please don't, i'm already going back and forth with the devs about this, there just plain usless most of the time, for example i explicitly state that i used the net-test utilite and it all checked out. (the net test utility checks if all the ports for the game are blocked)

yet despite saying that the dev replied with "please use this net test utilitie" in other words ,not bothering to actualy help.

any way i've checked a ton of stuff and at the moment it might be route problem beucase there's a node in new york where the middle columb (using tracert) has a *.

that's the only thing it can be, otherwise i don't know, is there a way to force the route to be differant so it bypasses that node?

I dunno, let me ask a friend of mine. He may know what the problem is. Mind if I forward this post to him?

Alliance or Horde (I know it's an obnoxious question but it's relevant, I promise.)
Both. In my experience Horde were worse because of the exact reason people normally give for them being better :P

The bigger question is... Has anyone heard anything new about the purported Firefly MMO? Damn, If I could be a Reaver captain, ooooooh Baby!

I'm not saying one or the other is better, but there is a marked difference in age groups on either Alliance or Horde. I prefer Horde because I can't abide children (even though I sometimes wish I still was one*

Well when I complained that the alliance was full of lolling retards a few friends told me to try Horde because it attracts more mature role-playing types.

It attracts the kind of role-playing types that spawn the horror threads on SA and ruin IRL games. They are horrible.

This was much more pronounced right up until then introduced the blood elf race. then, when you could play a 'pretty' horde, the floodgates opened, and now both factions are full of immature fools.

I still find Horde preferable, ofcourse, but it was cooler when the kiddies played alliance.

Now that I've completely given up on WoW (I even deleted everything and flushed the authenticator down the toilet, heh heh), I simply cannot believe how much happier I am. The thing was fun at first, then quickly degenerated into another race to climb the social ladder, at least that was my experience.

I will admit a part of me is curious about the Lord of the Rings online game, but not being a "Gamer" (I really hate that term for some reason), I figure it would likely just be another waste of money on my part. Still, I am wondering if it has the feel of Tolkiens world and actual (ie. not just movie, but avid readers of the books) LOTR fans or if its just like WoW with a bunch of internet tough guys and 'LFM 2DPS 3000GS OR GTFO' kind of lingo flinging back and forth.

I play CoX (City of Heroes/City of Villains) fairly regularly, though not obsessively.

Others that I've tried are:
WoW - so little that I can't make an opinion
Final Fantasy XI - confusing game play
Champions Online - They hyped about how much freedom you will have with your character build, and it turned out to be very unimpressive. All builds pretty much blended together.

Most of those I've seen who play are actual Tolkein fans, but that's only in my slice of the world that this is true...

This saddens me as I'm just about to get back on WoW after an extended hiatus from it due to work, school, and my crazed relatives. Ah well, at least I can take solace in the fact that I'll be buddying up with people I know IRL before I actually encounter any strangers on there again. I also have a few screen names to avoid because I know who they are.

I think you're being a bit overjudgemental, friend, don't you? I mean, half of the fun of these things is getting into character and playing as a creature much unlike oneself. I've actually learned with time that the reason I haven't much enjoyed D&D is because I never came up with a solid enough character that I could separate my Self and my character's whims... Perhaps I'm getting too deep into it though, but whatever.

There's a difference between "I play an orc underdog who tries to win respect honourably through martial prowess and co-operation with my 'tribe'" which is what I was told to expect and "I play an orc underdog who tries to win respect honourably through martial prowess and co-operation with my 'tribe' and that makes me a better roleplayer than you. Worship my well-rounded and mature character!" which is what I saw, amidst the normal "you suck, reroll" banter.

I've had great fun in D&D playing a lawful evil character who never lied, WoW doesn't really give much scope for characters outside the WoW mould of "gain levels, kill things, take stuff, repeat" and the playerbase doesn't help much.

Point taken. One just has to take these things in stride, with a handful of salt thrown over the shoulder...

Post Re: MMOs
I have an ongoing on-again off-again relationship with World of Warcraft. Some of my IRL friends fall off the wagon and reactivate their accounts occasionally, and I am compelled to follow until we all get too bored/busy for it and deactivate. Then the next expansion comes along and we get all excited for it again (I so want to play a Goblin. HOW DO YOU LIKE SMALL ANNOYING ENEMIES, ALLIANCE SCUM!?).

My first character was a human mage who reached the giddy heights of level 60 (pre-BC), before my friends and I decided to try Horde and never looked back since. We've been around a good number of servers and met out fair share of morons on both factions, but since we've played Horde pretty much exclusively the memorable ones are on that side.

Ironically we've found RP-PVP realms to have a lesser moron-quotient than regular PVE and RP servers. Maybe it's to do with having to put your money where your mouth is and actually have to fight other players while outside your comfort zone, rather than simply grind your way to raiding level. I've also seen less of the "I am Narutowahnk, part-demon part-mongoose Devil Lord and I power-emote you to death" types on RP-PVP servers.

'sup fellow goon. *hi-five*

I've witnessed my share of roleplaying horrors alliance-side, mostly in the bedrooms of the Goldshire Inn. Level 12 priests innocently visiting their class trainer shouldn't have to put up with that sort of deviant behaviour thrust in their faces.

Along with the aforementioned power-emoters.

er, you prolly want to stay out of the tram tunnel between Stormwind and Ironforge after midnight then....

Ah ha! I was sure there was dodgy stuff going on there as I'd catch flashes of semi-naked characters as I sped by on the tram. That's the only thing I really miss about playing alliance; the tram itself that is, not the perverts skulking in its depths.

Now I play Horde the deeprun tram isn't really on my list of tourist spots. Since I'm on a PVP server I keep meaning to go there and see if I can get some cheap kills. Not to mention those exploration achievements...

GARGH!
