Post Suggestions for new bands/albums to try out?
So, I'd say I've listened to a decent amount of bands by now. However, by this point I'm starting to run out of bands to listen to. Came to make a topic if anyone could please provide suggestions for bands I should try listening to. I'll make three categories for bands I liked. Great, Good and Bad. Great would mean the band is among my favorites while good is average to above average. Bad would mean I pretty much don't like the band. Forgive me if this is a huge post to read.

Great:
------------
I'll start off with my top 5. Then bands I like a lot in no particular order afterward.

Bauhaus(Favorite band):Pretty much like every single album by them with the exception of Go Away White. Which amazingly, I didn't like one song on. Though, I can understand why. Bauhaus really did change their style. Favorite song is Silent Hedges from The Sky's Gone Out. Second favorite is Double Dare from In the Flat Field. However, overall my favorite album by Bauhaus is Mask. Ultimately, there are only a handful of songs I don't like by Bauhaus. I greatly enjoy almost every single song by them.

The Sisters Of Mercy(Second favorite band):Love them up until Vision thing. Don't like anything on Vision Thing or Some Girls Wander by Mistake though. Favorite song by them is Black Planet. Followed by Lucretia my Reflection.

Specimen(Third favorite band):Really great band once again. Can't really say anything too bad in terms of the music. Favorite songs would be Returning From a Journey, then a tie between The Beauty of Poison and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

The Damned(Fourth favorite band):This band really impressed me. I've only listened to Phantasmagoria by them, but it's easily one of my favorite albums of the whole Gothic Rock genre. Dave's vocals are great and the music in the songs are no exception either. Perhaps, I should rank them above Specimen or not, but either way they still are definitely in top 4. Favorite song is Street of Dreams followed by There'll Come a Day. Like almost every single song on Phantasmagoria. Should I try any of their other albums?

Alien Sex Fiend(Fifth favorite band):Quite a unique band and a crazy one at that. Music is really different from other bands of the genre. Listened to many songs by them and enjoyed a lot of songs by A.S.F. However, some favorites would be:I Walk the Line, E.S.T. Trip to the Moon, Inferno, Ignore the Machine and I'm Doing Time in a Maximum Security Twilight Home. Still have a lot of listening to do though. Haven't listened to all of A.S.F.'s songs yet.

Top 5 over. Other great bands I like a lot in no order:

45 Grave:Not too much of a Deathrocker myself, but this is a excellent band. Really like their music style. However, the lyrics are a bit on the weak side in some songs, but still quite good. Favorite songs would probably be Insurance from God followed by School's Out.

Siouxsie and the Banshees:Only listened to the album Juju, but it's one of my favorite albums. Spellbound is definitely one of my favorite songs of the whole genre. However, a few songs or so on the album were really weak. Which dragged the album down in a sense. I do definitely want to listen to more albums by them. Any suggestions in regards to that?

Southern Death Cult:Amazingly underrated band in my opinion. Love the songs Moya and Fatman by them. Southern Death Cult's other songs are really good. Think the music and vocals by this band are both great.

Skeletal Family:Vocalist of the band is rather weak, but still decent. However, I love the music style of Skeletal Family. This band quickly became one I really enjoyed. Upon listening to them the first time I immediately liked the band. Only listened to The Singles compilation album by Skeletal Family though.

Good:
-----------
Red Lorry Yellow Lorry:A underrated band in my opinion. Only listened to their first album Talk About the Weather, but it's a pretty good one in my opinion. It has some really strong songs, but is watered down by the majority of the songs being really weak. However, the few gems the album does contain such as Talk About the Weather, Strange Dreams and Feel a Piece are all among my favorite songs of all time. Should I try Red Lorry Yellow Lorry's other albums?

Switchblade Symphony:First goth band I ever listened to. So, this band holds a special place in my heart. Still remember the first song I ever got into by them was Gutter Glitter from Serpentine Gallery. However, that is the only album I have listened to by Switchblade Symphony. I haven't listened too much to the other songs on the album, but if I did this band would probably be in the Great category.

The Cure:Only listened to Disintegration by The Cure, but it's a good album overall. There's a few songs I don't care for on the album, but I do love a few songs on it. Such as Fascination Street, Homesick and Prayers For Rain. Still, a really good band. Ultimately though, just barely misses the mark to make it into Great category for me.

U.K. Decay:Very mixed opinion on this band. I only like a few songs overall by them, but the songs I like by U.K. Decay are excellent. Favorite song by them is Testament easily. However, other good songs are Dresden and Rising From the Dead. Didn't like their first album For Madmen Only much though.

Kommunity FK:Found their first album to be terrible. Didn't really like one song on it.(Sue me) However, Close One Sad Eye the second album by Kommunity FK really impressed me. Something Inside Me Has Died is one of the greatest songs I have ever listened to. The rest of the album is pretty good too. Only one or two weak songs of the whole album.

Joy Division:Only recently gave Joy Division a listen. Got both Closer and Unknown Pleasures. So far my opinion is quite mixed of them. I do like the band, but I have to be in certain moods to listen to them. Also, I vastly find myself preferring Closer compared to Unknown Pleasures. Haven't listened to them a lot, but I'll probably like them more if I do. Just gotta listen to them more probably.

Sex Gang Children:I've only listened very little to Sex Gang Children. Actually, only one song. Being Sebastiane. I really liked the song. However, not really sure where to go from there. If anyone can give me suggestions regarding this band it would be greatly appreciated.

Bad:
----------
Christian Death:I can already see the angry mobs with their pitchforks and torches waiting to kill me. However, hear me out please. The only album I really enjoyed by Christian Death was Only Theatre of Pain. The song Romeo's Distress is easily my favorite song by Christian Death. Think it's probably one of the best songs ever, but the rest of the album falls quite flat. Either the lyrics aren't good or the music and lyrics don't work. Usually though, the music is quite good. After Only Theatre of Pain, I found the vocals and music to take a plunge in terms of quality. I did not enjoy any of Christian Death's albums after Only Theatre of Pain. Perhaps, I need to listen to the band and give them a few more chances, but this is probably one of the most overrated bands in my honest opinion.

The Mission U.K:Can't really stand how romantic this band is. It really bothers me. Aside from that, I do like a few songs by them, but only a few. Being Wasteland and Stand By Me. Aside from those two songs...Nothing really. Either the song just puts me to sleep or doesn't have any effect at all. Will never really understand what makes this band so great. I think the music by the band is the strong point, but the vocals are kind of eh.

Fields of the Nephilim:Loved the single Psychonaut, but could not get into any other song by them. I tried all their songs on Dawnrazor and the earlier albums. Don't really know what it is, but the music and vocals fail to captivate me. Could anyone give me song suggestions for this band if I enjoy Psychonaut?

In conclusion, that's it for my list. For those who took the time to read this gigantic post I greatly appreciate it. If anyone can make suggestions off of bands I like/dislike then please do. Any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated.

Wow! Quite a post!

However, I note that in a number of cases, you're saying you've heard one album by the artist concerned. Why not continue exploring their work? With artists like Siouxsie, the Cure and the Damned, there's a vast legacy to explore. And, you may find that something you hear by them may take you in a direction you never expected and open up other horizons. :)

One band I've been led to by a fondness for the above is Inkubus Sukkubus - I'm currently exploring their material myself, but I think that given the bands you list as "likes", you may enjoy listening to them.

Inkubus Sukkubus is one of my favorite bands. Have you heard their songs Prince of Shadows or Enchantment yet?

Thanks for the responses Minnie and Midieval Fantasy. I've been trying out more albums by bands I like lately. Tried out Tinderbox by Siouxsie and the Banshees and another album by them known as Hyaena. So far, both are quite good. I love the song Cities in Dust from Tinderbox. Now one of my favorite songs. As for Inkubus Sukkubus I have not yet tried them.

Figure I'll give them a try next. Since I've heard a lot of positive things regarding that band. Aside from that, guess I'll give The Damned more of a try by listening to their other albums.

You're welcome, sweetie!

"Cities in Dust" is nearly everyone's favourite! I hope you enjoy Inkubus Sukkubus; Midi has absolutely great taste, as I'm discovering!

I admit, it was mostly the Damned I had in mind when I suggested listening to other albums by the same artists. They've covered an awful lot of ground in nearly 35 years of existence, and while they had a period when they were closely associated (though never actually a part of) the goth culture, they're also associated with many other musical styles to which they always brought a gothic (Captain?) sensibility. It should always be remembered that they, not the Sex Pistols, were the vanguard of punk in 1976, and - to reiterate something I said in one of my earliest posts - Dave Vanian was emulating the vampire look even then.

Hmmm you really should listen to Pornography thats their most heavy goth album before and get the single "Burn" from the crow soundtrack. But i agree with most of your top 5...although i would have Sisters of Mercy at number one.

Try Clan of Xymox

I'm going to have to listen to Clan of Xymox, now. All I normally see is people recommending crap where Anka sings and I hate her vocals(and the singer for Cocteau Twins, bleh)! If they have an album where she doesn't sing(or only on backup) then I'll definitely have to become a convert.

You might like The Cramps. There's not much I can write about them, but there's a feeling on The Cramps stuff up to A Date With Elvis that I don't get off anything else. It's funny and sexy, like one of those 50s surf/zombie crossover films.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. Been listening to Clan of Xymox, The Cramps and Inkubus Sukkubus. Haven't listened enough to form an opinion yet, but so far all three bands are quite good. However, I still need more time to form a final opinion.

And this is what not keeping your ear to the ground can do.
