 Re: Favourite Vampire Songs
Dark Lover (Love Song to a Vampire) by Tempest, apparently co-written by Mercedes Lackey, is one I'm rather fond of, though I'm not sure it would rank as my favorite.

Both my favorite bands. I knew there was a reason I keep saying how awesome you two are... Not exactly goth, this one, but any song that feels right while driving aimlessly at 3am on the back roads is at least a kissing cousin to our beloved scene. Pet Shop Boys - Vampires

In addition, there's "Vampires", from their album "Ztraceni v Karpatech" ("Lost in the Carpathians"), which also features "Elizabeth" (whether that counts as a "vampire" song depends on your take on the legend of Elizabeth Bathory), and their 2005 "Vampire Songs" album - and that's just the material I'm aware of.

 Re: Favourite Vampire Songs
Bauhaus - Bela Lugosi's Dead, because this song always makes me visualize a grand, but seemingly abandoned mansion with a coffin lying ominously in the master bedroom.
My Dying Bride - The Blue Lotus, because it is a perfect example of how they lure you in then tear out your throat when you're least expecting it.
45 Grave - Riboflavin, because it'll cheer me up no matter how crappy of a day I was having.
My Dying Bride has a few more songs that I think are inspired by vampirism, but aren't necessarily about vampires. It is more metaphorical. Here's an example:
Black Heart Romance - gives a victorian vibe to me; I think vampirism comes into play as a metaphor for how some people are incredibly manipulative, and only want to use you for their gain.

Pet Shop Boys - VampiresNothing wrong with Pet Shop Boys! Sgath, I watched that Xii. Stoleti video and it is gorgeous! There's something about Slavic languages that instantly catch my attention and seem to caress my aural senses. There were a lot of guys that had those accents that would come into CVS when I worked there and it was beautiful to hear them converse with each other. Some of them really hated Germans, though.

Some of them were surprised that I didn't ask if they were German because apparently most Americans can't tell the difference. I have a decent ear for accents.

In addition to what's been mentioned already; Vampires, Vampire Woodoo, Vampire Song, and Nosferatu is Dead come to mind. Wolfmammy wrote: Some of them really hated Germans, though. Yea, you could say that again. Before the war, a lot of the countries to the south and east of Germany had Germanic ethnic populations. They were in many countries treated very poorly. Discriminatory practices, violence, all kinds of nasty things. They looked at Germanic people & dealt with them the way some countries over there viewed Gypsies. The poor treatment of German ethnic people outside of Germany helped the Nazis rise to power, because people in Germany were very upset with it. It was these discriminatory practices that gave the Nazis the excuse to middle in the affairs of the region, and it was eventually these abuses that the Nazis used as an excuse to invade Poland. When the Nazis rolled into towns & cities in eastern Europe, the Germanic populations would rush out to meet them, cheering and giving them a hero's welcome. With the abuses in fresh memory, most of these people had at one point or another joined the Nazi party and became major supporters. The short term Nazi plan was to expand to incorporate all the places with large Germanic populations to make a German nation-state, for the ethnic groups so they wouldn't have to deal with abuses again [this doesn't mean the intentions were strictly humanitarian, the long term plan was conquest & revenge, plain and simple]. But then, they lost the war. In what is today the Czeck Republic the non-Germanic people there were very mad at the Germans because of the Nazis, and wanted revenge. The angry non-Germanic townsfolk started raping & pillaging German families, especially in the more rural parts of the country. Houses were burned, valuables were looted, it was quite chaotic. Then the government [if you could call it that in this state of chaos immediately following the war] started detaining Germanic people and forcing them to do hard labor, they became basically slaves with very little political or legal power, little property, Basically, they were DP's in every sense of the word. Then after that the Czeck's found all the Germanic people in their country that they could find, and forced them into ghettos so they could be processed. The term ghetto is somewhat misleading in this context because often it was more of a fenced in area outside without shelter or any kind of facilities. Families were given a very short list of things of things they could bring, only if they could carry it, and then were forced into these processing centers. Everything they left behind was stolen, there was no compensation. If your family had peacefully lived on the same farm in the Czeck republic for hundreds of years, you lost it all. There was lots of sickness from exposure, hunger; it was not a pleasant experience. These DP's were then forced onto trains and shipped to either Germany or Austria, and were not allowed to return. I had cousins in the Czeck Republic that had to go through all of this, this was after they had lost 7 of their children to the war, and then as they were settling in eastern Germany to try to make a new life for themselves the iron curtain came down, and well everyone knows that part of the story.

 Re: Favourite Vampire Songs
Geez, that's definitely something I'd never heard of in any books and heard mention of on any program. What a horrible mess it must've been over there for a while. No wonder so many people came to America.
