 Re: Goth/Gothic Quotes
"To clear my thoughts, I drill a hole into my skull"~Atreuy Just kidding! Now, seriously... "I'm ready to meet my maker, whether my maker is ready to meet me is another matter" W.Church hill. (I think it went like that, forgive me if it doesn't) Give me some time. I can't think of any right now. -- Thu Mar 12, 2009 9:58 am -- "Hear The tolling of the bells, iron bells! what a world of solemn thought their melody compels. in the silence of the night, how we shiver with afright. at the melancholy menace of their tone. for every sound that floats, from the rust of their throats, is a groan. and the people, ah the people they that dwell upon the steeple. all alone. and who tolling, tolling, tolling, in that muffled monotone. feel the glory a glory in so rolling on the human heart of stone. they are neither man nor woman, they are neither brute nor human, they are ghouls." Edgar A poe. Bells. Oh, the cliche(sp?).

 Re: Goth/Gothic Quotes
Here's one for the Old School set (it's a groaner), overheard at the club one night:
"Old Goths never die; they just Fade To Grey..."

"Old Goths never die; they just Fade To Grey..." yep, that is a groaner "we don't speak any more of war we don't speak any more of war we don't speak any more" -System of a Down (from their song 'war') "Life is dark, life is sad, all is not well, and most people you meet will try to hurt you." -Voltaire's book "what is goth?" I know it's kind of morbid and depressing, but when you compare it to quotes like "a stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet" it makes an interesting contrast. I have another quote but I don't have it word for word and I can't remember who said/wrote it originally, this is just a approximation. "goth is the enjoyment of the dark and morbid things in life"

 Re: Goth/Gothic Quotes
The following quotes aren't too gothic in and of themselves, but considering the circumstances I think I can get away with posting them here.
Some sources state that these were Edgar Allan Poe's last words, "Lord, help my poor soul."
Another contender... "Nevermore" in answer to a deathbed question, "Would you like to see your friends?"

"I rise to taste the dawn, and find that love alone will shine today." - Ken Wilber. "Do not weep; do not wax indignant. Understand." - Baruch Spinoza "Dreams are illustrations... from the book your soul is writing about you." - Marsha Norman "From my rotting body, flowers shall grow and I am in them and that is eternity." - Edvard Munch "Fair peace becomes men; ferocious anger belongs to beasts." - Ovid "Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it." - Mark Twain "A single rose can be my garden... a single friend, my world." - Leo Buscaglia My usual quote is "buggrit! Monday again!" -LS

 Re: Goth/Gothic Quotes
"-I'm not blessed, or merciful. I'm just me. I've got a job to do, and I do it. Listen: even as we're talking, I'm there for old and young, innocent and guilty, those who die together and those who die alone. I'm in cars and boats and planes; in hospitals and forests and abbatoirs. For some folks death is a release, and for others death is an abomination, a terrible thing. But in the end, I'm there for all of them." -Death from Sandman by Neil Gaiman

Quote: "From my rotting body, flowers shall grow and I am in them and that is eternity." - Edvard Munch Wow! I like that one! I may even steal it for my signature if you don't mind Letalis? To stay on topic... "So this is the way the world ends, so this is the way the world ends, so this is the way the world ends? not with a bang but a whimper.Does anyone know who wrote that? I remember reading it in a poem, but I can't remember the name.

 Re: Goth/Gothic Quotes
From Keat's "Ode on Melancholy": She dwells with Beauty - Beauty that must die; And Joy, whose hand is ever at his lips Bidding adieu; and aching Pleasure nigh, Turning to Poison while the bee-mouth sips: Ay, in the very temple of delight Veiled Melancholy has her sovran shrine...
and another:
This living hand, now warm and capable Of earnest grasping, would, if it were cold And in the icy silence of the tomb, So haunt thy days and chill thy dreaming nights That thou wouldst wish thine own heart dry of blood So in my veins red life might stream again, And thou be conscience-calmed—see here it is— I hold it towards you.
Harhar, he could be so morbid sometimes. Or just observant...

 Re: Goth/Gothic Quotes
Yet each man kills the thing he loves By each let this be heard, Some do it with a bitter look, Some with a flattering word, The coward does it with a kiss, The brave man with a sword!
- Oscar Wilde, The Ballad of Reading Gaol
There's a hole in the world like a great black pit and it's filled with people who are filled with shit and the vermin of the world inhabit it but not for long! They all deserve to die! Tell you why, Mrs. Lovett, tell you why: because in all of the whole human race, Mrs. Lovett, there are two kinds of men and only two. There's the one staying put in his proper place and the one with his foot in the other one's face Look at me, Mrs. Lovett, look at you! No, we all deserve to die! Tell you why, Mrs. Lovett, tell you why: Because the lives of the wicked should be Made brief! For the rest of us, death will be a relief We all deserve to die!
- From Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

 Re: Goth/Gothic Quotes
I don't remember the exact quote, but Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake had a good one (or twelve): "Love hurts. Sometimes it feels good but most days it's just another way to bleed."
