Post Do you look your age?
How old are you and do you think you look your age? Do you dress appropriately for your age? How does your age, or the age you look, affect your dress style?

I'm 17, but people tell me I look 12 or 13. Because of this, I stay away from anything too dressy, like heels and pencil skirts. Even for formal events, like a prom, I would go in sneakers (like Converse), creepers, or creeper sneakers. I stick to miniskirts because longer skirts look ridiculous. I stick to t-shirts because anything else that is meant to flatter a chest (I'm an A cup and proud, but even I know that there's just some things not meant for the small boobed girls) makes me look silly. I sort of have an "immature" dress style because of this, but I like it regardless. I look young because I'm petite and I don't wear makeup. I could easily be mistaken for a young child, and this Japanese steakhouse says children 12 and under eat free on Mondays, so I'm going to try that. Anyway...

Here's me. This was taken on Friday for my style blog. I was showing off the headband I had on and, wow. It just looks like a ten year old who just took their mom's headband and they're showing it off. *sigh* I'll love this when I'm older, but for now, it sort of sucks that I have to watch what I wear because I can't wear anything that would look silly for a ten year old to wear or I feel... well, silly. Here's a few other examples of my style.

So, any other 12 year old look-a-likes on here?

Not 12 by any means, but I am 35 and I still get carded for drinks. I dye my hair to cover the gray, but I never wear makeup so I guess I don't look as aged as I should.

Most everyone I know thinks I am in my early to mid 20s, but I think that has more to do with the fact that the majority of my friends are under 30.

I'm sixteen, and a week ago, a twenty something waitress at a Friendly's restaurant asked me if I was enjoying the sixth grade.

Not only was I cringing, but my friends will never let me live it down.

Hi

I'm 33 but I look about 23 (sometimes I can look about 18). I've always looked young and I'm short (5 foot) and petite. My husband is 43 and i hate it when people assume I'm his daughter!.

It hasn't really affected my personal style much- just when I was younger i could'nt get adult clothes or shoes to fit me. It meant that i had to learn to sew to alter am make things.

My style is very grown up I think- pencil skirts, granny shoes and bags etc. and more Clasy Gothic fetish when I go to clubs. I've always been atracted to a 'lady-like' look with a sultry twist- I hope I don't look like I'm playing dress up!

I often have people think I am 5-7 years older than I really am. It's been consistently like that forever, even in grade school I would have people think I was in high school when I was only in middle school. Most the people in my social circle are in their late 30s & up so, maybe that's why it has persisted.

Can't say it influences what I wear. The few girls I know who are my age tend to wear a lot more miniskirts, halters, and strapless tops than I ever do, so I guess you could say I dress older than my age group. I have such problems with strapless tops not staying on right, downside to not having a lot of curves is certain things just don't seem to fit right. So I stick to stuff I know fits me well.

I am 23 and I often get mistaken to be anywhere from 17-25, though in all reality most people say 18 and only one erson has ever thought i looked older than I am. As for what I think, I think I look my age. I do not use any skin creams or wrinkle reducers, nor do I think I still have that youthfulness that seems to pour out of teenagers. More often than not I feel MUCH older than I am, but I do not believe I look as old as I feel.

Sgath- to downside to me having a lot of curves is for the same reason. Even when i was relatively skinny (before kids) i still had a bunch of curves and it kept me from wearing much of the things I would have liked to.

I turned eighteen about 2-3 months ago. I think I dress my age but i look about sixteen. Except for my eyes. I seem to have very intense eyes, people, especially those not in my family, can't hold my gaze for long.

i don't join in on the trends that are circulating the 13-16 crowd, and i don't wear such large earring as i did before...i'm more into an elegant look lately.

I'm 25 and think I look my age, but I guess I don't because a lot of my customers ask me where I go to high school and tell me I look 16 or 17.

I'm 16 - throughout my life, I've been asked what my job is, what my major is, what college I go to etc.

my favourite kind of conversations is
adult: so where do you go to school?
me: [insert name of town]
adult: oh, I've never heard of that one, what year are you?
me: sophomore
adult: what's your major
me: well, I really enjoy math...

and they walk away thinking I go to some random private college majoring in math...and I haven't lied at all.

I look about the same now as I did when I was a teenager, save for that my hair is no longer as vibrant as it used to be. When I was 14, I was mistaken for being 18-20. Now that I'm approaching 37, I'm mistaken for being in my 20s.

I wouldn't say it's the way I dress, because my peers are similarly fashion-minded. But I haven't put on weight, had a kid, started getting grey, or added a lot of lines on my face yet.

I'm the oldest coot on this thread so far (44) and I am told that I look like I'm in my thirties. Probably because I have a fat round face. pppppppfffffftttttttt
Although there are some crow's feet gathering around my eyes. :( No way can I wear heavy makeup because it actually makes the lines show more instead of less. :?

(forgot to mention that I don't have any gray hair yet - my mom and one sister didn't get any until their 50's)

My relatives tend to live a long time (two grandparents reached their mid-80's and one lived to be 93; my great-uncle and aunt lived into their 80's; my mother's 84 and is still teaching piano; one uncle is 85 and still does consulting work; one aunt just turned 79 and is still running her business). We probably age more slowly.

I have a friend who will be 72 next month and has run 20 marathons between his 62nd birthday and now. He looks like he's in his 50's. He fully intends to run a marathon on his 100th birthday and to live to be 150. That's the way I want to grow old.

I am 19, almost 20, and I have always looked older than I really am. When I was in sixth grade I convinced a friend of mine that I was 14 and not 12 because I was held back a few years. I was tall, not well formed but my face started aging sooner than my body did. Then the air I put out makes people think I am older. I was (and am) calmer and more mature than most girls my age have been.

I'm 37, and definitely don't look, dress, or act my age...LOL. People are in complete shock when they find out the age of my kids! They can believe my step-daughter (who will soon be 11), but they can't comprehend me having a 15 year old son and a daughter who will be 19 in a few weeks! My oily skin is truly paying off...warding away the wrinkles for a while. As for the grays? I've got a great hairdresser who always messes up her computer, so I never pay money to get my hair done! ;)

Like Luna, I've hardly changed at all over the years. Maybe it was the makeup I used or something (cream foundation vs. mineral), but I think I looked older in my late teens to early twenties than I do now.

My theory is you are only as old as you feel, and I don't feel my age at all. I don't feel any different now than I did when I was 19...wait a minute...I take that back. I feel better now than when I was 19 (seeing as I was up nights taking care of a baby back then)!

I'm near 30 but gosh if I don't feel like it. I don't look much different than I did as a teenager *knock on wood* and compared to many of the other people I went to school with, I look like I bathed in the fountain of youth or something. Only thing that is my hair isn;t nearly as thick as it once was. Thankfully I'm not even close to balding or anything *knock on wood again*, but it just isn't as full as it once was.

It's odd but looking at old pictures of my parents, it's weird how old they looked at 30 compared to the rate I'm going. Maybe it's my wacky youthful demeanor and love of cartoons that helps keep me young.
