Re: The Various Goth Subsets: Do they REALLY Exist Nowadays?
As a musician (okay, not professional, and never likely to make money doing it) - and I believe I've said this before - please respect whatever musicians DO get out in the way of income from their art. While I realise it's a bummer when funds are scarce (strangely enough, that affects older adults as well!), please download music from legal sources. It might be worth researching music providers to establish which are "ethical" (eg, providing a worthwhile percentage to the artist). And, I'd hate to see gnet ever get rapped on the knuckles for ever appearing to advise people to infringe/ignore copyright...

I will Limewire to see if the (legitimate) album is worth getting, and then buy that when I have the funds. However, avenues for buying decent music here are pretty slim..unless you really like Justin Bieber.

I don't have any moral objections to it.

You know, I haven't used it recently, so I was completely unaware they shut down. >.>

However, avenues for buying decent music here are pretty slim..unless you really like Justin Bieber. Kinda hard to Limewire stuff when it's been shut down... Well I simply assumed if mp3 Rocket was so bad they'd have found a way to shut it down, considering it IS a payed service ($50 for unlimited downloads and free upgrades forever). Unfortunately there is NO decent music stores in this area, unless, as kitten-in-a-casket said you REALLY like Justin Beiber. As well as that, I'm broke. If a CD is over $10 I can't afford to spend the money, not saying I can't afford anything over $10, but I can't afford to spend $20 JUST on a CD, especially if I don't know the band is any good. Though my wikid skillz* once predicted Mudvayne's "A World So Cold" would be good, as I saw it in Kmart, never having heard them before, I looked at the song names and album art and thought it might be good, got home, after sadly deciding NOT to buy it, mp3 Rocketed away and found out I should have bought the damn CD. Also being a musician I would love to support the artist, but it's almost impossible due to location and funding. *Yes, had to explain the spelling. It was one of those "LOLcats" things I think it said: "Wikid vampire skillz, I haz dem" -- Fri Oct 29, 2010 6:37 pm -- Wolfmammy wrote: Pirate bay But you see to get there I search uTorrent and it comes up with all the torrent results for it, Pirate Bay is just one of many results that appears in this search o' mine, but probably the most trusted not to give me viruses -- Fri Oct 29, 2010 6:41 pm -- OH and in regards to Limewire, apparently it was really bad for your computer, the computer guy got rid of it for us but told us mp3 Rocket was ok and it was fine to keep using it. And apparently Limewire was full of porn aswell, a friend of a friend downloaded a music video with a provocative title. Turns out it wasn't a music video and this happened several times whilst trying to download music etc. Steam is apparently OK according to my little bro. I spose I've always figured "They don't shut it down, their problem"

Oh I know. I actually laughed when I read it. Limewire may have been shut down, but google wasn't. Oh I know. I actually laughed when I read it. Limewire may have been shut down, but google wasn't. What I meant was: Limewire is a browser and search engine for the gnutella network. There are many, many browsers out there for that network. So disabling limewire would be like making all firefox users switch to opera. Sometimes these record industry groups really leaves me scratching my head. Do they even have a strategy to deal with piracy or is it all misguided haphazard "lets sue everyone and hope some of it sticks"?

I was a Limewire person so not having it really sucks since I cannot afford to buy music.

Actually, at this time, I genuinely think that's a mentality which exists, yes. Dealing with the law on matters such as copyright is as slippery as keeping up with the technology itself; Industry finds one way of using the law to get one over on pirates; pirates strike back by finding another loophole in the law, which Industry tries to close... Et cetera. I think you all know how this song goes.

I don't know why they bother. It's the fucking internet. People are always gonna find a way to pirate; the record companies are just wasting their time, IMHO.

Re: The Various Goth Subsets: Do they REALLY Exist Nowadays?
It's not downloading that's the problem, it's the problem that people stop buying.
I download stuff all the time, even stuff I ALREADY HAVE, but I ALWAYS buy at least 3 CDs a month, from my local goth, metal, or experimental music CD shops, and while I know not everyone has the luxury of living in the city, as I used to live in the country, there's still gallons of mailorder sites out there deserving of your support!!
So download to your hearts content!! I download out-of-print, rare, vinyl/tape/demo stuff limited to 666 copies on a daily basis...... but also remember to buy, when possible!! I think having the physical artifact in possession is much more rewarding for the listener as well.

I think having the physical artifact in possession is much more rewarding for the listener as well. I know it's rewarding, I have bought in my lifetime... maybe 2 CDs myself? A Gyroscope album (Breed Obsession) I couldn't get on the net and YEARS ago a $5 single "Unfaithful" by Rhianna. 3 CDs a month over here is $60AUD (they're usually $20AUD each), AND that $20AUD oer CD PLUS postage from mail order sites etc.? Ridiculous amounts of money. I know a lot of work goes into CDs and people have to be paid etc. I can't eveen spend that much on credit, let alone some CD I'm just gunna rip to the computer and put on my iPod. I'd lvoe to show my support to the hard work that goes into that CD, but I don't have an income, what I spend is very slowly replaced by random money given to me by my Gran and sometimes my mum. The $20 I can spend on a CD could ALSO be spent on clothing (with my shopping I could get two bags of clothes, or around 4 shirts), shoes, food, going out with friends, make up, a present for mum or dad, or unused so as to help mum with her hand operation, my braces, my brother's orthodontic work, my glasses, my sister's glasses, school uniforms (expensive shit here!), computer repairs, and bills. Right now I'm not sure it'll EVER be possible for me to buy more than one CD every 1-2 years.

At the risk of sounding like a complete dumbass, does anyone know how safe utorrent is in terms of viruses and shit?
