 Songs with Sitar
It has to be my all time favourite instrument but I only know of one song that has it, Metallica's whenever I may roam. Does anyone know of any songs that have sitar in them? doesn't matter what genre or how old they are.

The Sitar isn't a Japanese instrument. You might be thinking of the Koto.
Broken Doll, you might try looking up Indian Classical music, if you aren't looking for like rock bands who've used it, etc.

"The Brian Jonestown Massacre" use the sitar quite a bit.
Their also a great band.....though nowhere near as good as they think they are
Also, I'd be surprised if The Beatles didn't, though it's been a while since I've listened to them.

I won't listen to a Sitar unless it only speaks the truth.

There's a lot of sitar in late-60s Beatles music courtesy of George Harrison.

Also might be thinking of shamisen... there are some great shamisen videos on youtube!

Yes, both are used quite a bit in traditional Kabuki music, as well as butoh. If I could buy one, I`d be a happy man, as I`d love to use something other than the synthesized version in my recordings.
Anyhow, if you`re thinking of modern alternative music, some songs that popped into my head:
Nurse With Wound/Faust - Disconnected
Necrophorus - Yoga part 2
Tiamat - Four Leary Biscuits
Amorphis - My Kantele(acoustic version)

 Re: Songs with Sitar
Yes i love sitar too. The band that I would recommend would be The Incredible String Band. They have some of the best sitar i have ever heard in rock music. Currently my favorite albums by them are: The 5000 Spirits or the Layers of the Onion and The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter. They use sitar on close to all of their songs.
I agree with previous comments too. The Beatles have some great sitar. The Brian Jonestown Massacre is also such an amazing band. They probably don't use it as much as the Incredible String Band, but still quite a bit. Ravi Shankar is pretty much the sitar master. Donovan uses sitar sometimes. The Rolling Stones use it sometimes. You may also want to look into the traditional sitar ragas. I worship them.
I am so in love with the sitar that i actually bought one recently. It has some sort of blemish on it so i got it for a significantly reduced price. I'm having a hell of a time trying to learn to play it though. Too bad there aren't any sitar gurus where i live.

 Re: Songs with Sitar
If you can find it, theres a compilation series called "Electric Psychedelic Sitar Headswirlers" that's pretty nice. 60's psych rock again.
