Long story short, the most reliable source where I found it is a book about the sectio aurea, then I found it again on a website about the same subject and the nuns that raised me told me that too, so now we have the sources, let's get to the meaning:
Apparently in ancient idish everything had two names what I called a public name (meaning currently used and widespread among the population) and a secret one (meaning noone was supposed to know it or pronounce it) according to this theory the secret name was supposed to bear the power to control the thing or being it belonged to.

Two of my sources are quite reliable, the third I don't trust, if only I could find a third reliable source the process of finding proof to turn an hypothesis into a theory would be complete.

Wow, but isn't that from Roman times? Jews have 2 names, a Hebrew name and one in the language of the country they live in. Its best to name your child with a Biblical name or to have a equivalent for the Hebrew language i.e Leo = Ari... Like in the United States, you have David Silverman, but his Hebrew name can be דויד then you have 'son of' בן. If his dad is Jacob Silverman, then the kid's full name will be דויד בן יעקב David ben Ya'aqob = David son of Jacob...

Not everyone does it like this, but this is the formula used 80% of the time when naming a boy at their brit milah (Circumcision/Naming Ceremony) Girls just get a Zeved habat (Naming Ceremony)...

Hebrew names are used on all Jewish documents and paper work, from Your Birth to Death. We dont keep the name hidden though... My family destroyed all of these documents (in fear of being caught by the nazi) It had to be done... At least i have the old family manorah ... so I guess i am happy, but still, you want these documents to show your kids and grandkids...

I'm best at Japanese, really. I read , litsen to ,and watch so much Japanese stuff that not expanding my knowledge of it is practically impossible.

Note on what Puck said. des, is said more like dess(you know that sssnake S ^^) But, you seem good with japanese!(only learning it on the web/with anime, music, television? )

Anime will only teach you 14 ways to say, "I will destroy you" in Japanese sadly...

Television and J-rock/pop are the best ways actually... The reason why I know a little bit of everything is because I threw myself head first and learn the words, once I did that, I learned the grammar and I started building sentences... And since most newspapers. TV and radio stations are online now, you can practice your understanding and reading...

Japanese is not that hard from the last time I have seen it, Chinese and Japanese have easy grammar, compared to French, German, Russian, and Polish...

Yeah, but reading kanji is hard!(As there is more than 6000 kanjis and everybody can create one ^^) And for the anime thing, it's ain't really that, I don't talk about mainstream anime like naruto, there's alot more animes(other than hentai and ecchi's) that can help you to pronounce better and learn japanese ^^(And there's books named ''learn japanese with anime/manga'' xD)

You only need to learn more or less 2000 kanji characters to read an average daily newspaper in your whole lifetime... In Japan, Kanji is becoming less common, Hiragana and Katakana is more common... I know a guy who doesn't really know kanji that well, and he lives in Japan just fine... Its best to learn all 2000-3000 to be ok, but Kanji is not as important as it is to learn Hiragana and Katakana, because without these 2, your pronunciation of kanji will be off and incorrect...

In china 4-6000 characters is well enough (or more then enough) for daily use, as for 7-8000 characters if your a doctor or a lawyer because of terminology...

The disadvantage of chinese and kanji is the writing system, but the grammar is a HUGE advantage, Chinese is a better advantage for an english speaker because of the word order, but its a problem with the tones...

Chinese = I like apples
Wǒ xǐhuan píngguǒ

Japanese =I apples like
Watashi wa ringo ga suki

As you can see, Japanese has a little more grammar, but its easier to pronounce... While Chinese has simpler grammar and is harder to pronounce i.e the tones...

Both have a latin script of some kind. Pinyin for Chinese and Romaji for Japanese. I think they should be standardized and made official with their own alphabets, like on the side. it will make it a hell lot easier to write things on a computer, because Its a pain to write chinese and kanji on a computer...

As for Anime, I am a big fan of InuYasha, Tri-Gun, Cowboy Bebop, ect... but I do realize that people need to know that watching Naruto does not improve your Japanese, because there are things that have no real meaning in Japanese, so maybe you think your saying a cool catch phrase, but in reality your gonna look like a fool because it has no meaning...

Or when people use stereotypical phrases that come out of shows like that... (like when people say eh after every sentence to make fun of Canadians)

"Ah So" is one of them, it means "Oh I see.." but it should be used with caution by non Japanese "Gaijin" because it might insult some people... You can use it, but dont say it all the time because then people will think you making fun of them...

"Nigga" is another one, in china the way a person says "hmmmmmmmmm" says "Nigggggggggggaaaaaaaaaa"... They get really annoyed when people do that a lot. They will think you are an airhead...

You can learn the things you see on Anime and these cartoons, just dont over do it and research the meaning because it can end up insulting people... just a piece of advice...

I am a native English speaker, but I know enough French to get by if I was dropped in the middle of France and had to find my way back to civilization.

I also know a teensy bit of Spanish, but not enough to hold a conversation. I really wish I had learned this, however, since I love in the Southwest and it's the second largest language used in the US.

With any luck, I can get Henry into a school where they teach him several languages. I try to say things in French and English when I know the actual translation, but those phrases/words are too few and far between to really do him any good.

I never had the luxury of a language school, i mainly taught my self... but I am glad to see that you are taking such an important initiative in the development of a foreign language for Henry...

That's not true! You also learn "Baka!"

I prefer watching anime to listening to most of the music Japan has to offer.
