I may try to go take some pics; it's a pretty impressive building. Thanks for the link, Ms. M!

 Re: Creepy Abandoned Mansions
I showed my friend Mudhouse and she says it's probably like 10 minutes away from her grandmas house and that we should go #__# I really want to but with the tight security...We'll be properly equipped. We'll definitely make plans to go down there this summer. Less than an hour's drive I can't help but look up more abandoned Ohio locations, even though most of them aren't mansions it's still kinda on topic, haha. Here's the Franklin Castle in Cleveland "In a small room at the rear of the house a pile of baby skeletons was found" .... It's a neat looking place though.
