 Re: The Relationship Thread
That blog seems to have a chauvinist or at least somewhat anti-Sexual Revolution slant. I don't like that. As it looks like it's a woman writing it I think it's doubly terrible. All these weird women who reinforce chauvinistic male views are damaging the work Feminism does.

 Re: The Relationship Thread
Ailahh wrote: The way a mate compared (I will not call him my ex because that makes it seem like he isn't a person etc. so I will call him B) B to M: Quote: "It's like getting rid of a grammaphone for a CD player." Metaphoric, and yes, people point out "CD players are cheap and Chinesse" and that some people like the sound of a grammaphone. But you kinda get the gist... Grammaphone, in the past, CD player, more current, generally considered "better" and all that But I do not care how flawed it is, I thought he was pretty clever to come up with that... though personally I think M is more an iPod, iPod Touch, iPad etc. in comparison to the grammaphone So I learnt what not to do, is the main point, I just thought I should point out my mate's cool metaphor. I really don't like that metaphor. I suppose I am just old fashioned and I don't like to compare people to object that you no longer like. Human should have more respect. Even if we utterly hate the person, I think its mean to compare them to something you deem as worthless. And the sad thing is, I've seen a lot of this lately. For example on facebook a bunch of 'friends' (don't think anyone here 'liked' it though, said 'I don't get mad when I see my ex with someone else because I was told to give my used toys to the less fortunate." That just pissed me off. Comparing someone you once cared about to a used toy for someone less worthy than yourself? Get over yourself already. Seriously. Just because it didn't work out with you doesn't make anyone evil or wrong or less fortunate or anything. It just means that between the two of you it didn't work. I guess what I am saying is that we should have more respect for past relationships, myself included. (Not directed at you, Ailahh, this has just been a long time in coming in general!)

The rest of the blog I cannot comment on as its all up for grabs and I respect an individuals choice. The view from the blokes perspective on that specific entry is about right though. With equality its a pisser to be expected to act like a man of old and do all the approach, chasing, and sometimes even pedestalisation to get attention. We all have to adapt to the new social environment and approach as equals.

We all have to adapt to the new social environment and approach as equals. I guess I don't understand the idea that some men have that a woman expects to be treated a certain way. As long as I'm treated with respect I tend to do the same. I have always absolutely refused to hide my sexuality just to snag a man, though. That is something that seems to be implied; that men want to cat around, but don't act like their equal and do it yourself if you ever want things to get serious! That sends a completey wrong message, in my book. No one should have to pretend to be Donna Reed just to snag a husband, especially if their personality is more Bettie Page! Hiding one's sexuality is wrong no matter how you look at things. I'm not saying go around flaunting the numbers of lovers you've had in front of your SO, but don't pretend that you're a missionary girl if you're really 'woman-on-top'.

 Re: The Relationship Thread
Good for you Wolfie. The real point of the article is to get each other not assuming what the hopes, desires and outlook of the other is. Any article like that (that promotes stereotypes) is a good jumping off point to really talk about things. If you can't talk (treading on eggshells experience) then its an indicator that things are not going to work out.
Too few really know what is going but trust to luck or proclaim "All men are bastards"/ "all women are bitches" without understanding their own motivations, needs and desires as well.

 Re: The Relationship Thread
Im jumping in late but I do find that the facebooks quotes about break ups tend to be cruel and not right. I try to stay friends with my ex's eventhough I know it will be weird, and i dont care if they move on to someone else because we didnt work out so lets fix the broken hearts and learn from the past.
I did find the LDR things helpful and put some things to ponder in my mind because I may soon ask my friend from Texas (Im in Florida btw) to be my girlfriend, so thanks everyone about it.

GlennWills wrote: I respectfully disagree. Sometimes failed relationships do way more damage than someone dying. My argument is simply thus - when someone breaks your heart, at least you know they are still out in the world somewhere. And eventually you will meet someone new and move on. When someone you love dies, there is no replacing them. Just passing days that make it a little less painful, but never really heal you entirely.

It can get awkward, some would get quite stand-offish or bitchy if I was starting to date someone new, doubly so if they were single at the time. I only see two of them anymore though, I just drifted apart from the rest.
