 Bruno
I went to see this with my other half at the weekend, expecting something outrageous, and it was definitely worse than I was expecting! It was funny in places, and damn right shocking throughout. It managed to offend just about everyone - I think almost everything Bruno said was an insult to someone out there. I wasn't really expecting to see a penis filling the cinema screen either, but it was rated 18 here in the UK, so I should have expected something along those lines. I'm interested to see what reactions it generated. My gay friends thought it was hilarious. Anyone here been brave/curious enough to watch it?

 Re: Bruno
Ha, I'll be renting it out of sheer curiousity. I found his previous movie funny in places. The point of these things is to shock/offend, but I just shake my head at the people who come away all huffy with their feathers ruffled. My cousin, actually a born and raised Austrian, found it quite hilarious. Of course his brand of humour is cruder than most, but sometimes we just need to loosen up and, well...laugh. lol

 Re: Bruno
I have been wanting to see this movie, but unfortunately have no money, and no one to go with. But yes, I've heard about the homoerotic nature of it.

 Re: Bruno
I had no interest in Borat and I have none for Bruno. Sorry people, you are on your own for this one.

Offensive films can/will either open minds or close them even further. I will definitely watch it. A penis filled screen may be a little shocking for some folks... LMAO! Society needs to come to grips. It looks hilarious!

I have heard that some people walked out after the first five minutes. Probably best for them, as the film starts as it means to go on... Strangely, there was an older couple watching the film when I went to see it. They weren't old, probably in their 40's, but as the rest of the audience was about my age (and some under 18 too by the looks of it), it was quite a pleasant surprise to see them laughing along just as much as the rest of us.

 Re: Bruno
I thought it was great, not even close to Borat, but still a lot of fun. I've been a fan of Sacha's since his early days on late night TV, some of the things he does and situations he puts himself in....well, he's just seriously brave, and the way he pushes/tricks people into showing their true colours can be brilliant.
My only real problem with the film versions of his 3 characters has been the inclusion of cheap "gross out" gags.

I don't know why that should be so surprising. Sacha Baron Cohen himself is pushing 40. Haven't yet seen the movie, and I'll probably wait for the DVD. I thought Cohen's Borat was screamingly funny. I expect as much from Cohen's Bruno. Watching people who are full of themselves getting pissed awf by Cohen's antics just makes me smile. -- Nephele

 Re: Bruno
We just got back from seeing this and to be honest there weren't enough actually funny moments in the movie to really make it worth seeing. I say if you can just pifer a highlight reel or something off the internet, you'd be better off.
At least in Borat there was some sort of cohesive thought to help move the film along, and even the really outrageous gags were funny as hell. In this movie, it just seems like he was trying too hard to be offensive and really not trying to be funny. And there were a lot of just plain stupid moments throughout. I think I felt my IQ drop about 10 points during the first half hour.
Might be worth a rental since you'd have the ability to skip the really crap parts and go onto the few tidbits of actual comedy, but I wouldn't waste my money.

 Re: Bruno
Very Freudian, but Its been cut: "Cinemagoers in the U.K. will get the chance to see two versions of risque new comedy Bruno - to allow younger fans to enjoy the movie. Sacha Baron Cohen's outrageous new big screen outing, in which he plays a gay Austrian fashionista, was slapped with an 18 certificate by British movie watchdogs due to its adult content. Universal Pictures, the studio behind the film, feared the older certificate could cause a huge cut in revenues - prompting bosses to re-cut the movie so that 15 year olds can also go and see it. The film was also heavily edited for the American market, so that under-17s were allowed to view the footage. The newly re-cut film will be available in Britain from 24 July. And the re-worked Bruno seems to have paid off - the movie topped the U.S. box office last week (ends12Jul09) with takings of $30 million (£20 million)." http://www.imdb.com/news/ni0876302/

~spidey Thanks for your review, Spidey. Seeing as how you enjoyed Borat (as I did), but didn't enjoy Bruno, I'm now getting a sinking feeling that I might be disappointed by this movie. Anyway... Was the gayby cute? -- Nephele

~spidey My hubby & I saw some clips online that made us go . One of which was the weird scene with him and the short, young-looking latin(?) guy. It was disturbing to say the least.
