Yes Rossman, yes you can. You're really fun to talk to, so please continue to hang out here.

One day I would truly love to know the answer to this. But I guess it comes back down to some of those endless threads we've already had about people needing to be labelled to feel secure about who they are.
Rossman, yes you can hang out here and not be gothic, we have several such people that do.

Have you heard the fields of the Nephilim Rossman? they are goth flavoured at the very least, when i was at college the metallers there didnt consider themselves allowed to like it, as it was Goth, but some of there tracks were distintly motorheadish, and thrashy. The lyrics were growled.
In the good old days there was much clearer defintions in the imagery within subcultures, metallers were metallers, goths were goths, none of this mansonets being pseudo gothic, the term nu metal didn't seem to be used back then. Things seemed to alter down our way (rural england) a bit with grunge taking of, and some mattelheads liking it,(i rather like that spelling error, reminds me He-man)Then around the time ministry released psalm 69 things really started to get confused. a lot of our local goths and metallers liked it and it was born from the industrial scene. The metlaheads didn't think we were allowed to listen to it as they were sure it had to be metal. (yes in those days the average metal IQwas lower in the UK)
The Nephilim are supposed to be working on new material arent they? they never seem to get anything done when they say they will. I am sure they promised a new album by 2001.

By the by, does anyone know how to say "nu-metal" properly? Or why it's "nu"? Is it said the same as "new-metal"?

From what I understand, "nu" is to "new" as "kewl" is to "cool". It is yet another of those "I'm-intentionally-misspelling-words-and-am-thus-hip" things that seem to go hand in hand with hip hop and American youth's diminishing test scores. I presume that the nu/new label is an attempt to make a claim that Korn, etc., actually have some sort of connection with "old" metal. However, as I don't actually listen to "nu" metal, I may be missing a deeper significance.
