Edinburgh, on the north side. I used to walk to Dalkeith on a Sunday morning.

I remember seeing the seals and porpoises on my way to the Orkney ferry (to visit relatives). Very cool, except for the ferry itself. I was rather seasick.

 Re: Whitby outside WGW
Apologies for reviving this thread; however, I was in Whitby again yesterday and, as it's not yet goth weekend, I took the opportunity to follow up on a promise I made to Terscha in November ( ) and got some photos from around the town. Michelle and I also spent some time at the Abbey on this occasion, and we got lots of photos. I'll be sharing as many as I possibly can, but I wanted to start off by posting this one. While we were in the Abbey, we happened upon a guy doing a natural-light photoshoot. Naughty as it may be, I took a few photos myself, and having done some editing on it, I'm rather proud of this one: The Spirit of Gothic Romance Later on, I'll post the original as well for comparison purposes.

Thank you! However, you've asked the question I should have tried to preclude in my previous post... I honestly don't know. If I did, I'd certainly give her a credit! She noticed me taking photos, and although she was doing what the photographer was asking, I think - seeing that I was clearly a goth - she actually made a little more effort for me... Here's an edited version of another photo which I liked a lot. More Gothic Romance...

I like the first one a lot, the colours play together great. I'm really curious about the original.

Wow, it's so different! I think the effect is stunning ^_^ Does it take a lot of work? The second one is very nice too, but... I prefer this one

 Re: Whitby outside WGW
Not really! It only takes a little preparation and forethought - but then, that's a little like arranging music. There are a few techniques which can be used in pretty nearly any decent photo editor which, once you've learned them, can turn an ordinary photo into something quite attractive. It takes a little practice, but what helps are a strong feel for, and knowledge of, the iconography of the subject matter you're aiming for (in this case, what makes a picture look "gothic"), and good - high resolution - source material. I was using Michelle's new camera (she's not confident with it yet), and it has to be admitted, it gives excellent, crisp, detailed results, and at huge pixel sizes (this photo was taken at a resolution of 768 x 1024).
