 The Black Iron Prison
This is a bit of writing done by a community of Discordians. It's a booklet about freedom within a self-limited world. http://www.cwyohba.org/noexit/cramulus/ ... l_page.pdf I think many of you might enjoy this. It's not as funny as most Discordian works, but it's got some good advice for dealing with identity, politics, consumer culture, etc.. To quote Lord Omar: "Ye have locked yerselves up in cages of fear--and, behold, do ye now complain that ye lack FREEDOM!" companion website is found here: http://blackironprison.com/

The link is borked, it takes me to the file directory and I couldn't quite guess which file you'd meant to link to.
This board truncates long links sometimes, so it's better to put them inside the URL tags.

 Re: The Black Iron Prison
Thank you. I've always been interested in reading up on Discordian stuff, having checked out Church of the Subgenius as well.

 Re: The Black Iron Prison
It's interesting - Discordia is in a really weird place right now. The Principia Discordia, the primary book of Discordians, is about 50 years old. It's seen a fair amount of circulation. A lot of Discordians get turned on by it and think that it is the Holy Book of Discordia, and they become good Discordians by quoting it and riffing on it and rehashing, remixing, repeating it.
And the other camp, the one that talks about the Black Iron Prison, is getting very tired of the Principia. They think it's a crutch. In Discordia, you're supposed to "Think for yourself, shmuck!", so let's get some new ideas and new projects off the ground.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Principia Discordia. It's like the Tao Te Ching, but with punch lines and psychedelics. But I think that being a Discordian has a lot to do with mental freedom, and it's hard to do that when you're trapped in a 50 year old discussion.
So this new energy in Discordia is producing some really interesting art, thought, pranks, jakes, and mischief. And the Black Iron Prison is one of the components of that.
I'm sure that over here in gothland, you guys know what I'm talking about. It's a drive to separate the movement from its stylistic trappings.

I see what you're saying, yeah, and I respect that. The idea that Discordia could really be a *truly* living religion - one that evolves with its adherants - seems to fit so well with its original principles. To dogmatically adhere to 50 year old writings seems counter to the whole point in the first place.

 Re: The Black Iron Prison
Hah, I remember helping to write this, a long time ago. Reminds me, I still want to rewrite and change my original works that were used.
