I thought that some of the bad effects come from dehydration. Or maybe it's that you should drink plenty of water the same night. As far as mixing wine: I tried adding wine to egg nog when I didn't see where the brandy was located. I decided not to drink the result because it looked like egg drop soup.

my favorite.....
dirty martini bloody mary ice wine shochu(the evolution of sake)
My friend's industrial bar has cocktails named after bands: The SPK and Current 93 happen to be my favorite. The Skinny Puppy one is interesting.

I found myself getting profoundly curious over a Chilean merlot rose... Labelled, "La Isla Negra". Didn't get it, though. It was probably foul.

 Re: What's Your Poison?
somebody hand me my bottle of laudanum.
Absinthe is not bad, especially if served properly, sugar cube, spoon, water and all that. I still go for it's ugly little sister Chartreuse on occasion, but these days, if I am at the bar, a plain old white russian will suffice.

 Re: What's Your Poison?
I like my alcohol to taste like candy.
Which is to say, I go for the sweet stuff. Usually sweet wines. German, Florida ones made with muskadine (I may be misspelling that, but a very sweet grape), ice wines. Also, I've had some very nice Japanese plum wines. Currently at home I have a raspberry chocolate port. It's from a Maryland winery, and Maryland wineries aren't known for, like, anything, but I figured, 'Well, I like port, I like chocolate, and I like raspberries. Might as well give it a try!'
I absolutely cannot drink beer at all. Ever since a rather ill-fated camping trip where I made the mistake of drinking beer and moonshine in the same night, even a small amount of beer can make me horribly ill. While I'm sure it was the moonshine, not the beer, memory is a strange thing.
I used to drink a lot of hard ciders. This was a habit I picked up in the Mediterranean while barhopping. While the others were drinking beer (this was before it made me ill, but I still didn't care for it) I drank ciders. I was devastated when I returned to the States and learned that hard cider is not served at every bar in existence in this country they way it is in the Med.

 Re: What's Your Poison?
Yesterday, I tasted the best bourbon--and maybe one of the best whiskies period--I've ever had:
Eagle Rare
Damn! As complex and long as the finest single malts i've ever had [and I've had an 18 year-old MCCallan and a 15 yr old Lagavulin].
Really recommended. Cheap at just under $50., especially compared to how much single malts are going these days.

 Re: What's Your Poison?
I drink vodka and coke while I'm out (I'm about to switch to vodka and lemonade actually, as the coke makes me feel sick and bloated), but my preferred drink is port and lemonade. But a lot of places charge at least a fiver for that, whereas it costs about £5 to buy a bottle of port from Tesco or Asda lol. People laugh at me, because port is normally either just for Christmas or old ladies, but I love the taste of it Also, because I don't drink too heavily, it doesn't mess me up.

Once every blue moon, we notorious drunks put a drop of Bailey's in our Iced Coffees. That, or O'Reilly's White Chocolate Liqueur we found a small bottle of at World Market (a year ago). P.S. I favor arsenic over cyanide.. Just personal preference.

 Re: What's Your Poison?
How I would love to be able to list a morbid alcoholic beverage (Preferably a lager or pint) like yourselves.
Alas, I am but 16. Or, rather, towards that turning age.
However, I do enjoy spirits, scrumpy and watered plonk. < All of which are rather disgusting drinks for the underage. Not as if we are to have them. And I have only had them but a couple of times.
Gross things, if I do say so myself. However, when my cousin visits from the states, "Monster" and "Rock Star" are great drinks. True, I have seen them but a couple of times here but they are never as good as when they are smuggled past my mum.

 Re: What's Your Poison?
Depends on what kind of poison? To get me drunk is Tequila, to get me drunk and liking the taste would be Jager, Goldshlagger, or Vanilla Vodka mixed with cream and Absolut (which would make a Wild Buffalo) other than that I drink Wine almost nightly.
