 Holiday decorations?
Anyone decorating for the holidays? If so...traditional or....
I decided this year I'm doing a goth Christmas, and I don't care what anyone says!! I have a black tree, purple lights, purple and black garland, and red decorations. Add a few bats here and there, a few Jacks, and we should be set. Oh, and the black garland spider web I picked up at Halloween (well, most of the stuff I picked up at Halloween).
Thetree is a small tree, and my husband thinks I should decorate it with my "string doll" collection to see what people will say. I'm so tempted....

String dolls sound interesting. What are they?

I'll be putting up my pink Christmas tree, decorated with antique glass ornaments and black bats. The tree

This was the complete set: http://compare.ebay.com/like/2904899140 ... 602_304662I have the little guy with the red cape, one each of the pony-tailed girls, and two each of the black ones. They seemed to have disappeared before I got the whole set. Looking around eBay, I may be able to buy a whole set from there at some point. LG - Beautiful tree!!! I saw some hot pink ones in the store yesterday, but opted for the black one. Here's a picture of my little tree so far: http://i872.photobucket.com/albums/ab28 ... b3efd0.jpgDifficult to tell, but the lights are purple. Need to find some Jacks for it, now. I still need to do the garland around my desk, maybe with the hot ping lights mixed in...don't know yet.

Those are cute! Yes, put the dolls on the tree!
I like y'alls trees. We were drooling over the purple ones. One day we'll have a living room big enough for a tree.

I have one of those string dools. The one with the pumpkin like head. I've named him Victor.

 Re: Holiday decorations?
I'm having xmas with my brother in Germany - so no choice over decorations. Might take my black rubber rat though it has red eyes and the cats can play with it.

 Re: Holiday decorations?
My mom is Christian (sorta) and decorates a bit. No tree though, other than Douglas Fir (a talking tree). She has a wreath that she's getting ready to put up, one she made a few years back.
I don't have Chanukah decorations - not to mention I'm too lazy to decorate. I don't even light the menorah (not really a decoration per se, but anyway) out of fear my crazy cats will set themselves on fire. Which means I have to stare at it until it burns out.

We make a small concession because of Michelle's traditional background, but I could happily live without - this time of year was all about arguments and unpleasantness when I lived with my family, so I don't have fond memories.

I feel the same way. I have fonder memories of spending Hanukkah with my Jewish friends than I ever had about Christmas. Christmas was always "political" in my family. I do like Christmas lights, though, and I have a string of purple lights that I bought one Halloween that I always put up. And I like medieval Christmas music/chants because it sounds eerie late at night with only the lights blinking and/or candles. Though I'm careful with the candles, as the kittycats might get too curious.

 Re: Holiday decorations?
I want to do a Goth christmas, but can't since I'm living with my grandmother.
Next year though I hope to have my own place and do a black and red theme (black tree only red lights and ordiments, with skeltons, etc..) red and black garland, etc... yeah. It will look awesome.
As it is, this years is traditional and only a tree.

 Re: Holiday decorations?
Love, love, love!
My husband and I go on a wild tour of our various families over the holidays, so we don't do it up as big as I hope we will one day. We also have one of those hot pink trees (yay), and some funky-colored string-covered balls (the turquoise are my faves). I also have the darlingest little manger scene that I bought at Ross for about four dollars--it's ceramic and all the faces, including the cow and sheep, are very cute.
The hard-core decorating comes at my parents' house, though--they do outside lights, a big tree (they have 10-foot ceilings), and other various wreaths and such. Their manger scene is an heirloom--the figures are hand-carved, with all the usual players plus a camel and "the crazy shepherd" (he's running, and holding up this weird little dowel like he's about to hit someone; he always goes farthest from the child, hehe). The barn was hand-carved by my great-grandfather, and I think it's mahogany. It has a hole in the back where an old-fashioned Christmas light can be insterted; on the outside is a carving of a star. I could go on and on and on and on, but just one more thing: my grandmother made all of these awesome Christmas birds in many different colors of felt. Each one is different. Their tails are feathers, and they wear feather headdresses; their wings are sewn with sequins; their eyes are also sequins. I really oughtta take some pics--they are fabulous.

 Re: Holiday decorations?
I made a yule themed wreathe that's blue and silver. My tree itself is normal green, with pink and blue lights. My decorations are pink, typical Yule/Xmas stuff like deer (I love deer decor for the holidays, I don't know why), black ball ornaments, and the bats I made last year. Oh, and we have an owl tree topper instead of a star or an angel...I think it needs more bats. Oh, and though I'm not Christian and would prefer not to have a nativity scene lying around, my fiance gets a kick out of our rubber duck nativity...ours is essentially this but we have lots more "animal" ducks he adds to it. http://www.tackytreasures.com/seasonal/rubberduck.html

 Re: Holiday decorations?
Our tree is pretty traditional, only half decorated right now. I have all white lights, green tree (where do you buy a black tree?)and ropes of twisted gold silver and green twined through the branches. My tree is always loaded with ornaments as people buy me one almost every christmas. Front and center is a see through heart with " love forever " engraved on it. i have a homer and marge simpson under the mistletoe. (supposed to be me and my husband) and I bought a Mr and Mrs Santa at a garage sale..... Its actually pink and cream instead of the usual red. the rest of my ornaments are either ones my children or grandchildren made for us over the years.
my sister bought me handmade tin icicles which reflect the lights beautifully.
