PreZ, how hard would it be to recode the links so they appear in a new window as they used to? I keep accidentally surfing myself off the forums.

It's right there next to New Topic and Post Reply and the bottom of the thread.

Pendulum Swing,

Welcome to the Goth.Net forums!

This thread is about the forum upgrades and their effects. It's ment to stay that way. Please head over to the introduction thread and introduce yourself to your fellow boardmembers as a start. If you want to ventilate random thoughts and feelings we have a thoughts and sharing-thread for that. If you want other forum members to know about your band, later on, you can make a thread about it in the user submissions, promos & feedback-section, preferably with a link to a homepage and / or to something you've recorded.

Read the board for a while and get a hang of how it works! Also, before you do anything, read the board rules and make sure you understand them.

Have a nice day!

Kindly,

I upgraded the forums again. As you may have noticed, there was an outage in the mean time.

The upgrade was a minor patch (3.0.0 -> 3.0.1), and there were no MAJOR changes, just bug fixes and such. However one thing they DID apparently change was how the permissions were queried from the database.

I failed to notice this because, having Super Administrator permissions, it does not bother querying the database. But for everyone else, it meant the query was wrong.

I believe this is fixed now, and I will now have to report a bug to phpBB :P

PreZ :)

The bots are a special class of member based on their IP address or user agent. The bots are basically web spiders (google, yahoo, etc) that are indexing the site for their search engine. They have less privileges than users (in fact they are read only users and have no search privileges). But they can be safely ignored - so if you see a bot, it is just indexing, nothing to see here, move along :)

That's creepy. So all our posts are in google and yahoo's search engines now? What's the point of that?

Spidey,

Finally, someone made a phpBB 3.x mod that does this for me. I didn't want to have to do it myself :P

So internal links will open in the same window, and external links in a new window.

Ooooooo! Very, very groovy, PreZ! That's some high tech linking we have going on. (I am more chuffed about the linking action than is normal. I know. I worry too.)

I know it's a minor thing, but it was a bit annoying to have to remember to open links in a new tab.

They were before there were visible bots. It's an open forum, after all. I distinctly remember doing Google searches, before we were upgraded, and coming upon Goth.net forum posts.

Belatedly stating the obvious, the point of having posts searchable by Google would possibly help people who are possibly in search of answers to questions that people may have asked and answered on posts here?

I know that I've searched on Google for stuff and had forum posts on various forums be linked and found the information there to be of help in what I was after.

Post Re: Yet another forums upgrade ...
I just finished another minor forums upgrade. From 3.0.1 to 3.0.4. I also added and updated a mod or two.

As usual, please let me know if you see any bugs or problems cropping up due to these upgrades.

I'm not going to list all the changes, but a bunch of bug fixes mostly it appears. Though I did add RSS feeds to the forums, so you can subscribe to new posts on the whole forums, a specific forum, a specific thread, and such - for those who like the RSS thing :)

From my perspective, it seems the forums are performing faster than normal.

Just patched from 3.0.4 -> 3.0.5.

There didn't seem to be anything that would majorly affect things (this patch has a lot of bugfixes in it), but as per usual, let me know if you see issues with the forums operation.
