Re: It's Back! Pet Peeves Returns!!!
rude people are just annoying in general.
My pet Peeve : I just spent a little while on myspace looking at some 'goth' profiles. That is the profiles of some people who were claiming to be goth...not a single Gothic artist was named and they had no gothic music on their page. It was highly annoying and saddening to witness.
It also amazed me how many of them looked Goth (the hair, makeup, clothes, etc...) and claimed to be pagan and goth yet they're profiles were all about bashing christianity and filled with modern rock and nu-metal music....
*sigh*...

Badge-goths. Not mallgoths; at least there's hope for them.

That's the truth! When I found out I was moving back to NC, I was browsing Myspace for Goths in my old hometown. I found a few supposedly Goths and messaged them. Now, I was not coming on to anyone. All I said was " hello, I am a native of X and I look forward to moving back to my old haunts. It's great to see some fellow goths in town. Do you have any suggestions on goth-oriented events in the area?" I did not ask for personal info or suggest that we ever meet in person. For most of them I didn't even do it from my personal profile, but from the ezine page, and invited them to check the website out. Not ONE replied. I checked one of their profiles the next day, and they had REMOVED all mention of Goth whatsoever, virtually re-creating their profile! These were not kids! (I would not have messaged one anyway.) I mean cripes, why in world not just say " Hey, I don't know of anything. Or try such and such night in Charlotte, good luck with the move", and then block me if I said anything inappropriate? Seems like some serious poser-ism.

Seems like some serious poser-ism. Agreed. That was very rude and childish of them. I cannot stand people like that...and to change their profile. Oh well, maybe it was for the better that they stopped saying they were Goth so that real Goths can actually be found.

Maybe a sappy teen spoof/comedy about vampires in a very unclassy and saddening way. I am sorry, but if the main character, who is suppose to be a vampire, sparkles, then I do not see that as scary. Wait nevermind. It is scary as hell. Sparkling vampires- things only a goth's worse nightmare can dream up...or S. M.

*sigh*... Yeah... There were a handful of these type of people on the Black/African-American Goth group on Myspace that I frequent. Mainly high schoolers.

By badge-goths do you mean people who go around dressing the part and wearing a lot of badges, but don't listen to the music? I don't really see how that's a smart move on their part. It's literally suicide if they run into anyone who actually knows the music and questions them. Although, it's suicide for mall-goths to dress the part, but not know what the sub-culture is already. Just that the Badge-Goths are just literally asking for it. This saddens me though. Since, I plan to dress most like the trad goth and wear a lot of badges. However, I actually know/like all the bands for the badges I plan to get. Bands I don't enjoy I won't get/wear the badges for. Just kind of sucks. Since it reflects badly upon those who do wear the badges and try to promote their favorite bands.

Re: It's Back! Pet Peeves Returns!!!
It just reflects badly on actual goths who like the music. I think this is a big reason why I do not care to met Goths IRL, because I do not want to run the risk of meeting them and striking up a conversation about bands (which WILL happen) and they say that Mariyln Manson is a goth god.
I know I went into a goth chatroom one night (only 1 other person was in there) and all he could do was talk about the basic metal and industrial names like MM NIN, and a few others who I forget. Really stupid and extremely annoying. He knew not one goth band. when I started mentioning REAL goth bands, he left the chat room. Kinda funny actually.

Agreed. That was very rude and childish of them. I cannot stand people like that...and to change their profile. Oh well, maybe it was for the better that they stopped saying they were Goth so that real Goths can actually be found.[/quote] What I think is going in in cases like this is that people are claiming to be "goth" for the shock value or just attention, and when you are in an area where there are very few, they can pull it off, because the odds are against them ever running into anyone with a genuine connection to the culture. So when there is suddenly a chance that they will encounter someone, they flee. But changing an entire profile was truly a new height. Ever see the movie "SLC Punk"? Great flick. One of my favorite quotes is when Stevo says something like "It's sort of hard to have a scene when there are only two of you!" I felt like that for years when I came home to visit the NC piedmont area!
