I'm gonna do some reviews of Portland, OR Clubs...Here's my first review.

Dementia @ The Noir
203 SE Grand Ave
Portland OR 97214
event day: Every Saturday
cover charge: $3
venue type: Bar/Dance Floor/Lounge
genres of music played: Darkwave/80's/Industrial
age range: 21+

The Dementia certainly does well on the ambience factor. A decending staircase into a candel-lit lounge with crappy paintings of death-dolls on the walls sets the mood. Discoballs refract red tracklighting in the bar and dance areas, adding a sense of space to this small and cramped area...the music is certainly the best part--spooky, dancible and accessible, a good mix of darkwave-techno, industrial and 80's...the guest dj's are hit and miss when it comes to their dj skills...but DJ Non and his crew do a fine job sinking those cd's. The ales and bar drinks are reasonably priced, and if your low on funds, they offer $1 pints of Pabst. The goth-dresscode is embraced by all. So the gawkers are either non-existent or well-camouflaged.

So my gripes with the place is the size of the dance area, the crappy art on the walls, and the air of animosity towards newcomers (I also appreciate being an elitist bastard but one should usually wait 'til a person says something stupid before one chastizes her.) Luckily, I did meet a couple of lovely ladies who suggested going to The Hive on Sundays because people are friendlier there. The only other thing that sucked was there seemed to be a contingent of bearded skirt-wearing fat-boys who weren't pulling off the androgeny thing that well. Better to go in a group than by yourself because it'll be hard to make new friends here.

rating: (3.0 out of 5.0)

recommended for cheap booze, good music and no alternative-gawkers. Not recommended for overtly sensitive newbies and people wanting to show off their cute outfits...no one will see them in the the dark, anyway.

More reviews to come.

I could have sworn I already did this, but apparently not, oh well :P

Dominion
Address, City, State, Country: Dublin, Ireland (map provided on site)
event day: Saturday from 10 til 2.30
cover charge: Free
venue type: Bar/Dancefloor
genres of music played: Goth rock/EBM/Industrial
age range: 18+

Well Dominion is first off, a very small venue, it does however never seem to get so packed it becomes uncomfortable, just know if your not in before 12, your probably not going to sit down all night.
Regarding the music, it starts out mainly Goth rock with a couple of odd choices thrown in. After midnight it goes totally electronic, and it seems most of the patrons prefer that type as the crowd only really start turning up after 12, before that it is pretty empty. Normally thats the time I leave as its not my fave kind of music.
They also occasionally have bands perform, usually local ones but sometimes tribute bands like "The Sisters of Murphy" play, due to the small size of the place when bands do play, its on the dance floor, which can make the rest of the place feel overly packed.
I've had quite a few enjoyable nights in there.
Its the only goth option in Dublin, if not for all of the Republic of Ireland at this stage

rating: I'll give it a 3 out of 5,
losing points mainly due to the sudden shift in music towards a type I don't really like that much, but I'm sure you would enjoy it more if you liked that kind of thing,
and because its so empty when they play the music I do like.

Name of Goth Club - QXT's
Address, City, State, Country: 248 Mulberry St
Newark, NJ 07102 USA

http://www.qxts-nj.com/
event day: EVERY friday & saturday.
cover charge: $10 ($2 off with flyer from site ) - FREE for ladies over 21 before 11pm
venue type: club
genres of music played: i'm terrible with "categories" - they have 3 rooms playing ranges of music: from billy idol to she wants revenge to combichrist
age range: 18-40 (club is 18 & over ) - but middle ground on the age thing is about mid to late 20's
your written review: I usually go on fridays as i work saturdays. friday nite is "80's night" on the main floor - and they mix in a lot of old & new new wave/alternative, etc. - usually pretty crowded by 11:30pm. The other two rooms: "Area 51" - playing stuff like combichrist, vnv - plays really good stuff - and the people dancing there are very serious about their dancing! can't say much about "The Crypt" - hardly spend any time in that room.

the prices for drinks/beer are reasonable...the bartenders are great - they always remember what you drink - and get to everyone asap. everyone at the club (patrons ) seem friendly enough - except the silly "outsiders" that seem to sneak in since they heard it was 80's night - but hardly ever a situation in the place. they sometimes do "theme nights" like masquerades, etc. overall a fun place to go - even by yourself! (which i almost always do! )
rating: i give it a 5 - since i have nowhere else to go anyway! but it is a very fun place

Not sure if this was meant to be directed to one of our users, but a PM direct to them might be more effective.

Otherwise, might I suggest you peruse through the International Goth Club Listing to find something near you. I'm not sure how often it gets updated anymore, but when I was still a "club kid" the were pretty good about it.

CLUB: Queen Mother
VENUE: Medusa Lounge
3211 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90057 (a little west of downtown and north of Koreatown)
TIME: First Sunday of the month, 10 pm-2 am (doors open 9 pm)
COVER: $5
DRINKS: ranged from $9-15 for wine, $6-7 for 12-16 oz beer: cocktails $12 (tasty but weak)
AGE RANGE: 18+ (I saw people ranging from their 20's to around 50 ??)
GoogleMap

The place is drop-dead gorgeous. It was originally the German bar/restaurant Lowenbrau Keller (built in 1967) but then changed ownership in 2007. A German movie set designer (George Eder) who had worked with Billy Wilder (writer, director, producer - died in 2002) had built the place and decorated it with Bavarian decor - wrought-iron chandeliers, vaulted ceilings, stained glass windows, mounted animal heads, and gargoyles. The chandelier you see on the Medusa Lounge webpage was from the set of Gone with the Wind (!) The place was not too big - about the size of a two-bedroom house - and had a cozy feel to it, with plenty of cushiony chairs, sofas, and drink tables. Both the front room and the dance room had bars.

The dance floor was in a back room - enough room for about 25-30 people to dance (somewhat crowded, that is - generally I saw about 15 people dancing). There were a couple of small screens above the DJ station that showed black and white film snippets including old airplanes, Greek ruins, children playing, bacteria dividing (yes, you read that right), and just scratched-and-stained film. That room had no other decoration except for a large Greek statue of a seated woman. Before the music started, a couple of guys were running around hanging white netting from the chandeliers (the better to catch the black lights) and putting plastic skulls on the coffee tables.

The DJ played a mix of 80's new wave/80's Goth - the dance floor filled up when they put on the Chameleons, followed by Sex Gang Children, for example. They also have guest bands playing (different types of indie), and giveaways.

Everyone was very nice - the door guy, the hostess, the bartenders. When the DJ first got there, she bounced up to me, gave me a hearty handshake and introduced herself. Later when I asked her about a couple of the songs, she asked if I was having a good time "It's great to be appreciated!" - this is a relatively new club and they're trying to get things going. I went by myself and was comfortable doing so. The crowd was varied - a few Victorian (I was one), some fishnet-clad, buckles, fetish, band T-shirts, leather, one guy with a deathhawk, a little of everything.

I left at midnight because I have to get up for work. The door guy said "What, you're leaving already?"

The whole thing felt like a comfy house party. Not pretentious in the least, just people getting together to dance, drink, hear some good music and just chill.

I will definitely go back.

Rating: 4.5/5 (only downgrading for the expensive drinks - but was happy with everything else so I'm more than happy to splurge a bit)

I'll throw my hat in!

+Name of Goth Club: Black Sunday at the Underground
+Address: 110 N. Nevada Ave., Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
+Event day: Every Sunday!
+Cover charge: 21+ is free, 18-20 is $5
+Venue type: Two story crematorium with two ouside smoking pations, one on ground level, the other on the second floor
+Genres of music played: A little bit of everything, the DJs are very open to requests but one Sunday a month is designated 80s night
+Age range: 18+

Located in an old crematorium, Black Sunday is the longest running Goth night in Colorado. The crowd is tightly knit but always welcoming of new comers, dress ranges from full cyber/fetish to jeans and a t-shirt. Medium crowd, always room to lounge or dance.

The bar is located on the ground floor and serves pricey drinks that aren't as strong as they should be, bar tenders can be a little rude and turnover seems to be pretty high. There are two other bars on that floor but because Sunday tends to draw a smaller crowd they're usually not open unless there's a fetish event.

The dance floor is actually quite small and is overlooked by a catwalk. There always seems to be enough room to maneuver and do your own thing. My only major issue is that the floor is located directly below the DJ booth and they just love their fog machines. Huffing in cotton candy scented chemicals is just not for everyone.

They used to lock you in the cremation oven if you asked nicely but I guess a few too many people flipped out.

Rating: 3 out of 5, the crowd really carries it

Hi guys,

I really don't know if any of you can help me out, but the thing is I am moving to Austria to a small village in the south called Gussing and I was wondering if is there any goth club in the area. I know that in Graz, there are some but it is a bit far away.

Unless I find anything to do I will die of boredom.

Waiting for your reply and help

Cheers

I do not know of any actual clubs that would let ins omeone so young, due to the drinking and such, but i do know in Jacksonville Fl, there are some 'goth event nights' that we have which are age specific. I could not go to any because i was to old- the cut off for these events here was 18 (and one 1 exstended to the age of 21).

If you cannot find any clubs, maybe you can look into events or even start your own (as in own event - goths getting together to see a movie or hang out somewhere listening to the music, etc..) and put the word out!

Another one in Miami, The Kitchen, isn't really all that, at least not anymore (I've heard it was once really good...) Its at Soho lounge, which is in the Art and design district of miami. Theres a bunch of rooms, upstairs plays indie and retro, downstairs has a hip hop room, a retro room, and the industrial/synthpop room. I was mostly in the latter mentioned room, and the music isnt very impressive, and its its the same songs every night, and frequently the songs are repeated 3 or 4 times a night... The look is very bland (black walls with red and black couches along the walls that arent very comfortable, and are actually just covered with cheap material, and theres no light in the room apart from a strobelight that's subdued by a dark blue film to make it 'darker'. Not much dancing space, though I suppose its good if you aren't a very good dancer... you can always go torward the back where theres no light whatsoever and its not likely that anyone will see you... As I said, its not very impressive, though there were some good times there :) They just upped the cover to $9, which is waayyy to expensive IMO for such a mediocre place...

I used to go to the Kitchen back in the day, when it was actually decent. But by about 2004 it had really hit rock bottom, where it has stayed. For years friends and I tried in vain to get the Kitchen Dj's to play new Goth along with classics, and they refused. Then they used to whine that "Goths don't come out anymore". I was physically threatened by little Kitchenheads when I dared praise another club that actually played Goth requests. (Not for the last time, either.)
A number of Miami promoters have said things like "Goths: even if we don't play your kind of music, come out and 'support the scene'." My reply was that if they wanted my patronage, they could play my requests along with all the Rivet requests they spin. And it's not even good Industrial. Like you say, it's the same old stuff endlessly. Even friends of the DJ's admitted that it was exceptional if the Kitchen introduced one new song per year.
Judging from posts on Sofla lists as recent as last fall, nothing has changed in Miami. The Kitchen has always coasted on it's reputation from the mid-late '90s. But for years it's been nothing but a doddering corpse that doesn't realize it's dead.
