Funny, I have to wear my mp3 player out in public for the same reason as Lunamoth. Nice to know I'm not the only one. ^_^

I would suggest Red Water(Christmas Mourning) by Type O Negative.

I'll check out that Type O Negative, WolfMammy.

And I totally forgot about the Cocteau Twins. They released some winter/Christmas songs. I don't think it was a holiday oriented album, though.

What you want to check out is this stuff (M'Lord)-

John Jenkins: Consort Music For Viols in Six Parts; Hesperion XX (Jordi Savall, viol and others), Astree. The original and re-issue are quite pricey, available as a download for a much more reasonable price.

Mr. Abel's Fine Airs; Susanne Heinrich viol, Hyperion CDA67628

Lute Music of John Dowland. Though he did write many pieces for dance, he also had a decidedly dark period that produced songs such as Fortune My Foe and others. Ronn Mc Farlane, Nigel North and Paul O'Dette have all recorded volumes of his music, much of which can be previewed as mp3.

Of a lesser dark quality, bit still cool:
French Baroque Harpsichord, Sophie Yates, Chandos. This is a bit hard to take all at once, but certain parts of Pieces de viole: Suite no 5 in C minor are perfect for a small, dark, dimly lit chamber.

The music of the renaissance/early baroque can be quite somber, deep and introspective at times. The sound of viols, lutes and theorbos are like nothing else we have today (except for the viols, lutes and theorbos that we make). It's worth listening to, and you may even swoon at times.

Alwayes, your humble servant.

I would have expected Voltaire to put out a holiday oriented album (unless he already has).

Since much of the music from the Middle Ages was "Jesus oriented", I cross over much of those tunes from my general Medevial/Renaissance playlist to my Christmas playlist.

Here's another one to throw out there: The Creepshow had a two track christmas cd last year, called "Creepy Christmas Classics."

Not very dark or gothy...but I happen to be a fan of TSO (Trans Siberian Orchestra). My husband and I have a standing date every year to go to their concert. They are kinda metal meets classical? I've pulled some of their stuff into my playlists.

Also, I'm a huge fan of Celtic-style music. I guess it is the Irish part of me (I am a quarter Irish...part of the clan O'Neill on my grandmother's side). Not necessarily "dark"...but definitely not mainstream. I have some stuff from Eden's Bridge.

GothicBfly, I think TSO is a great example of darker Holiday music, actually! I like listening to them around Christmas, and yet, it's something the family can enjoy too. :P And I LOVE Celtic-style music as well. I'm half Irish, so I know the feeling. :P Although my addictions are Méav Ní Mhaolchatha and Chloë Agnew of the Celtic Women. Look up "Dulaman" (Meav), "Sí Do Mhaimeo Í (The Wealthy Widow)" (Meav), and "The Sky and the Dawn and the Sun" (Chloe).

The hubby and I are very excited about this year's concert. We scored front row tickets...center stage! Still wondering how I did that...LOL.

You're right...I guess they are darker than I'm thinking. I guess I was just trying to compare to something like the Projekt box. :D

I would love to see TSO do a take on my favorite..."O Come, O Come Emmanuel". Give it the same style of Sarajevo (Carol of the Bells). Would be a good one!

I feel that some Christmas carols have a darker theme or quality than others. For instance, my favourite holiday song is Carol of the Bells, which sounds almost sinister and scary, especially when sung by a choir.

Ding-dong, ding-doooooong!

I love that song, and i fully agree. Whenever i hear it, though, i always end up wanting the read The Bells by Edgar Allan Poe.

I could not find the edit button to add to my las tpost, so here is my new post :

Okay, so i have been downloading some songs, and here are some you may like (none are really goth...but more like metal and hard rock..though some are just...well weird):

Twisted Sister - Heavy Metal Christmas (12 days of christmas) This is a must hear!

Twisted Sister - (all their christmas songs are pretty good)

Wendsday 13 - Buried By Christmas (highly recommended)

NOFX and Bad Religion : A Punk Rock Christmas

Tori Amos - Winter (not exactly christmas...)

Dr. Demento - (He has quite a few, if you look him up. One of which is called A Very Scary Merry Christmas, Haunted Holiday, etc...)

Green Day - Christmas Day

Kind diamond – No Presents for Christmas

MXPX – Christmas Night Of The Zombies

Frickin’ A – Merry Frickin’ Christmas

From First To Last - Christmassacre

Trans Siberian Orchestra and Blackmore’s Night has some nice Christmas songs. That is all I can really think of right now.

I am also going to take some suggestions from this and other sites. Hope i helped a little. My favorite is the Twisted Sisters one so far (heavy metal christmas) and the Wenesday 13 Buried by chirstmas.
