 Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan
Author Message
Post Re: Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan
Well said, Centurion.

The other thing which sickens me out here is the way that the press - far from being concerned about the souls lost and suffering - is now starting to moan about "disruption to the supply chain". Awwww... Some fat pig's comfortable import/export business may go bust. Well, bully for him/her - I'm sure that they'll find another country to leech off of. There are thousands upon thousands of people, PEOPLE, in Japan, who'd give everything they own just to be safe at this moment, and they've lost far more than a "supply chain".

Vultures.

My good friend Kenji(and one of my longest-time friends in Japan) produced a free song for the people of Tohoku.

Worse is all this fear and panic the disaster is spreading, with people selfishly and fearfully scrambling to strip the shelves in every supermarket of supplies(which need desperately to go to the survivors of Miyagi more than anything), as well as the exodus of foreigners out of Japan.

There's no way in hell I'm leaving my friends and loved ones, and in fact, will be performing this weekend in homage of the victims of this catastrophe.....
The world needs music right about now!!!

And my dear Christian Evangelists.......
This is NOT the apocalypse, nor is it a message from god punishing my country for its heathen ways....
The apocalypse, if not caused by a global nuclear war, or a global seismic catastrophe, will naturally come about when our sun eventually goes nova. It will neither involve Horsemen, nor Jesus, nor any kind of Divine Judgement upon this species that is relatively young compared to the age of the earth.
THIS is an EARTHQUAKE, this is a TSUNAMI, this is a NUCLEAR MELTDOWN, NOT the apocalypse!!!
All 3 have happened in the span of our history, and all 3 have happened far worse, and we have survived them.
As rough as this weekend has been, we will survive this too, our heathen ways be damned!!!

Much respect Man!

I was always fascinated by Japan, its hard working people and culture. They really didn't deserve this catastrophe. I really hope that everything will end well.

And Centurion, good luck. As LS said, much respect!

I agree, very awesome of Centurion

Your post is something that I agree with Minnie. In truth, I HAVE thought about economy, but in terms of how Japan, not others, will be affected by this on an governmental and economical stand point.

I heard a man in my class say that Japan deserved it because they should have known not to build any power plants there and if they wanted energy they should have used natural resources. I don't think I've ever heard anything so cruel in my life.

After the catasrophy everybody is wiser. There are 50 heroes fighting for their people. They have still 2 days time to gain control again. After friday no human beeing can work in that nuclear hell any more, because the water in the fuel cooling installation of reactor 4 will be vaporized. It was to dangerous with helicopters, now they try to stop that with water guns. Its really not a question of economy, but of survival. People in the destroyed regions are hungry and freezing.

I see nothing wrong with worrying about how this effects the world economy, and supply lines along with the tragic loss of life. Our world is interconnected and it could have wide ranging impacts on everyone. If anything bringing those things into the discussion wakes people up to the fact that they SHOULD care because it could affect their own lives. Whether one likes it or not, we feel more for those we can "relate" to then those we cannot. Which is why you can lose a loved one and it will bother you for months, while thousands can die in Japan and while you may mourn them it will not hit you in quite the same way.

It might become the worst nuclear catastrophy the world got to suffer. (I hope not) Millions of people are in danger. About what you want to talk, about the sinking prices for oil? I like cynism, but not in situations like this, while other people are dying. How do you would feel in the hospital fighting for your live while others discuss what to do with your life assurance?

I didn't say that, I said people sometimes need a link to an event in order to be empathetic. I think you completely missed my point. It is hard for people to wrap their minds over tragedies like this unless there is something that links it to their lives. I am talking basic human nature. I am not condoning it but I am being honest with human nature. An event like this through various links to our own lives can also cause others to be MORE empathetic, realizing how connected we all are, especially in this world.

I fail to see how that is being cynical. It is how this world is, and always has been. The same thing happened when the Jews were being murdered by the millions, most didn't give a crap beyond "I feel sorry for them" until there was an event to connect them to the situation causing them to be more empathetic (WW2 being that link, heck just the fact the Nazi's were taking over nations left and right should have been reason enough for a country like the US involved but it wasn't). I could give various other examples, such as nations where innocents are getting slaughtered, while people care many don't care enough to do anything about it because they have their own lives.

My heart goes out to the people of Japan, it is mind blowing what happened. But sometimes to motivate others to help you need to link them to the events. Is it self centered? You bet. Is it sad? Definitely. Is it the reality of things? Unfortunately yes.

I've been watching the news regarding the nuclear meltdown and I worry so much for the people there.

Actually, people didn't believe that the Jews were being exterminated in Germany, at that time. It wasn't until Eisenhower went over and investigated the situation and saw it for himself(and reported it as fact) that people really believed. Until then the whole world believed nothing at all was going on and the Nazis were being slandered by Jews. Even Vincent Price admitted to believing the Nazi propaganda(to his shame) as well as many other Americans.

BUT this is neither here nor there.

This is about Japan and the tragedy the people over there are going through.

I don't want do bother you DarkPhoenix11.
Just let them imagine they are working in the nuclear plant in Fukujima. After one hour you have got the letal dose. I think everybody can imagine dying. Might be some are missing empathy but there are strong social norms to keep that under control. I'm thinking very normative in this way.

I have a friend of a friend whose father is a missionary for her church and he is in Japan right now. He is okay though and helping the people who aren't as lucky. I feel so sad just thinking about this. When it happened I was going shopping. I was shopping while dozens of people drowned. It's a horrible thing to think about.

I think many can sympathize with this. We are all wrapped up in our own lives and can feel guilty for being 'survivors' even when we are not remotely involved. I would assume such a feeling would be natural.

And I agree with Wolfie that this isn't about the Nazis.

What happened was a natural phenomenon and what followed was nothing less than a tragedy. I haven't heard any more on it for a while (no tv), so I need to look online for more updates.

I send everyone helping and all the victims my deepest blessings and support, even if just mental.

One thing about the media coverage that is bothering me is in regards to what exactly is happening, especially the nuclear plant. I've read reports the nuclear plant is about to have a meltdown (as others have said it is frightening and horrific to think of that happening) to it being close to being stabilized (The one I hope is the truth).

I wish I could do something more, whether it is volunteer or offer more financial assistance to a charity, but with my health and current finances there isn't much I can do besides pray and hope for the best and that the people will recover.
