 Re: What makes you cringe?
In the first-listed photo album, there's one guy wearing a torn mesh shirt who also has a brown beard. That is just WRONG. -- Tue Jan 26, 2010 7:51 pm -- centurion wrote: Enjoying pain??? back to the ol' "fetish BDSM crossover" thing again?? No, that scene has whole new levels of cringe.... A bunch of the people who go to those places, such as Bar Sinister in Hollywood, just go so they can say "Whee! I let them tie me up and whip me! Me so naughty!" The place has a "dress code": translation = if you look like a tourist "there to see the 'freaks'" we'll go ahead and let you in if you pay $$$$. No way am I going there.

It's actually red The curse of being Irish, ginger face-pubes. He's a nice guy, but has odd fashion sense. I think he's just operating on the principle of less == more as regards to surface area and cooling ability really.

 Re: What makes you cringe?
Do people still use the word "ginger" to make fun of others? or is that just the term for redheads?
As far as cooling, if he lost the beard that would help.

It's used both ways really. I think he shaved it for halloween and then grew it back again. There are far worse in there than him though.

Oh no, I more mean there are things in there that picked me up with one arm and only managed to beat my legendary escape artist trick by engulfing me in flab. And worse.....

 Re: What makes you cringe?
That sounds like some of the people I've seen at a local science fiction convention. How the heck is it that there are so many of them who are fat? That is frightening.

Nothing irks me more than to be the only one to look nice; especially when the majority doesn't even wear anything "dark natured". I'd say the guys you see in a club, the rough n' tough, rugged guys who looked like they just came from a car garage, who show up wearing some type of black tea shirt and worn blue jeans. Gorgeous gowns, velvet & lace, (romantique goth), outfits being worn adorned with a corset; then no contrast to the face; no makeup effort, that is really obnoxious. I'm with you on the first - I have seen a handful of guys at some of the clubs here who don't dress up at all, although I can't tell if they're bothering anyone otherwise. That lack of special dress surprised the hell out of me, given that this was at a very fancy place that goes in for masquerade parties (Malediction Society) As for the second - I'm going to hire you to make me look perfect, otherwise I'd better not set foot in any club or else you'll rip me apart (I'm joking! ) I do put on makeup (dark red lipstick, not black) but I don't go super-heavy or ornate with the eye makeup (some mascara and purple or green liner). I'm too damned old to be able to look exquisite (in my forties). So There So Sue Me ^.^ See, but that IS making an effort. To dress simple, but still look "nice," is perfectly fine. I highly doubt you resemble any of the awful sites I've seen (not at Mal. haven't been there yet,) at Disko Nekro or Ruin; or worse, Bar Sinister. Albeit, beauty is ageless!

 Re: What makes you cringe?
What you say about Bar Sinister doesn't surprise me, given the reason why many people go there (to be tourists looking at "the freaks"). Ruin? Even at those fancy balls they throw? although at that venue I have seen a handful of guys in street clothes - blue jeans or chinos and plaid shirts. You mean them? I have no idea what's going through their minds. But at that venue I have also seen some VERY fancy dress. Look at Porcelain photo links on this page.

 Re: What makes you cringe?
I found one situation to be quite horrid recently. A girl in my college class was wearing a stained old "Bud Light" tee shirt, black jeans that were about three sizes too small, and had a spiked necklace around her neck, just beneath her coif of stringy unkempt blue-black hair! (nothing wrong with blue-black, but it was oily, dirty and unnattractive). To top this off, she had an enormous marylin manson patch on her bookbag. The site of all of these aspects put together on one human was astonishing, so much so that I physically cringed and made a small gasp when she entered the room. Had any one of these qualities or items been individually placed on a person, they might have gone unnoticed, but together, they were unsightly! Whats more, is that this person was setting a bad example to the people she encountered, lest they mistake her as a "goth". Normally I am not critical of others, I am probably noticing this person's shortcoming as a result of her personality being quite abrasive, loud, and typically unpleasant, as if she should be an overly drunk annoyance at a Nascar convention. Also, my anger stems from the fact that the teacher, and class, considers her and I to be "the goths" of the class. I feel ashamed and enraged to be clumped together with the likes of this girl! In conclusion, this did indeed make me cringe!

What makes me cringe?
Going WAAAYYYYY over the top when it comes to tattoos and other body mods.
2, 3 , even 4 or 5 or thereabouts tasteful and strategically-placed tattos or piercings can be beautiful and sexy.
Then there's Kat von D-types: her hands and forearms look as if she has a serious dermatological disorder.
Granted, she's not a Goth: having dated Nicki Sixx of Motley Crue, she seems more of a metalhead chick. But she's a VERY beautiful woman who has all but DESTROYED her attractiveness by going to lunatic extremes with the tatts.
Makes me want to cry....

 Re: What makes you cringe?
Funny, I'm the complete opposite when it comes to body mods, annwn! I think that Kat Von D is absolutely gorgeous because of being heavily tattooed. She actually has some killer work covering her. What I find unattractive about her is her personality! It looks bad when people are covered with poorly done tattoos, like prison tatts. I'll give you that. There are some rather sad examples of the BM world like the Catman, but then the lunatic fringe is present in every culture.
ETA~ I don't think that body mods(even splitting tongues or peni & getting 'horns') are gross or weird. But trying to become something you're not like some people is just silly. If you're born a person no amount of modification will make you into something else except maybe someone with severe mental issues.

Makes me want to cry.... I would not be the kind of person you would want to hang out with, then, when all of my tattoos and peircings are complete. I plan on a microdermal sleeve (sergically implanted peircings) on one arm and a mythological tattoo sleeve of Pandora's Box on the other. That with all my other tattoo ideas, i plan on having at least 20 peircings and at least 5 tattoos when all is said and done. i am just in the process of saying right now. For some reason this seems to make A LOT of people cringe.
