My friends and I LARP whenever we get together, and we could use these dolls to help out with that. We talked about getting some and doing a photo blog of them too. And this may or may not sound weird, but some of those male dolls are very sexy.

 Re: Ball-Jointed Dolls
THIS is one of my favorites. Alas, I don't own a BJD yet, but I'm thinking about one of these.

I also forgot to post this in my OP, but for those of you who are unfamiliar with BJDs and the community surrounding it, here'sanother excellent resource. You can also find ads for people who make BJD clothes, wigs, BJD makeup artists, as well as people who sell the dolls themselves. If you're new to BJDs, many collectors and enthusiasts will tell you that this is one of the best places to start.

Other favourites include: Anything sculpted by Gentaro Araki*, especially Unoa. I'm not keen on the Chibi Unoa since I hate child like dolls. I was a fan of the Unoss Araki-sama sculpted for Volks a while back. She had a much more mature mody than the SD10 that Volks sold at that time. *Yes, he was a hentai/Manga artist. Some people seem to think that should reflect badly on his dolls, but a great sculptor is a great sculptor. Soom:Beryl, Sard and Chrom(all easily go for abour 3X their original price on the secondhand market) I'm hoping they have something similar to this next Spring. If you're new to BJDs, many collectors and enthusiasts will tell you that this is one of the best places to start. I'm actually not too fond of what the admins at DOA think constitutes a 'real' BJD. Often they will include one doll from a line while discluding another for their own reasons(it's a privately owned board, they are allowed to make up weird rules regardless of reality). DOA is a great resource, but I take everything the people say on there with a tableful of salt. I also don't like that a majority of the collectors these days think that they can tell people that DIY was never a part of doll collecting when back in 2000 the majority of collectors got dolls in kits* and made a lot of their doll's clothing and accessories themselves. That is what drew me to BJDs, the DIY part of it. Sadly, it's dwindling as much there as it is in the Goth culture. /rant *The first SDs by Volks did not come with hooks in the hands. People used to share tutorials on how to install the hooks on their blogs.

I didn't say that DoA was the end-all of BJD resources, but that was one of my first resources upon coming into the community. It's a springboard for the curious, but I encourage people to do their own research outside of DoA. And there is still that element of DIY in the BJD community. To the best of my knowledge you can still get kits, but there are a good many people I know in the community who do their own faceups, make their own clothes and wigs, etc. Pretty much the only stuff they buy pre-made are the dolls themselves and the eyes.

Yeah, there are some of us still doing it all ourselves. Just watching the community grow over the last decade is interesting, though. I mostly lurk on DOA. I like the other DIYers, but I laugh at some of the threads('Does your dolly have a soul?' LOL) I don't remember seeing so many threads like that in DOA's early years. I think it's because back in the day most of the us were at lewast in our 20s. Now there are kids as young as 12-13 on the forum, which is weird. Another great site is Resinality. If you sculpt or want to learn how to sculpt your own doll you might want to hop over to The Joint.

 Re: Ball-Jointed Dolls
I have an Iplehouse Tania on the way, actually. I should have her in my hands next month at the latest.
